I was born in Dec of 1965. Sadly my dad passed away 2 months & 2 days before my 3rd birthday and my mom passed 1 month 1 day before my 9th birthday after being increasingly sick for at least 4 years. I was born late into my family, my sister was 17 years older than me and my brother 10 years older. I don't know a whole lot about my family, but it's been not only great & fun watching commercials my parents watched, but soothing. I imagine my mom and dad sitting down after dinner watching TV & my mom putting her feet up especially as it got closer to my birth, seeing these commercials and talking about the products, thank you.

These commercials sure evoke memories of a more laid back time. I know the kids my age miss that too. Life was so much more simple. My brother had a paper route and bought the Polaroid Swinger. It was really 'high tech' for the time and awe inspiring. Thank you FredFlix for taking us back to the days of our childhood.

Yeh...I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. The first time I saw the Mustang in person was on display at the NY Worlds Fair. Yeh America was much more laid back, Nowhere near the sh!thole America has become now.

The person born in 1900 would beg to differ. To him the most high tech thing was the telegram and the phone you have to crank before you can use it. As for those who think today is so complicated the people of the 2080s will be laughing at those who lived in the 2020s Those old fashion bulky V Reality head wear, primitive computers that have the buffering crap. Streaming channels that take a minute or more to load. Everyone seems to hate some one for a million and one reasons.

@@frankreynolds445 Obviously every generation has seen advancements and technology just as we do now. Someone born in 1900 did not have the ability to see the future any more than we can. Everything they experienced was their reality in real time and nothing more. Furthermore, every generation has it's own set of complications and life struggles. Your post has a bitter sounding edge. Before using a blanket description of “more laid back” for 1965, consider the Vietnam War and the draft, riots, rising drug abuse - and realize that victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault had no place to turn. I understand a person’s warm feelings from their own memories. But the whole time was not more laid back.

I was 15 in 1965. When the commercial came on with the grimy guy testing the firearm with grease all over his hands, immediately I yelled out “Lava soap”! Ha ha! I’d forgotten about it, but we ALWAYS had a bar of Lava by our kitchen sink. Very enjoyable video, Fred. Thanks!

After my older sister started an after-school job, she saved up and got a Polaroid Swinger. And she took it with her whenever she went out with her friends, just like in the commercial. I liked the music from a lot of commercials like "Let Hertz put you in the driver's seat" and the Marlboro commercials. If only I can turn on the TV and get only shows and commercials from the late 50s and all of the 60s. Thanks for another trip back to my childhood!

Yes!....I remember all of these commercials! I remember when my uncle bought a Polaroid Swinger, he was 18 at the time and got his first job right out of HS. He was taking pictures of everything until the novelty wore off.

I was only 8 back in 1965. Commercials back then were not only short and to the point, but they also showed you the features and benefits of these products as well. Nowadays, these TV commercials are both dumb and stupid.

Ah, the lovely Donna Loren in that Simplicity ad...one of my first ever crushes, although I remember her mainly from her Dr. Pepper commercials and her appearances on Where the Action Is. And she dances "The Freddy" in this one, but don't hold that against her...She's still with us, and still a lovely lady.

I was 7 in 1965. I remember most of these commercials! My older sisters sewed clothes for me and my Barbie, and I remember the Simplicity commercial. I remember the Oscar Meyer wiener commercials, and they tasted better back then! The Coke commercial song I recognized immediately! My mother had a gas stove that leaked after she cleaned it. She would tell us all to go outside and Public Service fixed it. I was terrified that the house was going to blow up. I never had a gas stove until my husband, who enjoys cooking, bought one a few years ago. I told him that I wasn’t going to touch it, and I still haven’t. I hate them!😂

@countalucard4226 Those tobacco companies and their slick ads: Liars! Too many of us took to smoking cancer sticks. Thank God I quit when I was 32. My lungs are very clear after 35+ years, and no other health problems by the grace of God! In the 1970's there were PSA's against smoking. I remember Yul Brynner did one. His message: "Just don't smoke!"

My sister and I with many other classmates were in a Camero commercial in 1965. It was in a Chinatown school in San Francisco. The commercial play during Bewitch and Bonanza. I wish we could find it. The money paid for a washing machine. We were so grateful. It was hard washing clothes for 8 by hand.

The Swinger got me, the incredible Polaroid Swinger for 1995 (wait not the year-but price $19.95). That would be close to $200 nowadays. Ali McGraw doing commercials in 1965! This was the beginning of her acting career. She would have been around 26 years old at the time.

I'm still amazed at this Poloroid Swinger commercial. After so many years of watching your other video, I got to recognize an old Poloroid Swinger that my mom's older brother owned, along with other old Poloroid and Kodak cameras (the Instamatic sans the cube) like the ones that look like an accordion (I don't know the exact model name). My grandmother must have spoiled my mom's older brother by buying those cameras.

