The problem is that his voice became a norm - we're so used to it by now that we miss its own character. And this takes nothing away from McGowan, by the way - there's a reason Bono is at McGowan's birthday party, paying court if you will. I love how tight the Irish music scene is, that you have a scene with as diverse artists like U2, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore, Clannad, Sinead O'Connor...and they seem to all know each other and support each other.

This is great, but I wish Bono had got the verses right. He got in a right muddlle, including putting second two lines from 4th verse in the 3rd verse, and jumping that wonderful last verse to near the start (especially noticeable when it starts "Not the song is nearly over..."). Probably an extra reason why the audience jumped in - to keep him on track!
