Just a note, the mixed lots I received were exactly what was pictured in the lot on the website. I wasn't sure if the picture was just representative of the kind of yarn I'd receive or an actual picture of the yarn...it was the latter. I don't know if that is always the case.

I really like the mixed lots for my charity boxes. I'm a fan of mystery yarn because I donate to local charities for kids. They love all these yarns. The crazier the yarn the better! Lol I'm taking a box with craft supplies to John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital this week. The staff makes up individual craft bags/boxes for as many patients as they can and distributes them so the kids can have fun making art. Ice yarns has a hub here in the States. That's how it ships so fast sometimes. I didn't know if you knew that. Nice yarn haul. Love it!

The novelty yarns are typically made from polyester, microfiber, rayon/viscose. The 2 strands with bits of ribbon in between is called ladder yarn. You can strand them with a thicker yarn to get shimmery effects. I use the ribbon yarn in my embroidery as well as the thinner yarns. You can do freeform Irish crochet with the thin shiny yarns. Will show you pictures with examples in a few days.

Going through this again, this time with my notebook. I love the lighter weight yarns.... When I'm purchased the mixed lots, I got what was pictured. So when I decide to buy again, I'll be looking at either the yarn types (fiber type) or colors. Sometimes I but yarns for their material content, weight, and sometimes it's purely for the colors. 😊 I like the multicolor fancy (mercercized cotton) yarns!!!!! I would definitely make decorative things with those!!! The 2 color brownish tan loose twisty yarn is called tweed. I would make a lace cowl with that. I use a 2 color twisty yarn for lace cowls. I'll send you an email to show you. I used to make macrame plant hangers!! HaHA! Oh, what nostalgic memories! I make lots of embellishments out of the thinner threads/yarns. Peach is my fave color. I have bought several mixed lots. Mostly winter yarns. The pictures on the website was exactly what I got. So it is what you see is what you get. I was very pleased with what I got and was able to make many projects with them including shawls, and hat and scarf sets etc. I had enough of one type of yarn that I was able to crochet an adult sweater. In relation to the kid mohair pearl yarn, I have done a couple of different projects with it. The white I knitted a shawl for my niece’s communion. It was lovely and light, like gossamer. With the black, I combined it with another black yarn and crocheted an evening shrug for my sister. Both came out lovely if I do say so for myself. The kid mohair Pearl is very thin and I found it hard to crochet with on its own, but much easier combining it with another yarn. Love your videos.

@@FranniesHair yes it feels softer mixed and it helps lady down since of the fuzz. I'm not a fan of mohair. As you know I'm very sensitive. It didn't bother me crocheting with it, but I don't think I'd crochet with it for too long. I made shawl for someone else more tolerant. I'm a different case though. I have Fibromyalgia and one of the symptoms is an awful fibro itch, so I'm not the best person to judge softness or wearable. It's gorgeous though worked up. All the flat/ribbon items can be used in all kinds of crafts and gift wrapping. The person that sent you the beautiful 3D cards would use them in making the cards. Scrapbookers would use it too. They can be crocheted into market bags and netted Beach bags, perfect for toting the sand toys kids would use or a smaller mesh for sea shell collecting. Anything you need to shake the sand out of. Thin sparkly can be added to any crochet project for a little zing.. one or two strands can be paired with any weight yarn. You can do that with the ladder yarn too. Think table runners and placemats and even a table cloth on a larger scale (would take forever) or cross stitch/embroidery embellishments for crocheted pieces or existing items like pillow cases, purses, pockets and shoes also table clothes and runners. Thin and sparlky make good jewelry too, granny square earrings for example.

I've made few & put a little beading on the fringe for weight. Love them. Doubled, crochet threads make a great clutch. So on watching your crochet hook review again, I ordered 2 single Clover hooks to try them out and a “Pony” crochet hook set. I have received them and here’s what I thought about them. The Clover hooks I found that I had to hold them a little differently or the yarn would slip easily off the hook. Just something I’d have to get used to. But I found the Pony hooks were absolutely perfect for me! Nice point on the end, yarn slid along the hook without slipping off and they felt great in my hand. *The cord would make nice market bags. *The Cotton Air is great for summer hats because it breathes well because it's chain spun. The mohair could be slip stitched on the outside of a garment (long sleeved so it wouldn't scratch your arms). I imagine the black on black would be nice wife the mohair in wide stripes. * I've seen scarves and wraps made with the thin yarn with the nubs. A simple, extremely large stitch was used resulting in a very interesting overall texture. The ladder yarn would work similarly. *The yarn on the spools could be worked together to increase the weight. If you're feeling really adventurous, put multiple ends into the head of a drill and twist them! I have also seen a project where several colors were simply carried within a single crochet (black). The colors really popped and resulted in an interesting striping effect.

