Congratulations are in order for Cruz and Andor.
FP1 hatched 4/2 by 08:24, FP2 hatched 4/4 by 06:45.
This is a new nest camera installed by Dr. Sharpe in the fall of 2023. The nesting site is also new and was only previously used in 2023 (successfully so). The nest is located in a quiet canyon, on Santa Cruz Island in California, about 10-15 feet off the ground.

Resident female since 2012: A-49 Cruz, hatched in 2006 in the Pelican Harbor territory (1st natural hatch on the Chanel Islands since the beginning of the restoration project). Parents K-26 and K-10. She is Andor's biological aunt.
Resident male since 2022: A-14 Andor (A Norwegian form of the phrase "Eagle of Thor".), hatched in 2017 in the Baby's Harbor territory. Parents A-68 and A-27. Andor is A-66 Jim's younger brother.

Always amazing. I was holding my breath as those fierce talons came down next to that freshly hatched still wet little body. It is not easy being an eagle.

Hi Cali! Hatching. Has a study been done on how many eaglets are male vs. female? I'm thinking probably not as size seems to be a major component in making a determination? Also, once they fledge and leave the nest they tend to scatter. Thanks!
