Join me in this video after taking on the challenge to fix @FreddieDobbs Triumph Bonneville T100SE. This motorcycle is the central focal point of his channel and has been right there with him on many adventures from all over Europe to the Sahara, across the Atlas Mountains to the local coffee shop!
We continue by checking for fault codes in TuneEcu and correcting some issues with the MAP sensor to intake pipes to hopefully correct the rough running
Check out Freddie Dobbs' KZbin channel right here:

I just read through the comments and realised there are many people like me fascinated with this series of videos. I think because many of us relate to Freddie’s situation and we are riveted by an expert like Joe who knows his stuff and explains systematically how to find out what the problems may be. I will be following this channel more and hope to see more relatable fixes and diagnostics

I love this collaboration so much. The Bonneville is not that old and has a relatively low mileage - it can be fixed! It’s just so many of us have been brought up in a disposable world where the word ‘replace’ has taken over from ‘repair’. Modern bikes are excessively complex and rely on a plethora of sensors that feed data into a fully computerized engine management system that overrides the basic mechanical functions of the motorcycle. All good until the sensors start failing, corrupting the data going to the management system! Keep up the great work and let’s get the Dobbs Booneville back on the road.

Really interesting problem solving. Hey Freddie, pretty sure you’ve now learned a lesson about preventative & regular maintenance from this. I’m guessing the cost is parts only as the hourly rate for problem solving on numerous issues would certainly be building. Always good to watch someone on the tools that knows what they’re doing.

I'm really grateful to have been following the progress of Freddie Dobbs bike..... in many ways you have an old style approach two repairing this motorcycle.... and that is checking all the small stuff first that could create a collective problem.... well done on this but it's no wonder the majority of owners cannot repair their own machines.... Whatever happened to home workshop simplicity.... I love playing and tinkering with my 1980 BMW twin....

God job on the intake hoses. Check the manifold intake o-rings also... Between the intake manifold pipe and the head. there is an o-ring in there that gets rock hard, breaks and leaks air into the inlet stream... sometimes intermittently. It will drive you nuts trying to find it. In the old days you could tell by spraying starting fluid around the junction but with the new fuel management systems this is not a good tell anymore... Just get in there and look is the only reliable way.

Nice work on the Ambient Pressure Sensor. So many folks just swap the part and clear the code...without confirming the original one is actually not working as you have done here (by first clearing the code, re-trying the original sensor and having code return). BTW, in case others don't know, the Ambient Pressure Sensor is an identical part number to the two MAP sensors monitoring pressure in the two intake manifolds (where those plastic vacuum lines being renewed in the video run to). So one way to help test a suspected faulty MAP sensor, just swap with the Ambient Pressure Sensor for testing. One other tip, when performing the Reset Adaptations procedure, there have been reports of people damaging the plastic oil pump drive gear due to leaving the bike idling for the 20 min of the procedure while on the side stand. This has the oil sloshed over away from the pump drive gear and vulnerable to over heating...the drive gear can actually melt and deform. Best to use a centerstand or wheel chock to hold bike vertical and to have fan blowing on the engine to keep temps down.

This is a great series Joe. Freddie's always going on about old carburetted bikes, but that's really because he's only ever had newer fuel injection bikes. I'm probably nearly as old as both you and Freddie put together so I can find my way round old bikes, but newer bikes running on hose and electronics power give me the heebie-jeebies. Even if we only comprehend the smallest amounts of what you're teaching us it's inspiring to see a master at work and offered a rare opportunity to learn. Thank you!.

On the compression front I would do 3 tests cold as you have done but also put some engine oil down the bore and do it again as this will show if rings or valves are at fault and finally do a compression test with the engine at running temperature. Nice work so far fueling should be a lot better after the work so far 👍
