Don't buy it. ! - the selectivity is crap as are most of these cheap radios. Don't forget we are just over the peak of the sunspot cycle where you can use any old crap to pick up HF easily. The problem, as I said, is SELECTIVITY ! - it has NO proper filtering. you can hear the atrocious channel breakthrough. This is from a REAL radio ham not a CB radio user. (G4....) an utter waste of money like all the muppets who are modifying the Quansheng etc for HF. A Joke.

Hi Fred! Growing up through the 70s and 80s, theres something really appealing about the overall design. I think that Panasonic made a similar "looking" radio back in the late 70s I think theyve got the design right, and I think it will definitely appeal to people of our age, whether were into radio or not! Definitely on my wish list for sure! Cheers Fred!

@dxace14 ай бұрын
Thanks for crediting my observation on the muting. In addition, when it comes to ATS, it takes nearly 15 minutes to scan from 2 mHz to the top of the SW range. Unless I am missing something, that is WAY too slow, especially in contrast to Tecsun radios.

It looks like a great radio but i have seen the price on amazon and i skipped it rightaway! There is an everything bubble which means everything is overpriced! I mean a 80 dollar XHDATA D808 does the same whereas this radio is around 270 dollars plus shipping is outrageous! Thanks for doing this in depth review. The fact that the radio is SSB compatible is great! The radio seems good in general but I think I'll hold off on purchasing one for now because the tuner doesn't receive while tuning the main dial with no option to get rid of that problem tells me they did not take the shortwave seriously enough. The shortwave spectrum is broad and one should be able to tune quickly through the frequencies without having to stop on each increment just to hear what is there.

I'm really pleased by your review you and toddebert are the only the only 2 that has done a proper review. There are several other well known KZbinrs that really did a very very poor review didn't touch on most of its functions they listen to 1 band. Didn't go into antenna operations or change the screens nothing. I just wanted to thank you for doing a proper review Fred. Note**** they are working on an update fix for the firmware update to fix the muting while tuning and frequency accuracy just to let you know. Dan Robinson was very clear to raddy on what they needed to address so did Giles.. cheers from Alabama USA!!!

Glad you liked the review. I had to be very brutal on editing to get it below an hour as i felt that its a relative expensive radio and all functions good and bad should be shown. Yes the muted tuning is a shame. ATS had the exact same issues with the 20 version but did improve it later on.

This is a DSP based tuner & a friend of mine has this & herd it not bad sounding. BIG DOWNFALL If you live close to a FM commercial tower you can hear overload + bleeding on the Shortwave bands. For the price of this made in China radio best to get a Tecsun PL-990x or H-501x for about the same price as it does not mute while tuning & no bleed though. It does not do VHF & UHF but there is other radios for that. I watched it & loved the video thanks -Cheers!

Cheers. Yes FM / MW bleed over can be a problem esp on a long wire if you live near a transmitter. I thinks it even worse on SDR dongles and I fought with it a while back and made a few videos on the subject. Did not notice a problem with this radio though. The higher range of Tecsun radios are very good.

I've just received the hangronda version of this radio, the HRD c919. I must say that I'm quite disappointed with both the medium wave and long wave performance. Weak stations on medium wave are nearly always received with both whistles and whines on top of them. Radio 4 on long wave is very weak, with always a hetrodyne tone on top of it. Radio 4 is a real strong signal here in the midlands, so I can't understand why it's so bad, . So if you are a medium and long wave fan, I'd avoid this thing!

Watched. A lot of people are digging on the price for the radio for the features. I remember growing up we had an analog tuned AM\FM\VHF\UHF radio. We would sit and listen to the planes overhead, which is about all the extra it was good for. It probably cost the same back then as this unit today and this one does so much more. No radio is perfect and you get what you pay for. I'm starting my foray into SW with something cheaper, but I've been on the lookout for a good upgrade in the future. I figured out just about everything, but you filled in a few blanks for me, so thank you. It appears to be a keeper, but it does have some problems with overloading. In my area, I have several transmitters, both AM and FM that are close by. With a regular S-Meter, these stations are S-60 or better. I noticed on the SW band 7335 kHz was ghosting into 11620 ( RRI ) so I went into the settings and engaged the LPF, and this helped. Overall, I think it's a good, but not great radio. I don't think there is any radio out in the market with all these features. It's very enjoyable to use.

