I myself can say freddy fender gave country music a piece of history...he him self said he created tex-Mex rockabilly...which is indeed true...his mixture of country doo wop and rockabilly speaks for Its self...all 75 people who disliked this video or his music need to do their homework and pay attention to his sound his voice and rethink their thumbs down....god has a special place for senior fender

Like the story of a cowboy. The true cowboys were the vaqueros. The music comes with us. And we come in all colors sizes and shapes. The gringo left our history out of our country, but as a teacher of 32 years our history was going to be taught in my 2nd grade class.

His place in history isn't just in the beautiful music, but in what he did with his talent. Until he came along, my father had never thought of Spanish flavored songs except Flamenco and the Mariachi bands in American movies. He and I became fans those many years ago, when we heard him on the "quality built" radio in a '56 Plymouth. That he was a bridge between disparate cultures in that era was an important thing. He showed the world of that time that a Mexican American could be more than a movie sidekick. That his culture was truly a part of the world and time we all shared. My father has been gone over 45 years now, but even so, When I shut my eyes and here him sing, I see my father. There, in the shadows, I can see him by the firelight, keeping time with one finger on the arm of his chair. Freddy Fender built more than he knew, and like fine wine, goes down smoother with each hair that turns gray and then white, on my teenage head of yesterday. R I P old friend, R I P.

I saw all the stars in my bucket list--except Freddy Fender. He passed away before I had the chance. In Branson years ago we saw a sign advertising Freddy Fender at a hotel on the edge of town. My wife and I walked from mid-town to the edge of town, only to discover that Freddy had already performed and left. We did get to hear his band though, which was still in town at another venue.
