@rebeccahetrick65762 жыл бұрын
Your original paper towel holder is actually better than the one that you are reviewing, you just need to flip the paper towel roll over for it to work correctly. That swirly part that ends with a little ball that sits a couple inches up from the bottom of the paper towel roll is actually there to help you rip a sheet off with just one hand. If you have the paper towels facing the correct way and you rip it from the bottom up, you can use your original paper towel holder one-handed. And also, the quality of paper towel plays a huge role in using these. If you're using brawny or Viva towels, they're going to work much better because those towels are stronger and have better perforations so they rip off easier and they tend to not get that triangle on the bottom like yours did.

I'm generally against single use gadgets figuring a common knife or something like that can do the job as well. But the PB peanut butter spreader seems to do something only a spatula would do. The fridge monkey seems like a good idea to stack tall items, but stuff like cans fit so much better up right. Or if you buy the 12 packs (6x2), the already fit nicely in the fridge.
@gimmethunder3 жыл бұрын
Fun fact. You commented on the strange name for the fridge monkey, the term monkey likely comes from the brass plate used to stack cannon balls next to a cannon. It was a plate with dimples in it for the cannon balls to sit in, then they could stack more cannon balls in layers resulting in the classic pyramid shaped cannon ball stacks you see in movies and tv. It's also where the term, "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey," came from. Since brass is more affected by thermal expansion and contraction than the iron cannon balls, they would shrink more in extreme cold weather. If it was cold enough, and the brass monkey shrank enough, it could dislodge a cannon ball from the monkey and cause it to roll off, therefor, freezing the cannonball off the brass monkey. The fridge monkey is a plate with grooves in it to stack cans/bottles, therefor it's a fridge monkey.

All in one comments: 1) Stirring a full jar of peanut butter is a thing for those of us who prefer the old-fashion unsweetened stuff like Adams. Grade: A 2. Even more important than the one-hand tear is the ability to tear without touching the roll with your wet or dirty hands. Grade: A- 3. The best way to butter corn is with a piece of buttered bread. Unless you don't eat bread, this is a solution without a problem. Grade C+ 4. The reviewers are right. It needs to hold six beverage cans. Then you use two of the holders to stack a twelve pack (or two six packs) nicely. Ditto three Gatorade or wine. The pyramid is dumb. Grade: D- Other opinions may differ.

Mind you the kitchen roll is on a proper stand with a tensioned retainer but it's internal, not some weird external springy thing. I bought a marble paper towel holder at a garage sale 20 years ago and it lets me tear one sheet at a time forever. I use a spoon for peanut butter - works great. I stopped putting butter on my sweet corn 40 years ago and golly can you ever taste the sweet without the butter, so no need for a specialty knife. Cans? Nope. Great video for odd inventions so you can see what not to spend money on. Smile!

You know, for a mid-range brand, OXO is generally pretty impressive.

The fact you kept tearing the corner off the paper towels is not a problem with the holder it is a flaw in manufacturing combined with your tearing technique.

Wanna reuse the jars after your done? To clean very easily, rip old newspaper, throw it in the jar add water and a couple drops of soap and shake.... cleans everything out fast and easy!!

That’s what former prisoner Larry Lawton said they did in prison to clean old peanut butter jars so they could hold hooch. Hot water, strips of newspaper, shake. Voila!

Love the OXO paper towel holder had it for years. Just moved to the OXO under cabinet paper towel holder. Well worth it for both of them. Only tip I say is always have the arm facing you. You do your tear right next to it and not on the other side like you had(you did have it right at 1st). Never had an issue with it.

Hey. Your other paper towel holder is made for one handed use. You use the metal ball on the side to press through the perforation. Then boom. That’s how I use mine

The paper towel holder where the pressure comes from inside via the pole being slightly wider paddles, work great. Theres no need for that external pole bit as the internal pole itself is where the friction comes from. it therefore doesn't change the single sheet action when you get to the end.

I've had that OxO paper towel holder for about 5 years now, and it still works great. The base is heavy with a rubber bottom so it doesn't move, and the arm spring hasn't lost any noticeable tension. Absolutely hated spending that much on a paper towel holder, but hated spinning half a roll out of the old one even more.

It has been a year. How is the paper towel holder holding up? Cheers

For the paper towel you originally had, I always put it and pull at an angle so the ball would hit the paper towel perforations and tear...

So with the cheap paper towel holder you have make the paper towel go the other way so you can tip it with the metal ball???
