I was visiting my dad in a nursing home when a performer came to sing to the residents. I sat with my dad through the performance and saw him moved by the performance of this song. He had recently lost his wife and my mother and the look of peace and contentment on his face sits with me still. That performer I recognized as an ex police officer I knew from my somewhat troubled youth. He was officer friendly to the t. I recently learned he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has little time left. I learned the night before a get together to honor him was scheduled, I was able to go see him and his family. I agree. Sometime if you can catch one, watch how Sinatra uses the microphone to create his sound. Early on, he figured out that he could control his tones by where he held the microphone. Some people described it as dancing with the mic, but it really wasn't. He could control pitch and length of note, tonal fade and sharpness by how he sang into the mic. He really is one of the great voices, but that was because of more than his vocal cords.

This video is 55 years old, I’m 28, & I’m loving to see this song done live. Always just heard it from albums but never been able to find a live performance. All my friends think I’m weird cuz i love metal but I like to relax to this song & few others that are from the 30s at the end of the day. Nothin these days can beat Frank’s songs!

His diction and understanding of syncopation was absolute perfection. Ladies and gentlemen, the Chairman of the Board.

What the heck is syncopation? Do you mean the harmony and cooperation of lip singing and other?

This is the first time I have seen a video of this song being performed, rather than just hearing a vocal. Frank adds so much to the experience by his charisma. The lyrics and vocals are fantastic, as well.

POV: It's 1956 and you are eating oysters with champagne with some of the most important businesspersons. You salute President Eisenhower a great guy indeed. You see the magnificent Chrysler building glowing in an autumn night in the capital city of the world. You cant see the Empire State, because you are in it There is beautiful women and jazz band playing, and suddely Frank Sinatra comes in.

@JefferyDuran144 жыл бұрын
That’s the first thing I noticed while watching this video. It looks like he was expecting that swing to be a lot stronger than it was so he stomped his foot. Also during the bridge you can hear him say “jump, jump, jump!” as if to tell the band to match his energy. Then @ 1:40 I think he gets surprised with that drum roll and swing.
