Gibbs was definitely in his bag on this album. His discography is one of the best in the game at this point. Steel Doors is my favorite song

Album was 🔥 Lord was cookin. No features, just straight Caine. Title being the reverse of his other album, You Only Live 2wice was a dope concept. He was talkin to his homeboy Jesus on there. Flow was crazy. Any song could be a fav imo. At one point damn near each was for me.

This is the MOST hip hop I have listened to in a very long time! Kendrick really brought me back 2 years ago + then this beef, dissecting lyrics, made it fun and exciting again.. Before now I have never listened to a Freddie Gibbs album 💿.. The content was a bit too heavy for me (street activity) but decent overall. Thank you for loving hip hop! You and VibeVilla are two of my faves on KZbin when it comes to new music ❤

In my opinion Freddie Gibbs content is always on point and he works with what he's got well as far as flow, delivery, and beat. He's made another solid joint. My favorites on this album are Wolverine and Ruthless.

Top 2 Freddie album for me. It might be touching Alfredo. I don’t usually love a Freddie project front to back but he really did his thing. I loved the theme and the funniest part for me is that I listen to the Nobody Like You Interlude more than any other track
@DIRTYFINGERPROJECTАй бұрын
Another great addition to his catalogue. Being somewhat of a sequel to You Only Live 2wice, the beats, concept and lyrics all hit just right. Solid on the replay value.

Rob, this is definitely a podcast. Same way I personally hate being called a 'rapper'. When you think about it, both are very impressive crafts with the wrong connotations attached to them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one loving this album. I loved Chromakopia, but I haven't gone back to it nearly as much as YOD1. Right now, my top 3 albums this year are YOD1, Soul Burger, and Samurai in no particular order. Two of these albums only came out the last couple weeks but there hasn't been much else I've had on permanent rotation rap album wise.

This is a show, Rob. A damn good show; and that tagline is the perfect way to let people know that. This isn’t some hour long talk-a-thon with some friends in a rented studio. This is thoughtful programming by a respected journalist, made to be paid attention to! Just My Thoughts with Rob Markman is one of the best hip-hop media *shows*, period. That’s what I tell people, anyway.

Man I was sleeping on this especially when I ate pretty good after the Beef... the release date, the lack of roll out and the antics made me think like nah I dont hear baseless drug raps.. lol. But I gave a listen when I failed to really get into the Ab-Soul joint because Fred dont miss from what I knew, especially before the antics and Soul Sold Separatly was great too (the mix more clear and production more fishy but not as tight as the ones before but so solid. But this shit right here is amazing. I didn't know. Gibbs gotta hella of a gift especially with crafting bodies of work

Not related but curious since you enjoy comic books, do you read manga/Japanese comic books? The anime influence in hip-hop is so interesting to me as an anime fan (you've seen it with Megan Thee Stallion, Kanye West, etc). Also, not sure if you do reviews/revisits of classic hip-hop albums, but that'd be interesting, too. Either way, thanks for all the great work you do!

Perfect beats (for him I'm assuming) is a good topic because that's one of the aspects of rap that can be difficult to deal from the artists P.O.V. I say that (being an artist) because I know my voice sounds better on certain beats and sometimes those beats aren't the style of beats that might be popular at the time. That can be difficult to admit to yourself... that YOUR bag might not get you THE bag. Not to say FG or anyone else is trash because of that... it just is what it is (shrug)
