This is the full compilation detailing the entire military life of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. I have worked on this project with a passion. In total, the series took me roughly 2 years. As time progresses, you will see a sharp increase in quality. I hope you enjoy, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to create this documentary series! If anyone is kind enough to timecode each battle, that would be greatly appreciated!

Frederick’s armies were so good that a captain, who was discharged in 1763 after the treaties, eventually found his way to America - during the Revolutionary War. He helped train Washington’s army in 1777-78 while wintering at Valley Forge. Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Ferdinand von Steuben was so effective he was quickly given the rank of Major general in the Continental army, and led troops during the battles of Monmouth Courthouse and at Yorktown.

So the American myth of "the British army got beat by a bunch of farmers" gets flushed down the toilet when you learn they had the creme de la creme of Prussian military personnel training them and leading them.
@NorthernXY3 ай бұрын
He wasn't so much discharged after the treaties as much as he was forced to take an extended leave of absence. Everything I've heard about him was that he was flamboyantly gay, so he wasn't exactly popular in the Prussian "manly" military circles, despite his king most likely being gay. I need to fact check this but apparently when he showed up to Washington's camp, he was decked out in a fabulous sleigh with 1 or 2 younger "companions". As I'm pretty sure Prussia and England were still allies during the American Revolution, von Steuben training Americans to fight the British was "okay" because it was a pseudo exile for him. Not seen as an agent acting on Prussia's behalf.

@@NorthernXY 'despite the king being a flower' Revionist nonsense for a modern audience. Every great man is a flower now days because it fits modern morals. There is no evidence he was beyond someone wishing he was.

@@SCMSD Has nothing to do with modern audiences when even his contemporaries spoke of him as homosexual. Also we have letters of him were he makes explicit references to homosexual intercourse. While I agree that there is a regrettable modern trend to put historical figures into modern sexual categories there is way more proof for Fredericks homosexuality than against it. You shouldnt let culture war bs get in the way of actually acknowledging historical truth

Good video , highly informative & entertainment in historical wars . However the main reason Frederick the Great thought that Austria was a weak target up for grabs was because of following reasons: (1) In that era Women were not considered experts in Administration, Diplomacy & War .These 3 criteria were critical for governing any region as Earl , Duke , Prince , Monarch etc . (2) Frederick had a strong army that was used to drills with strong allies initially. France was a strong continental power . (3) He also had a decent spy network during initial phase of war . The only time he was caught off guard was due to double spies who sent contradictory report . (4) Maria Theresa's father , Maria Theresa & Francis 1 had made a huge blunder before marriage. The Emperor had asked Francis 1 to exchange his ancestral lands of Lorraine to deposed King of Poland for Grand Duchy of Tuscany ! During this exchange, Francis did not ask for Wood , Ships & /or Trade agreements from France , Savoy & King of Poland - Lithuania. Since no courtier even suggested any of above , both Frederick's Father considered Austrian Court as made up of Naive aristocracy ! (5) Frederick knew that Maria Theresa was not taught any of 3 above qualities mentioned in point 1 until she willingly took it up a few months before marriage. He then knew she would be a weak ruler for time being until she sufficiently upgraded her knowledge ( similar to Sansa Stark compared with Queen of Thorns of Game of Thrones ) . (6) Emperor Frederick's Quick March during war , Flanking tactics , well trained army & Pincer movements literally devastated the other faction who wished to avoid huge losses even before battle began . Literally the old aristocracy had big fat titles without knowledge, will power , resources ,talent etc to lead any army . As evidenced when Austria army withdrew without firing a single shot after learning that Saxons had been defeated. How much time does Austrian army require to deploy on battle field despite 2-3 hours of Saxons fighting?! Frederick must have viewed them as Lazy , untrained ,lead by fatuous commanders .

Is Frederick Prussia's greatest king? Then IMO they must have had lots of awful kings - because I don't think he was very good. He claimed to be a philosopher and all he brought was war. He attacked every neighbor Prussia had I think. He's definitely overrated as a general - he would dissappear or leave before battles were won. How many people died in battle in his wars? Frederick stands for everything a modern Europe is against; glorification of war and might makes right. He partitioned Poland - just that action alone turned out to have a disastrous legacy. Hitler thought he was great - and H as well as being a personification of evil, he was was one of the worst judges of character in all history, no?
