Due to many wondering if the small wire connection instructions are correct: The small white or the green with the yellow stripe is the connection/jumper between the center neutral lug and the frame on 3 wire cords only. With a four wire cable you must not use that connection so the wire is put under the neutral screw to hold it out of the way. It is just connected to itself inside the unit. All other green wires connect to the metal cabinet frame.

Someone told me I can move the screw closer to another hole on back on metal on mach ? I know the green is the ground . I am scared to do that before I get advice.
@PaoloFrancesco993 ай бұрын
Thanks for this explanation. My wire is green with yellow stripe and all the examples on line show it as white. Kenmore shouldn't have used a green color when in reality it's neutral. And I know this to be true from the diagram on back of the unit too.

Thank you so much for the video! I understand that the center cord on the three prong is neutral and will always be neutral. However, when it comes to line one and line two I'm not sure which is which. If you flip the cord the other way, the center is always going to be neutral no matter which way you're holding it. But l1 and l2 are going to be in different positions depending on how you're holding the cord. Is there way to know what's the proper way it should be facing? I'm thinking the flat side of the connection should be facing away from you where the center of the crimp should be facing you. Is that correct??

Can you explain what to look for in question of the damaged bolt and nut cross threading you spoke about? I wonder because they have recently attached a 3 prong dryer cord to my new dryer and also have questions about it. Like for example how would I know which is the correct prong to use a 3 or 4? Is it depending on the wall socket capacity only? I'm not very knowledgeable on any of it and I would greatly appreciate some much needed guidance to make sure I know what's going on when the delivery guy hooks up the brand new dryer ordered because the new one received seems to be faulty and I wonder if it's due to this 3 and 4 prong option.. 😮
@fredsapplianceacademy6 ай бұрын
Sure! When any damage occurs to the nuts or bolts they will not seat correctly. By that I mean the screw will not go in all the way and tighten against the cord. The screws should almost effortlessly go into the nuts. Any resistance means cross threading is likely happening. Cross threading is basically when the screw or nut is not aligned and threads become damaged. You can visibly see this on the threads when it happens. When we talk about prong, it is the cord that matches to the outlet. If you have an outlet with 3 holes you need a 3 prong cord and if you have an outlet with 4 holes you need a 4 prong cord. A 3 prong or 4 prong setup will operate the dryer without issue. Hope this helps!

I just attached the 3 wire as we moved into a house with it from a 4 prong. I did as you showed, and after the dryer runs for about 5 or 10 mins, the breaker for that outlet keeps shutting off, and suggestions as to why this takes place? Dryer kicks out heat and functions as it should. I did notice that I had the wires facing the wrong direction, not the correct placement, but the crimps attaching the wire to the actual connector.
@fredsapplianceacademy Жыл бұрын
You can take an amp draw on the dryer. With an amp probe put it around the red or black wire near the terminal block then run the dryer on timed dry high heat. When heating it should draw right around 24 amps then drop back down when not heating to around 5. If the amp draw is normal I would suspect your breaker is weak or there might be a loose connection in the home wiring. If the Amp draw for the dryer is too high there is a fault in the dryer such as a short that needs to be corrected.

New dryer not working after 3 prong cord install. Swap the other 2 wires on the terminals with neutral still in the center?
@fredsapplianceacademy3 ай бұрын
Neutral will always go in the center. L1 and L2 won't matter. If it's still not working after install, might have an issue with power supply or the dryer itself.

So does it matter which wires go left and right as long as the middle line goes in middle neutral? And if so could you explain why?
@adambutcher420426 күн бұрын
Hello there Connor. When doing a 3 wire install as long as then neutral is placed in the middle it does not matter where the two outside lines go. This is because L1 and L2 function the same way. we could say that l1 comes off the left side of the transformer and l2 comes off the right side. When both L1 and L2 are used for a power supply you get 240vac. Any time neutral is used it splits the transformer in half and the power supply will now be 120vac. Hope this helps.
