Please ask him about the civic vandalism he has perpetrated on various architectural treasures of Liverpool city centre like the illegal abomination that sits atop of the shankly hotel and his other half built monstrosities behind exchange flags with panels blowing off the roof almost killing passers by below!This stag n' hen tack is what the city needs to drop! we are better than that and let Laurence concentrate on what he is really good at which is rehabilitation of the drug addicts on our streets because our liberal minded leaders think ignoring it is showing some kind compassion?

Lawrence as ever was 100% correct about Michael Heseltine,s influence in Liverpool's future success! Like Lawrence, I'm old enough to remember the sad state that the Royal Albert Dock had become after decades of abandonment and decline , the silted Docks and once busy Warehouses ;( He undoubtedly lit the fuse back in the mid 1980’s that would allow our Great City to explode into a Positive future ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I started watching this at 23 30 and ended up watching the whole thing on my TV app. I have always wanted to be Mayor of Liverpool myself but when Joe Anderson was in charge it was impossible to win as the 20% of voters who bothered to turn up always voted Labour because their Dad told them that is what they had to do. That is killing the City. Now the position of Mayor has been abandoned no one individual has got the chance of ever changing things in Liverpool. You now have to be the Leader of the Labour Party in Liverpool to be the 'Mayor' and that is next to impossible to achieve unless you are part of that shadow organisation which runs these things. They removed the position of Mayor because they knew quite well the next time the election would come around an Independent like Lawrence or Stephen YIP (or me) the Labour Party would lose the seat and lose over all control of the City. The Mayor held all the power and the corrupt machine that is still there would have no direct authority. I'd sack them all on day one. Liverpool has massive potential but the Labour Party has to go. I'd rather have a Tory Council like in 1982 than a corrupt Labour one who stole all the money. I'd turn Liverpool into Liverpool LTD. Furthermore: I think when these type of podcasts are recorded the two of you should sit down before hand and draw out a road map and structure for the conversation to follow. too many times the interview went forwards and backwards and some things got lost in the too and fro. You should try to structure the conversation so it has more continuity and you might get your message across a little better. Loved this though Lawrence Kenright is a proper Scouser for doing this. 100%.

I've not finished watching, but this is fascinating. I moved to Liverpool in 1997 after flying the nest in Newcastle at 18, gave university a pop (the year before tuition fees), and fell in love with the place. Lived all over the city, wavertree, mossley hill, toxteth twice (Harrington rd, then of lodgy road), aigburth, allerton, and am now in the King's Dock. The development has been incredible, especially in the docks area, but yeah when I first landed here, the homeless numbers were a fraction of what you see now. I think party politics is a pantomime tbh, and democracy in it's current form is a charade, smoke and mirrors to give consumers the illusion of control.

I remember the Albert Dock before renovation. We (kids) spent a saturday afternoon down there, the actual docks were full of sloppy mud (where the gates left open or was it lack of maintenance plus no-one paid to fix/close them?) I later involved renovating the Pier Masters house there when they did the whole thing up. The lock gate in front of the PMH was replaced. That concrete pour was a huge undertaking, it was a big hole in the ground that had to carry the new gate and the forces of the water. It had a qualifier like "biggest concrete pour in England/Europe". I was told there was a line of concrete-mixer lorries backed up from the lock gate to the main road, as one left another arrived and this went on for 36hrs? in one continuous pour. The actual warehouses were these big substantial things, arched steel plate for a roof and brick walls many feet thick. (I wonder how flat-owners get on with heating them, etc?) They were happier times. ;-)

The Albert Dock was the start of Liverpool's resurgence, without the refurb of the largest Grade 1 listed building in the U.K. we would never had gained Capital of Culture, which was the catalyst for Liverpool one, a £1.1 billion pound investment along with many other initiatives.

As a city we may have had to ride the roller coaster of covid but we're more than just a tourist attraction, the impact that had on the city through covid can't be ignored but we've learned from past experiences of being on our knees through tory governments and that worked to our advantage. I think we know how to weather any storm thrown our way, I don't mean for a minute it was easy but 40 years ago that would have been the final straw.

The main thing that has held and will forever hold Liverpool back are precisely those socialist ideals. The City will never flourish properly until it unshackles iself from its socialist ideology and a new generation of people come along who are gutsy, respect hard work and thrive on success rather than past failures. Ask yourself one question. Where did the money come from for Liverpool One? Where did this gentleman hope to find capital for his excellent business ideas? By the way. I'm a huge fan of the City and her people and chose to live here rather than was raised here.

Really enjoyed that. Let’s start it here! Couldn’t agree more with that statement. The whole system all around the world is corrupt! All leaders are out to make the most for themselves and not to serve the best interests of the people who voted them in. We all get a 2 party system basically to choose from and both are the same, the rich get richer and the rest stay where they are (if they are lucky). The whole system needs to change and Liverpool is the place for it 👍

