Montserrat remembered to that night this way: "While he was singing, I noticed that his eyes were shiny with tears. I gave him my hand. He clasped it and kissed it. It was clear he was suddenly aware of his own fate. They were tears of farewell. It was his goodbye, at least to the stage." Freddie's passion always came through in his songs and performances.

When they recorded Barcelona, Montserrat said "we will meet again to sing this at the Barcelona olympics" and Freddie said "I won't be there". And then he proceeded to tell her about his condition. She said she was honored that he considered such a friend that he would tell her. She truly loved him I believe!

I saw that interview with Montserrat, it was so sad. There is also an unveiling video on KZbin that is for the statue of Freddie placed in Montreaux, Switzerland, where Queen recorded many songs. Montserrat is there, crying and hugging Freddie’s mother, it’s beautiful. RIP Freddie and Montserrat, you are both legends and will never be forgotten.

All the stuff on the Barcelona album is just outstanding!!! If you haven't already, you should react to Exercises In Free Love by Freddie, and the entire track is just Freddie's voice and some instrumentation. It was a demo of a song that Freddie had written that he sang his and Monserrat's parts to see if she approved of it to be on the album before he actually sat down and added the lyrics. The track is mind blowing. It was Freddie's dream to have Monserrat's voice singing one of his songs or doing a duet with him. When he got the cassette of her voice on his song he was flying around the moon. Then once they did that song, she asked how many songs were on an album and then suggested that they do an album together. Freddie was so unprepared but figured he better put his money where his mouth was and wrote the album Barcelona. He said it was very difficult because he had gotten so used to the boys in Queen that he knew how to write for them but he knew little about Monserrat. They both nailed it in my opinion. This was not really a concert, this was a video for the song.

How can I hear this song and not weep out of sadness that Freddy didn't get to see the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. A part of him knew that he'd not live to be a part of the olympics. So, this song combines a great love and bitter loss. We are all human. Thank you for this excellent reaction, Derek.

I think you would appreciate "Ensueño" by Freddie and Montserrat. Freddie made "Exercises in Free Love" for his solo album. He gifted it to Montserrat, and she sang it at an actual Opera in his honor. She took the song and wrote lyrics for it, and it became "Ensueño". Freddie sings this with Montserrat entirely in Spanish.

@wnsafford18543 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying, but I don't think Freddie's life should be defined by his death. His life was wonderful, exciting, creative, magical, massively successful, filled with adoring fans & loyal & loving friends & family. He achieved what most can't even dream of & left an enduring legacy. The only tragedy I see is in his death, which came far too soon.
@garryiglesias40743 жыл бұрын
@@wnsafford1854 Yes that was not my point. It just happens that I can't help but think about his recording of "The Show Must Go On"... And the "panache" he had until the end. Moreover, I've been raised in a extreme fundamentalist religion, anti-gay and I've been raised with the idea that he was a "devil guy" just because of him being gay... It's all that... But I also cry when I think about the Genius of Newton, when I listen to the golden arc of Pink Floyd, when I think about Syd Barrett, and at the showdown of Once Upon a Time in the West. That's my nature :).
