Back when I was young and stupid and didnt know any better I got stuck there for a couple of hours with my girlfriend in a hire car. Almost died of heat stroke trying to dig the car out with a camp shovel. The grumpy fisherman who begrudgingly pulled us out so he could get through was a life saver! I wanted to buy him a beer, he wanted to punch me in the face, it was a match made in heaven!

@@billroach2393 Bill you would be able to get a heap more out of your car if you look, learn, listen and pratice and you would be fine. Preferably join a club - a good one an not a hoons mob. We travel all the inland deserts, tracks and alpine areas solo without other cars. Also be prepaired to spend money on the car to make it reliable. @@Phil-wq9uq thanks for that Phil. I should've added that I'm now in my mid 60s and have been 4 wheeling for over 30 years...been up the OTT to Cape York, across the Simpson etc etc and was the President of the York Peninsula 4WD Club for almost 10 years.....so it's not as though I don't know how to handle myself in 4x4 situations. I guess what I was trying to say is that those dudes made it look so bloody difficult.....just through their incompetence. Great video - looked like awesome fun! Also it's easy to call someone names from the side lines! Either get in and help, or watch and learn from their mistake/experiences. We all have to start somewhere. Doesn't matter how good you are, you can always learn something. Things I learnt - 1 - constantly changing angle of front tires gets you more traction - 2- when spinning wheels on sand, stop and try something different, and - 3 - my next car is going to be a Nissan Patrol!

Sounds like you've never been in this situation? Most of these guys can't handle themselves. They panic and won't take direction. The ones in stock or hire vehicles who know nothing are usually pretty happy for a helping hand. It's the guys that think they know everything because they spoke to the guy at the ARB that you want to stay clear of. No point putting your gear and your limbs in the firing line.

Some numpty at Range Rover decided to mix like steel bracket with alloy type nut and bolt , mixed those 2 with UK weather and they weld themselves together . Once a Mechanic has done that particular job , He'll never do another . Then the fuel cap door , opened when it wanted , then once a month the ignition would go off , but come on 10 mins later , then after 5 days flat battery , then doors would'nt open, then the pixels in the radio , hifi went blank . Land rover charge £1,000 to put it right , but i bought the pixel £22 from Hungary , who supply LandRover. As a Land Rover Discovery owner I cringe every time I see Discovery's or Range Rover's stuck in sand. It's usually lack of education. I'm commenting here for everyone to learn a little. Later model D4's and RR will have the Land Rover "Terrain Response" system" (TR) which allows for different modes of surface. Firstly, with tyre pressures, places like Inskip and Ngkala, about 15lbs is sufficient even with lower profile 19 or 20" tyres. You can even drop to 12lbs if needed but no sharp turns. D4 and RR have a special beading on the rim that holds the tyre on a little more tightly. Secondly, select Low Range, Off road height and Sand Mode "ON" (on the TR) and then TURN OFF DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). If DSC is NOT turned off you will bog in sand as quick as look at it. If DSC is left on the computer system will think any sideways yaw is sliding and kill the power. It's just inexperience mostly and not being aware of what vehicles can do. I have see RR Sports with TR system deliberately bogged in really soft sand (about as soft as Ngkala but flat) down to the floorpan. All we did was dig out the wheels a little to make a ramp. We used no Maxtrax and with the correct TR setting and no DSC he was able to drive out after a couple of back and forward movements. They are really capable vehicles, it's just that people don't know how to drive them.

Visibly solid sidewalls equals too much pressure in that type of sand. Lowering pressure to the average IQ there of about 10 will be fine with suitable momentum. That said I am used to my triple locked as factory standard 80.

Hot dry sand..gotta love it! Plenty of time in the Simmo in summer in my seismic days...low tyre pressures and momentum is king. Always downhill to recover and have another go. If you get it right you do not even have to be in 4WD. But just sitting there spinning makes that stuff softer and bottomless. Notice how the rangie driver finally worked out what his little car can do when you turn the knob to the right setting.

Please see the tyres. Most of them already lower the tyres. There's nothing wrong to lower the tyres further down when bogged. It makes no sense to drive with 8 or 10 psi all the way from entry. As once tyre is ripped off from the rim. No one can help ya.

@@kylelove3914 sand has an angle of repose and can only sustain a certain height over a specific width. So "normal" wheel tracks can only be a set or fixed depth (based on the angle of repose). Within obvious angles of inclination, 10 psi will get you ANYWHERE on ANY soft sand. The sand cannot be "too" soft, there is a limit! Any sand anywhere can be traversed carefully at 10psi. The only potential limitation is the surrounding incline. Momentum is your friend on inclines 👍

I can’t believe not a single person knows how to drive in soft sand properly! Low PSI, drive SLOWLY, don’t spin wheels otherwise you just dig yourself further in. Engage rear lockers if you must, but only when needed. This is a good learning experience for everyone before hitting soft sand. 😊👍