That is one of many times the people of Liverpool have stood up against the UK government. We have some of the greatest playwrights, poets, socialist minds, musicians and not to mention the city’s sporting achievements all from one tiny little port! Clearly property development is a key factor for resolving Lpools Issues, on many fronts, docklands proved that. However the key to prosperity has deeper issues, including the attitude of the people who sadly in our great City are largely reliant on the state. Then you do the sums and realise the state largely has people trapped given the financial insentive to work dosn't add up, perhaps by design. Saying that people like these guys are pivotal to change, given the chance, support and will of the people. Sdly 18,000 views in six months with such an important topic! The white chapel centre outreach teams who find beds for people evaluate if someone is homeless or not by checking if they have a registered tenancy or a bed at a hostel if not they find the accommodation. They work hard at what they do often with people who are in trenched in the lifestyle making it hard to make that change. That’s not to say change is not possible, it definitely is, however that individual has to really want that help many will have good intentions but when it comes to changing habits that shape the life they live and know it can be really scary. I get what Lawrence is saying because few years ago the servers where crap. Now you have white chapel, YMCA together, we are with you, ad action, pathways, they are all well funded ok we know nothing is clean and it comes down to profit somewhere but the psychological care now going into the training of staff is really affective in a short space of time. Most of the cities homeless have been so for 20 years in some cases to be that in trenched and change has to be a real want for change. If the city wasn’t flooded with street drugs you wouldn’t have so many people living the way they do 90 percent of homelessness it addiction related. A lot have had tendency’s and due to the lifestyle end up back on the street. It’s more than just homelessness it’s everything that goes with it abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, exposure, trauma, everything has a link. Love the debate style of this podcast really good to watch.

Hi Alex, I found that the system was fractured, there was little cohesion between the various stages of rehabilitation and I could talk about those issues for hours, but to save us all a lot of time, we should as a City, which is better than most in how it deals with its homeless issues, deal with childhood trauma. Nearly every addict that I have ever met has been faced with severe trauma, but this cannot be measured and so many of our Cities addicts who go to rehab, go due to them being forced as the abscess that sits in their chest will never be removed unless dealt with and so their addiction merely masks over their trauma and for an hour that seems to be the answer until they need their next fix. This issue has never gained any improvements in 20 years, we fail by spending £1.2 mil a year on Rehab for 100 people with just a 5% success rate and yet nothing has changed, but our politicians get to tick their political box

@@lawrencekenwright. Hi Lawrence, I totally get what you are saying and after having a look at the stats an figures from only a few years back I can see why you see it from that angle 100 percent however that has changed and a the new style is person centred to each individual. This has come from a new revamp with company’s like YMCA together training all there staff in cognitive analytic therapy CAT and the difference in support and rehabilitation from only a short time ago is worlds apart. Now that’s not my opinion it’s an observation both on paper and practical. I understand the dark side of the moon mor than most trust me and that’s just how the world operates now not just here but universal is shit but it’s life as we know. The positive is this Liverpool has never been in such a position with funding for homeless both in training of the people who make that framework and the individual people who have had a terrible hand delt to them. Don’t forget a also tho many homeless people are in trenched in that life and are scared to move away from it those are the people who need that person centred more than others and in the hope that one day that mind shift happens and they turn it all around for the better I have seen it happen countless times and when it happens it’s beautiful. So rest assured that regardless of past experiences this city is well armed and people who give a shit are doing gods work if you like that also includes those beautiful people who go around the city on a Tuesday and Thursday with Brian. The stance we made has to some degree forced the Council to reconfigure their offer, as they spend £11.7 mil a year on what is largely unmeasured. Here is a podcast with Richard Gannon, as I talk in more depth about the homeless debacle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYq3d5-Ni9tnbJI Lets try and meet one day to run through My email is lk@signatureliving.co.uk

If the local media is so corrupt and Laurence is so media savvy I think one option would be for him to start up a an online alternative. I started a page called Merseyside people where I was just going about Liverpool ad-hoc and interviewing people cold on the the street. Like the guy did in New York humans of New York. I work as a youth worker support worker I would like to talk to Laurence I've also crossed some undesirable mafia and I have the same distaste for such pond life and corruption in general.

Laurence Easeman , it's James Street as in James Street Railway station 👍 Not Saint James Street as you pertained to it 3 times lol ! Lawrence corrected you on the third attempt, lol ;) Don't believe there is a actual St James Street in Liverpool City Centre? Albeit there was a St James railway station, but that closed in 1917 !! Could be wrong though 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

We need to stop corruption as these funds should be placed into the 30 wards which have been bereft of funding for years, the Max Caller report states this figure could be as high as £100 million pounds, I believe it is far higher

Hi Sandra, I have often thought of England standing on its own without having to support Scotland, Wales and Ireland, as the English have less spent per head than any other people living in the other Countries.

He's right about Hezeltine. I was too young at the time to be interested in politics (I was after young fella things) and simply looked at him as "that tory tw@t" sort of thing. Thatcher has that effect on socialist-leaning folk. But yes he did champion the area. The MDC was due to him, and as LK says, we got the garden festival, albert dock, etc. I believe Hezzer had connections to Liverpool or the Merseyside area: what were they?
@lawrencekenwright.
@lawrencekenwright. 2 жыл бұрын
When Hazeltine came to Liverpool, he was greeted with open arms by Tony McGann, a true Scouse, who gained a cold shoulder from the left and also got his car blew up outside of his own home, clearly this is where Politics becomes tribal and tribes go to War. Thankfully Hont kept to his principles which was not about the tribe he once represented but how he could help hundreds of families gain their home. Scousers come first not politics

This is very interesting. Hugely frustrating tho, as the interviewer won’t shut up for a second and allow the guy with the knowledge to speak without unnecessary interruptions, which spoils - for me at least - the flow of the story. For heavens sake shut up man and let your guest tell his story. Still good tho.
