President Truman. Testing 2 power mics.

UPDATE. The KPO 532 failed on the BIG 40 net so an updated video will be made in 2022.
Testing the KPO 532 and Pama power microphones with the President Truman CB radio. This is a basic audio test using an Alinco DX77e radio for receive. Using a power mic allows you more comfort when using a CB radio for long periods.

UPDATE. Following the making of this video the KPO 532 failed with broken audio on the BIG 40 CB Net. Iam not sure of the problem but will update things with a new video in a few weeks.

KPO 532 Sound very good but very poor build quality ,cheap components.They dont last long.

I have 2 mics identical to the Pama mic in your video, under the brands DIESEL 4-2 and SUPER STAR DM-433. Both single AA. Both have different microphones and pcb's. Much better than stock on my President HR2510. Awesome test and video, Fred.

Yep standard Mike was pretty darn good but definitely the kpo was the best overall sound and quality 👍 great video as always Fred ✊

I had a K-PO on a HF radio and the audio was very good. Sorry to hear you had problems with your K-PO , I got mine a few years back for Knights CB and specified the radio (ICON) and it was wired correctly to the radio.

I seem to recall that when UK FM CB radio servicing, also on KZbin, did a tune up on one of these that the deviation and power were set quite low out of the box.

I would take a pic of the FM deviation pot and adjust and listen - and use the standard mic. I think they are excellent when the FM mod is adjusted and optimised

Thats wat my locals told me... it's a original CB radio.. they are narrow banded. just tune them up! original 1,5 khz bring it up to 2,3-2,7 khz :)

Hay Fred! I have the same with my brand new McKinley.. Some locals around told me that it's because its narrow band.. around 1,5 Khz they told me to wind it up to 2,3-2.7 khz.. (like a HF rig) dont use another Mic.. the original sounds the best. bring it to your local ham radio store and let them tune it up :)

Each President radio plays best with Sadelta Echo-Mike or Astatic Handmike if you don't like to adjust deviation for some reasons. Otherwise the original Mike is not too bad as well and still has enough modulation power for local and DX-QSO's. Another idea would be to buy a optional President Original-Mike but with Up-and Down buttons. Its very helpful to switch the channels fastly, especially for the Truman.

KPO at 1/3 power seemed the best from here but I run the stock on my lincoln 2+ and get good reports.

With the KPO it made no difference what setting you put it to, it might if I were listening to you at range, but from one radio as close as they were no change. The standard mic sounded the best, but would not pick you up if it were not close to your mouth, so if you want a sensitive mic, it has to be the KPO.. Failure will be battery or wire come adrift or shorting to the shell of the mic!

What's your thoughts on the Mickinley? 1 I have looked at of late, along with the 9900. Still waiting for a good day to put up the new ⅝w GM, expecting better results over the ⅝w Silver Rod. The McKinley gets some good reports but can also suffer from quite audio. Steff on the 305 adjusted his inside and it sounds very good. Never had a complaint on the audio on the 9900

Possibly the Pama microphone has a Dynamic element. Your radio is designed to be used with a Electret condenser microphone. The KPO and President standard are Electret condenser microphones.

@@Optimus2179, Mike i have a president jonhson 2, i like the radio, but the mic cord is too stiff, youre correct about the electret, do you know another mic & cord, 4 or 6 i could i use with a 4 pin adaptor, THANKS
