I'm not sure if you live in Ireland Geoff but in Ireland funerals are generally open to all who knew the deceased, even the public who, in this case may not have known Shane personally, or his family but who wanted to attend his funeral and sympathise with the family. When my father, an English man died here in Ireland all those whom he had worked with, the students he had been good to, the sports clubs he had been involved with and those whom I and my mother had known all our lives turned up. It took 4 hours for people to file past his coffin and the Cathedral (holding over 1000) was full and all for an English man who had made such an impact on so many people's lives in such a short time. It's what we do in Ireland and it's special.

❤the fairytale of new york was my childhood friend Caras favourite Christmas song. She lost her fight with cancer at just 40yrs old. Leaving 2 little boys without their fierce loving wonderful mum. I remember her singing this song drunk and sober many many times. This week was when she passed 8years ago,and her birthday is next week. The funeral of Shane is simply the best. People united by songs they found joy and resonate with. Creating a meaningful memory. I didn't know Shane. But I just cried as if I did. Because of Cara. May you both rest in paradise. Letztens habe ich den Film über Shane von Johnny gesehen , wow ich war hin und weg..Zwischen Tränen und Lachen ..alles war dabei...Toller Film. Immer wenn ich in unserem Irish Pub bin, ist mein letzter Musikwunsch "Dirty old Town".. bekommt jetzt noch mehr Bedeutung. Johnny, so einen Freund wie dich kann man sich nur wünschen..in guten wie in schlechten Zeiten und ohne zu urteilen. Ich bin im Herzen bei euch. Jetzt trinkt er mit den anderen Großen zusammen seinen Whisky.

I watched the entire service, the streets were lined with people singing his Christmas song. There was singing and dancing at the service, when Johnny lead the prayers of the faithful, he referred to the priest as the maestro. It was a celebration of Shane’s life, Nick Cave sang, the other members of the Pogues performed. The president of Ireland was in attendance. RIP Shane Magowan Artist, singer, song writer, poet and hell raiser, first time I saw him in the 1980’s, the band was then called Póg mo thóin, which means kiss my ass

Shane Macgowan was definitely light worker in disguise. Iv been to his funeral he was God in action very spiritual man filled with love & light. He spread love ❤️. Listen to his funeral. He was so spiritual loved everyone said this is how we should be grateful love everyone biggest message to world He did not judge anyone, especially the homeless..legend. ❤❤.