The Peral shampoo showed a pearl slowly dropping down the bottle. I cut my mom Pearl necklace and I got in trouble.Tang was for the water from the fuel cells to give taste.

I was 19 in 1965. It was an exciting time. I moved to L.A. , started a career, and then got drafted. I loved how the girls dressed and looked back then. They ACTUALLY wore dresses and skirts ! Today, they dress like they're either going to Disneyland or to work as a Pole Dancer. Everything was ours . Our generation controlled everything, the music, the movies, the cars and the style of clothes. I've owned the Double Breasted, the NERU, the turtleneck, the Ascot ! By the way, I had a REAL CRUSH on Donna Lauren ! What a DOLL ! 👍💙

Ah, the '60s, when smokes that sounded like they contained ground up charcoal bricks, we're glamorized, and AMC produced some weird looking thing called the Marlin 🤔. I was born in '65 but if I would have been old enough to drive, I would have definitely wanted one of those Mustangs, at least until the '66 GTO came out! I grew up in Florida so we only got orange juice, usually fresh squeezed, Tang wasn't an option. WOW 🤩, I really dig that Coca-Cola beach commercial!😍 Cool video Fred!😎

well, the Mustang actually came out in 1964, but yeah it was hugely popular and nearly 60 years later, it still is. I remember in 1965 someone in our little town had placed a sticker on a stop sign that read "Mustang owners honk your horn, you lucky devils!"

I showed my grandparents that I am subscribed to this channel they were 74 in June and July this year, and they remember the Coke and the and the mustang and the the gum. I asked them what's beach in a company says a brand that's not a type. I've never seen Beach tonight I don't know, but this is fantastic. You do a masterful job with these commercials, please keep uploading them, it must be a labor of love for you I certainly love it I was 26th in July and I showed my parents my parents don't remember cuz they were born in 74 but, but my grandparents doing they're getting a real charge out of this it's fascinating to them to see those commercials again. 1:10 I remember those Polaroid backing strips used to be all over the place after a graduation, or even sometimes at a wedding. People would just toss them on the ground until the SX-70 came out in 1975 with the rollers that pulled the photo away from the backing before it left the cartridge, so all the backings ended up getting thrown away with the empty cartridge. Of course, if you were a real slob, there was always the option of tossing the cartridge on the ground.

Barry Manilow sang that Polaroid Swinger jingle. He didn't write it, so it wasn't part of his jingles medley he used to do in his stage show. I'm not sure, but the backing vocalists sound like the women who sang on Paul Evans' "Seven Little Girls (Sitting in the Back Seat)", or maybe Trudy Packer, who did the "1-2-3-4, stick around, we'll tell you more" on Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie...etc".

I sure do miss those old commercials for soda. . Has anyone but me noticed lately that a great majority of TV commercials these days feature a dog - regardless of whether or not the product being advertised has anything to do with dogs? From cleaning products to insurance and everything in between. It's become a cliche. What's even worse are commercials for prescription drugs showing people walking around in garish work-out clothing having conversations about their health problems - and of course at least one of them is walking a dog. Particularly offensive are the ones that show overweight bald guy strolling around carrying a clipboard and high fiving everyone he meets along the way for no discernible reason whatsoever?

Mmmm, because charcoal makes my cigarettes more healthy! LOL, I've been to the Duchess' "cottage"! I was only 4 that year so I can't admit to remembering those particular commercials.

I was 3 years old for most of 1965, having been born at the tail end of 1961. I don't remember seeing these exact commercials, as I would have been much too young. We always had a t.v. in our house, but we didn't get a colour set until 1977. Of course, some of the products are so well-known; Coca-Cola, Oscar Meyer Wieners, One-A-Day vitamins (advertised with Fred Flintstone, and Barney Rubble) before Flintstones chewables vitamins. I have to say that hearing the phrase "retarded children" was very jarring. So hurtful and insensitive to hear now, almost 60 years later. Thank goodness we have progressed to saying "special needs" children now. A much more positive phrase. When I was growing up, being called retarded was a really cruel put-down, to use the terminology of the day. I was waiting for commercials for the Playtex 18-hour bra, Slinky toys, Etch-a-sketch, laundry detergent that was "stronger than dirt", etc. I always wondered what happened in the 19th hour of that bra. Did it self-destruct, like the audio tapes from 'Mission Impossible'? That would have been a really mind-blowing commercial!! Peace out.

I bought a Polaroid Swinger camera back in '65 or '66. I loved it, although the photos sometimes had problems. Plus, you had to use a stinky costing solution on the prints afterwards and it was hard to get a smooth finish. I still have a few of those photos. Wallet-sized. Fairly decent image quality. I also liked the jingle "Meet the Swinger". The arrangement style reminds me of the early Up With People songs, which I performed with (on electric guitar) in freshman year in high school, 68-69. Those were great years.
