Hi there, sorry for late reply, yes most gospel musicians are known on the "scene" and so may be called by various churches and / or worship / praise leaders to play for them. The more they play the more their network grows and the more known they become.

Should have laid out if didn't know the tunes that well. Definitely not throwing shade and have been there myself but must lay ego aside. It sounds really bad if the bass player does know the tunes. If Fred is coming to your church would definitely shed to know every note. Fills don't help if don't know the song. Hope lesson was learned.
