Happy Sunday, everyone! I wanted to find something more flashy yet personal for piano music in MIDI so I naturally gravitated towards reportedly the world’s first rockstar, Franz Liszt. This is his famous Liebestraum No. 3 in A-flat Major, originally sequenced in MIDI (performed live via keyboard) by Katsuhiro Oguri. I made modifications to the file by lowering the velocity for some notes (so that they do not sound harsh) and had my own keyboard (modeled after the Yamaha CFX concert grand) play the MIDI file. The visualization here utilizes the soft pink color, a very specific HSL recommendation that ChatGPT made that it felt represents Liebestraum, German for “Dreams of Love.” I asked for a HSL out of curiosity and didn’t expect ChatGPT to give me specific numbers lol Oguri’s rendition of Liebestraum is actually pretty incredible - I did not expect to hear something this good for this piece on the digital side.
