Freddie Frinton was born Frederick Bittiner Coo on the 17 January 1909 in Grimsby. This British comedian, who died in 1968, is today still a household name in Germany and Scandinavia due to his performance in 'Dinner for One'. In 1963 he made the first of five BBC TV series of 'Meet the Wife' (63-66) in which he played plumber Freddie Blacklock who with his wife Thora (Thora Hird) lived in the north of England. This was a much loved sitcom with the Beatles even mentioning it in their song 'Good Morning, Good Morning' ..." People running round it's five o'clock, Everywhere in town it's getting dark, Everyone you see is full of life, It's time for tea and Meet the Wife" ... Freddie's variety stage and TV act usually saw him as the perennial drunk, with top hat a tails and a trademark broken cigarette hanging from his hand (ironically he was a teetotaller). His Dinner for One sketch with May Warden is now a classic piece of TV comedy almost everywhere... except in his native Britain... watch it here: • Dinner for One - Fredd...
