After playing Fear and Hunger for a while, you'll discover that the true horrors that lurks inside the dungeon is the frame drops because my god the frame drops caused me much more stress than dealing with crow mauler or what not because as sooner or later, you'll get the hang of dealing with them. The frame rate though? Nope, you can only try to press everything hoping your character don't done goof cause of the lag.

There are some valid complaints here. I love it when the conclusion to a review of a game that doesn't suit someone is, "not for me" rather than "bad gaem". I mean, I bounced off of this game quite hard, just because I discovered it at a time when I was busy with IRL stuff. I still think that this is a pretty good game, I just don't have the time to dedicate to learning it...anyway, some of the arguments in those reviews are quite funny. I dunno about the one with keybindings. From what I remember, I thought that everything related to controls was pretty standard for rpgmaker-style games. Though, I do have to admit, I do love seeing mah boy Squee represented in the review(don't mind me, this is a Magic The Gathering reference).

The keybinding thing is kinda disingenuous because its 2 buttons and the arrow keys, z too interact, x for the menu and escape too back out like theres not much too "rebind" and its pretty intutiive you look at the controls for a couple seconds

Some people are not open minded enough for this game. They see it's an RPG game, they'll think the difficult stuff is enemies with powerful skills and ton of hp. Fear & Hunger is not interested in that, it does not want you to fight every fight, it does not want you to explore every area, it does not want you to think you are in for another generic RPG game. One part of the difficulty comes in with the dilemmas you'll have to go through, but some people simply don't understand that. Keep it up 🙌

Instead we continued,played hide and seek for 3 hours with monsters that would have killed us on the spot,only for us to lose the mission and lose one of our pc friends ans 2 npcs that were really strong. Based on my experience, Fear and Hunger(at least Termina) can be usually beaten on the normal difficulity even with garbage rng. Rng only becomes a problem on the Maso mode/hard mode, in Maso mode a single miss can ruin your entire run, as example: i got something really good from a chest, then i attacked a sickle villager, i missed his arm, he attacked me, then placed a bear trap, forcing me to guard, stabs and slams me and now i have almost died to the WEAKEST mob in the game, being left with ONLY 25 hp and an infection. Or more commonly, me using mischief of rats only for it to not stun or for the enemy to straight up ignore the fact they are stunned, or ignoring the fact that i was guarding and either dealing the same damage(Karin) or dealing MORE(Caligura). Not to mention that i once got softlocked in Maso mode because Caligura's corpse fell on me and i couldn't move, and if i didn't get lucky with the GoFaH skin bible and saved earlier, i would have had to restart my entire run because the game said "no, fuck you". And then there is yet another run that was ruined because a random Half-cocooned mallet guy that decided to spawn at the orphanage and then killed me, i could go on and on about how rng and bugs ruined my runs but then the comment would be too long. It doesn't help either that enemies destroy half your hp bar in 1 turn with the best gear. So basically, if you know what you are doing - you will usually succeed, just not in Maso mode.

There could be a lot of different complaints like how obscure the fighting mechanics, enemy patterns, how the guard works and how it evades the one shot coinflip. The coinflip itself could be a topic of discussion since one guy had a good point that this game is so luck reliant that you can’t win without being lucky and how the game shows you the coin mechanic to make you think you did the difference there. I know the game well enough to see the patterns and beat it without relying on luck too much but without that knowledge, the whole game seems to be random as the coin flips, one shot attacks, misses and many others Like with the hounds it will be obvious at some point that you just need to hide, a one or two attempts, nothing too out of proportion but with the guard. One thing you can always certainly know is that cleaver can chop your arm off, however, how many attempts will it take for you to see the pattern of one shot attack? How many attempts it would take for you to see how to evade it? And I’m not even talking about trial and error, I mean even if you won but just because the coin flip was in your favour, will you think there was a pattern? I mean he had a dick with random chance of hitting you really hard, he had a coinflip attack why wouldn’t it be random? The problem with the game is that it doesn’t really show you that it has patterns and doesn’t give you ways of noticing these. There is so much randomness that every pattern seems like a random thing. I’m not saying it needs handholding, it just needs to make it a bit more obvious to find out like with sharp things cutting your limbs or importance of always moving
@frapollo94 Жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean but I disagree, as if it told you "look at this thing! It's a pattern that you have to understand" then the game would just become a book! Also there's a hint from ser Seymor that guard may be useful!

@@frapollo94 to be fair though, using Guard when your alone does seem like a bit of a waste though? I mean you are effectively giving the enemy a free turn, granted the enemy can't coin flip you or chop off your limbs off but damage is still damage and it'll accumulate eventually no? I will say just on that bit at the end there that yeah there are people who don't want to play the game but find the games story incredibly interesting. I'm not fan of super hard, unforgiving games like this tbh, but I'm interested on getting it and the sequel just so I can see the story, which I've been hooked on, by myself (wish there was a casual where you get to experience the story and not be worried of losing all your progress because of some mistake), I'll probably be using mods since I really don't like doing things over and over and it'd be nice to manually save anytime.

To be fair, the game doesnt tell u ANYTHING. Without watching guides or reading the wiki at some points its pretty hard to get started. But once u know the basic, its actually pretty easy. 30 minutes to legarde is super doable while taking almost no fights. Personally, I do think the game should give out more hints at least, because the learning curve is incredibly steep otherwise. I enjoyed the game after watching a video essay on it so i know the basics and was able to explore the rest, but for someone who just picked it off the shelf unaware, they might just think its bad game design.
@frapollo94 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, there are a few spots where you get interesting informations, like seymor for example, of course starting as a newbie is hard, but starting as a newbie is hard for any game! But respect your opinion
@KerberosVal Жыл бұрын
@@frapollo94 I do think the game could benefit from giving u some more hints though. For example, the guard is a harmless enemy when u know his attack patterns but it would take 5-8 deaths to figure it out on ur own which would turn down alot of ppl. I mean its not even told that guarding blocks insta kill attacks. If u know ur going into the game expecting the learning curve, its not that hard to spend time to figure out stuff. But if someone just pick it off the shelf, its easy to get turned off within the first hour or so.
@frapollo94 Жыл бұрын
@@KerberosVal seymor puts you in the right direction about guarding coinflips! Also if the game immediately tells you everything then for how Funger is designed there would be no point in playing! To be fair, all of the years of gaming have taught me (and probably not only me) that going for the head is always the best decision. You damage head of your enemy - he is defeated. Also head usually gets more damage because it's... well... a head. So it's only natural to assume that in FnH you have to only go for the head of every enemy. Unfortunately, this game is not your typical RPG, and every fight is a puzzle rather than a DPS/HPS check.
