I love your channel, but the best thing to do with those cilantro is to put them in the compost pile and say prayers of apology to the gods for having propagated one of the devils herbs.

Here in Eastern KY (#6), my Cilantro grows like weed on my raise beds. I just plant some here and there, and are guarantied to come up. I save the seeds of one plant every year. Use some for cooking (the Coriander), some for next year planting. They don't care if it's too hot. In winter, they will wilt, then comeback in the following spring. They are so easy to grow. I also make lots of Cilantro pesto.

Great tips. I’ve struggled to get cilantro to produce without immediately bolting.

Thanks for the cilantro tips. I live in Minnesota and Japanese beetles like roses. The next door neighbor ripped her roses out because of them. We just had trees cut down so we can start some new vegetable and flower bed areas. I would like to try a few roses but are their varieties that would be more resistant to the beetles and how do we keep the beetles off the roses. So far we go out and shake tree branches into soapy water when they get on the ends of our birch tree limbs and north star cherry trees. We do have a spray, I can’t recall the name right now but that seems to work pretty well but we spray the birch after the cherries are harvested since that tree is close to the cherries. And we keep the cherry trees very small so we deal with the beetles by hand on those trees since I’m trying not to spray pesticides on the food we eat. Thanks for your channel and your help.

Thanks Michelle - Japanese beetle is a tough one, and happily, they're not in my area (yet). Might be worth looking up the nematodes (heterohabditis bacteriophora) that attack the grub stage of the beetle in the ground in late summer/early fall.

How and when can we harvest? Harvesting should be done by cutting the leaves or uprooting the plant?
@FraserValleyRoseFarm4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Trudy - by trimming so that you get a 2nd (and 3rd maybe) harvest from the same plant. Trimming also delays flowering.

Hi Jason, thank you so much for the tips. I have a question that I wish you could help me. I planted my cilantro seeds outside in a deep pot and placed it in the west. I live in Norway so in currently the lights are so strong and we get a lot of lights. The seedlings grow well but it looks weak & leggy. They are currently in 6-8 cm / 2-3 inches in height. Is there anything that I can do to make it not leggy? Should I move it a shade? Thank you so much!

Hi Jason, I moved into a 1650 (Dutch) house some 30 years ago and never spend any time in the garden. I'm now making some changes there to grow some fruit. I've got 3-4 species of roses there that have gone wild the whole time and who knows how long before. The stems of some are 7-10 cm in diameter and they grow 3-4(-5) meters high unsupported. Is there a resource where I can identify them to see if they are worth some effort to save their genes? They smell nice and the cuttings of the one I used your tips on seem to work. All throw out flowers for a long time but never spectacular in a single burst.

The best resource I know for rose varieties is helpmefind.com - but with many thousands of varieties in (and out) of the trade, it can be a bit hard to narrow down. If they're reblooming through the season, that eliminates some of the old garden rose classes (albas, damasks, gallicas, centifolias) - but still leaves plenty of other possibilities. Worth saving? Mostly based on your own judgement of garden-worthy qualities. If in doubt, maybe see if there's a local garden club/group with someone experienced with roses - they might not be able to ID uncommon roses by sight either, but may be able to eliminate some of the more common varieties.

Is there another kind of furtilzer I could use other than liquid fish?
@FraserValleyRoseFarm4 жыл бұрын
Sure. Take your pick of what's available locally. Some of the organic blends are excellent (if a bit expensive) or you can use conventional liquid feed fertilizer.

Thank you for this video! My seed packet and my small amount of research has said to plant cilantro seeds directly in my raised bed, not indoors. Any different tips for doing it this way?
@apexpower224 жыл бұрын
if your weather alows it hen sowing outside is always a good option, make it less work if you just sow plenty of them and then thin it and maybe fill in empty spots.
@FraserValleyRoseFarm4 жыл бұрын
If you sow outdoors, it may take a bit longer for germination, but no real difference in technique - consistent moisture until the seeds germinate, then you can back off watering a bit.

Hey Jason , I like ur videos. I wish to grow mint & basil in side my house throughout the year . Is it possible?? If yes , can u please make a video
@FraserValleyRoseFarm4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'll put it on my list. Yes, both can be grown indoors - but it takes a bit more attention to light, air circulation and pest control. See my video on growing roses under LED lights for some more info
