Back when I was young and stupid and didnt know any better I got stuck there for a couple of hours with my girlfriend in a hire car. Almost died of heat stroke trying to dig the car out with a camp shovel. The grumpy fisherman who begrudgingly pulled us out so he could get through was a life saver! As a Land Rover Discovery owner I cringe every time I see Discovery's or Range Rover's stuck in sand. It's usually lack of education. I'm commenting here for everyone to learn a little. Later model D4's and RR will have the Land Rover "Terrain Response" system" (TR) which allows for different modes of surface. Firstly, with tyre pressures, places like Inskip and Ngkala, about 15lbs is sufficient even with lower profile 19 or 20" tyres. You can even drop to 12lbs if needed but no sharp turns. D4 and RR have a special beading on the rim that holds the tyre on a little more tightly. Secondly, select Low Range, Off road height and Sand Mode "ON" (on the TR) and then TURN OFF DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). If DSC is NOT turned off you will bog in sand as quick as look at it. If DSC is left on the computer system will think any sideways yaw is sliding and kill the power. It's just inexperience mostly and not being aware of what vehicles can do. I have see RR Sports with TR system deliberately bogged in really soft sand (about as soft as Ngkala but flat) down to the floorpan. All we did was dig out the wheels a little to make a ramp. We used no Maxtrax and with the correct TR setting and no DSC he was able to drive out after a couple of back and forward movements. They are really capable vehicles, it's just that people don't know how to drive them.

@ 11:33 That's a big No No hooking the snatch strap to the tow ball on the black 4x4. The tow ball can snap off and become a metal ball flying back at the recovery vehicle.

Amateur hour on Fraser, all letting tires down after bogged.
@ysgood4 жыл бұрын
Please see the tyres. Most of them already lower the tyres. There's nothing wrong to lower the tyres further down when bogged. It makes no sense to drive with 8 or 10 psi all the way from entry. As once tyre is ripped off from the rim. No one can help ya.

So many idiots making such a simple task so difficult! Low tyre pressure (10-12 psi) is all that's needed.

Haha just because they have a Range Rover doesn’t mean it’s not going to get stuck.

not in all circumstances, Iv driven up soft sand like cape flattry dunes with less than 10psi and still doesnt make a difference. sand that soft you cant do shit haha

@@kylelove3914 sand has an angle of repose and can only sustain a certain height over a specific width. So "normal" wheel tracks can only be a set or fixed depth (based on the angle of repose). Within obvious angles of inclination, 10 psi will get you ANYWHERE on ANY soft sand. The sand cannot be "too" soft, there is a limit! Any sand anywhere can be traversed carefully at 10psi. The only potential limitation is the surrounding incline. Momentum is your friend on inclines 👍

The doiche with the overlanding stickers was the best. Why the ruck would you brake and slow down in the middle of a soft sand patch?

I have an 03 expedition. Has 4 high and 4 low. Falken wildpeak at3w tires. Drove all the time on the beach in NY. Was some deep sand. Would air down to 15psi. Never got stuck. There must be some special sand down under. I’d probably roll up thinking no issue and get stuck too haha

I can’t believe not a single person knows how to drive in soft sand properly! Low PSI, drive SLOWLY, don’t spin wheels otherwise you just dig yourself further in. Engage rear lockers if you must, but only when needed. This is a good learning experience for everyone before hitting soft sand. 😊👍
