i rebuilt a black/tuxedo 62 four door series 62 and drove it for about ten years. the weak link in the 390 is top end oiling.. the cam was shot at 100k but everything else was tip top. easy build.

when restored, to protect these cars against rust : put grease every where : between carpet and metal, inside rear gate, doors, under the car, rear wings, behind bumpers, when you cannot reach these places with a paintbrush, use an extender to pour oil. to be repeted regulary for oil. Grease is the only thing really very efficient againt rust. it is my experience of 35 years.. from france.
@Ford57 Жыл бұрын
Yes i agree.... From France too, i do the same thing everywhere i can, on my cars. I did not fond 62 Caddy, but i found and got 58 Ford fairlane, 58 Ford skyliner, and 58 Mercury montclair, all of them are hard-top coupe . And i like them.....

62 Cadillacs are so good looking, I always thought it was the year Cadillac got elegant again, my grandparents had a really pretty tan 62 coupe DeVille, she turned it in on a new 67 CDV

I was scrolling through and stumbled across your channel. I absolutely love these old caddies. For detailing if you mix vinegar and water 121 in a mop bucket. And give that old girl. It will kill all that rust. Then Buffett with a claybar. Then hit it with compound and polishing. It'll surprise you how much that old lacquer paint will come back

Broooo that car is awesome. If your going to use it a lot, you probably shouldn’t do a full restoration. Maybe fix some rust holes and throw on some paint?
@simonw2631 Жыл бұрын
Just one thing, don’t walk on a car like that especially the roof and especially on the front and rear part of the roof where it meets the windshield. You could crack the glass.
@mississippibarnfinesandcla3559 Жыл бұрын
Ok I won’t do that anymore but the front windshield is already cracked so I didn’t think it really mattered

For what reason was it necessary to walk on the trunk, roof , and hood ? You could have done them safely from the ground with out putting any dents in the metal ...

This is the first year Cadillac had a dual chamber brake master cylinder. Rambler, Cadillac and Jaguar were the only makes in 1962 that came with a dual chamber master cylinder. All models of Rambler (Rambler Ambassador, Rambler Classic and Rambler American), all models of Cadillac and all models of Jaguar came with the dual master cylinder starting in 1962. Rambler & Cadillac share the same master cylinder. GM only built its Cadillac line with the dual master cylinder from 1962-66, while Rambler made it standard on all its models including the 1962 Metropolitan. None of the other makes of cars built their cars with a dual master cylinder until it became mandatory in 1967. The master cylinder is not the original style dual master cylinder, as that MC for the 1962-63 models is discontinued. The OEM dual cylinder had screw on caps and was a 4 bolt master cylinder.

One of my uncles always drove Cadillac because he said an early one saved his life in an accident. He had a Burgundy Red one of this model. His might have been two door I don't remember but probably not, they had four kids. He had the big tailwind model too I remember. Actually I think his like this was blue...a turquoiseee metallic blue.The big fin was reddish. Cool cars.