Wow what a fascinating selection they sent you. I could see maybe having a few of those threads to play with but i think for me most of it They would have just sat in a container or shelf not really getting used. The yarns in the other hand I would have found ways to use most of them if not all. Thank you for this as I had no idea that Ice yarns even had this option as I have only recently come to find out they exist. I think my next order for yarn will be from here but I do have to consider the shipping. It seems you really have to do the math to see how much each ball comes out to overall to justify the shipping costs but it seems as though it works out really well. Thank you again that was fun! Wish I had some of those to play with myself. One day!☺️

Yes, the shipping can seem hefty, but when figured in, the price is still great. I do have a video on the calculation.💕

I can see some doll clothes out of some of that specialty yarn. Or maybe some fancy hair bows or scrunches? How would they expect you to order more if they didn’t tell you the name of it. Also maybe a basket or a bowl. The price was great though!
@FranniesHair3 жыл бұрын
Great ideas, Sue! I don't know if they are discontinued, so they don't expect you to order more...not sure. I agree, the price was amazing!

@katrinkarlsdottir3 жыл бұрын
There was loads of nice yarn, but you also got quite a bit I'd have no idea what to do with. Many of the metallic would make good trim on garments. Thank you for sharing. Overall I'd say you got a good yarn haul for the money spent.

I agree...and I'm considering it a challenge to learn how to use the yarns I never would have considered buying.😁

The macrame yarns would be good for market bags. Could you use the thin soft yarns in shawls?
@FranniesHair2 жыл бұрын
I agree...macrame would be great and strong for market bags! Yes, I could definitely use the thin yarns in shawls...even crocheted together with another yarn.😁💕

With the black sparkly material, is there enough for an evening shawl? It looks like it would have a nice drape!
@FranniesHair Жыл бұрын
It's hard to say...they sent many duplicates. I'm not sure it would be enough for a whole shawl, but maybe used as a decorative element...edging...Thanks so much for watching!❤️😘

Untwisted yarn yields(sp?) a softer feeling and looking fabric I learned how to crochet on red heart, but most of my crochet, once I learned the stitches, was done with untwisted custom blends. So multi stra do don't bother me. Yarn that is twisted that splits can bug me tho. Primarily that turns our to be some bamboo yarns which is sad because I really like bamboo yarn, love the fabric it turns out too.
@FranniesHair2 жыл бұрын
Agree about the bamboo!😊

Shipping was outrageous. Not to bad per skein but not sure if I would use most of them. Thanks for sharing.
@FranniesHair3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you're right...the per skein price is good. I still find them to be the best deals around...even with the shipping factored in. Where do you get your yarn?
@CharmedCreations3 жыл бұрын
I have never considered ordering the mix lot yarn. I've always been afraid of getting eyelash yarn. For the ribbon yarn hug shrugs are a good make even some of the other thin yarn that you have plenty of (it will use it up quickly). some of the spools/thinner yarns (tops, doilies or baby dresses). I think wearable would be fine (time consuming and a very small hook). Now, I may order some of the mixed lots yarns.
@FranniesHair3 жыл бұрын
What I learned is that the picture of the mixed lot is what you will receive, so you can choose lots with no eyelash.😊

I would crochet a blanket out of all these yarns that have about the same thickness. always the same size diamonds and then put them together like cubes. If you use 3 similar colors you get a nice 3D pattern. I also did it once with very fine yarn that I got cheap. the blanket was just finished and then my son grabbed it and didn't give it back. If you then still make 3 diamonds and sew them together and fill them before you sew them together to form cubes, the 3D effect is even better and the blanket is warmer.
@FranniesHair2 жыл бұрын
Great idea! I'd love to see that blanket. Are you allowed to take a picture of it😊?
@knittingnana29392 жыл бұрын
I buy the mixed lots all the time. Especially if its a saver one. I haven't been disappounted but the shipping is a lot.
@FranniesHair2 жыл бұрын
Does it still work out to be a good deal even with the shipping?
@knittingnana29392 жыл бұрын
@@FranniesHair it depends on how much you order, the more you order, the more reasonable the shipping costs .

You forgot to factor in the 1-2 days needed to get those unlabeled balls wound properly ready for use. Those yarns will end up being "just the ticket" in various unexpected places. Fun!