Raddy is essentially selling a shortwave radio with a major DEFECT, what is known as, muted tuning, meaning you cannot hear what is being broadcast on all t he stations as you surf the channels when you tune the radio from frequency to frequency, whether you tune it manually with the fine tuning knob or when you press a button to tune the radio from frequency to frequency. You will see on the frequency meter as you do this a visual display that indicates the frequency strength of each individual through signals represented visually on the signal meter station or channel you surf through. But muted tuning means you will lose the audio momentarily so that the audio level drops off the board, as they say, completely, not allowing you to hear what is being broadcast unless you stop at any given frequency and stay there. Muted tuning can make it possible for you to inadvertently pass over channels or stations you might otherwise prefer to stay on and listen to. That this particular Raddy radio has this muted tuning is not a feature but a design flaw whereby the Raddy company should issue a recall and have their customers send the radios back to Raddy for a fix but Raddy will not do this unless forced to by either the US government or by a court ruling and neither one is likely to happen unless lawsuits are filed against Raddy and they will be forced to answer the lawsuits in open court or agree to an out of court settlement. Raddy has not been responsive enough to address customer concerns about this defect. They offer a quick-fix email link but so far, the half dozen people I've spoken to who have this radio and are stuck with this muted tuning defect have tried to follow Raddy's directions to correct this muted tuning flaw but this quick-fix does not work in actuality. At least not for the six people I spoke to. How many other Raddy customers have gotten similar run-arounds from Raddy, I don't know. But as I said in my prior comment below, Raddy is a company operating from Communist China and are likely owned the Chinese communist government or their military under the business banner they call, Raddy. And so far, from what I have seen of Chinese companies who produce products with defects, they always fail to correct problems or address customer concerns. Once they have your money, they could care less. In China, over the past 40 years, there have been a never-ending number of inferior shortwave radios being produced in China and sold from there. Only a few of them have had any merit. Most of these radios have come and gone because of inferior designs and built-in defects. Let's see what happens with this particular Raddy radio. Let's see if Raddy takes the initiative and accepts the responsibility it should and begin not only fixing these adios but all future models of this particular radio. They need a revised schematic upon which to base refute production of this radio. I personally will not buy this radio unless Raddy corrects the defect and markets all new versions of this radio with the problem of muted tuning eradicated. All such future models of this radio must then be sold with a new model number to reflect the fact the muted tuning defect has been corrected.

Fred I bought mine from Raddioddity and received it about May 11, 2024. I agree the manual leaves much to be desired but Raddioddity has the updated download version on their website I appreciate being able to adjust the font on my IPad. Paul OM0CET video helped me use the SET button to access the LNA1,LNA2 ,LPF on the 3.5” dial. It makes a big improvement on SW. I hope they will offer firmware updates as I would like them to offer SSB tuning from LW to the 1GHZ , just as my Belka offers from 100KHZ to 30MHZ , plus NBFM the same as the Belka. Fred you can use the R919 like a USB SD card reader for your computer. That comes in handy if I am short on USB C ports and need to access my files that I have stored on my SD cards. 73! Watched. And fully enjoyed. It really is a shame that the frequency jump causes sound dropouts as it was looking so good. Back to my 660 we go.

Evening Fred. Superb Video - a LOT of work!! My compliments! You have nearly sold it to me and it also looks better in your shed (less plasticy). The only problem is, there are 2 or 3 niggles that should not happen with a EURO 300.- Radio! And there is the price... in the EU it really hurts! Can't buy it in the UK anymore thanks to Brexit, it would end up including customs and taxes EURO 352.-!! And that is my "Autsch"-Area! If I wouldn't already have all types of radios standing around I would probably buy it. But just for fun and the looks... well, time will tell! Perhaps sell a teenager or two..but nobody pays enough or eben wants them!!😂😂 Must think, not about getting the radio but more if it fits in my doghouse together with me once my wife is done with me!😁 Thanks for all your excellent work, greetings from Ireland!

Hi. Thanks for your honest comment. Yes prices have gone up since Brexit and Covid. HF radios are now pushing £1600. I think before this Raddy the Tecsun 2000 was a good option but that radio is no more and also going for £400 used on ebay. Crazy world. Thanks for your comment.
