FREE Abandoned Car Found in Woods | Rare Vw Beetle Sitting for Years Rescued!

Today we go into the woods of Fairfield County CT to rescue an abandoned 1956 Vw Beetle that has been sitting for years. We pull this old rare car from it's grave and it hits the streets once again...well, on a trailer haha.

I ve always been an NSU prinz guy myself, but,i remember about 30 years ago there was a beige colored 60s bug down the granville gorge back where i used to live in mass. must have gone over the side of the road and not been recovered. There was also the rear half of an oval window in a field in southwick. I also found a 60s era bug body behind a house in westfield. Evidently, these things are abandoned everywhere! Glad to see youre a CT neighbor! Im in Manchester.

Back when I was in college in 1965 a friend had a European spec split rear window bug. It had been bought in Germany by a member of the Australian embassy staff. It went with him to different posts around the planet and then to the US when he was posted here. He sold it to my friend. College kids will buy anything with wheels. It had the little flag turn signals in the door pillars. I wonder what ever happened to it.

Saving any of these bugs means that meaninful parts are available. What comes to mind is being able to section a portion of a door or window, to then weld it to a good lower portion: poor man's OEM!!! Chris Gatineau QC, Canada

Looks EXACTLY like this one. It HAS rear fenders with directionals, headliner, seats still in red. It DOESNT have an engine, rear deck lid, hood, or steering wheel…

Talk to property owners first @@FairHavenFarm . Then inquire with tag agency with vin & ask about abandoned vehicle process

Option A) check on google maps and see if it gives you the property boundaries and a street or lot number. Then go to the local council chamber and ask who owns the land. If you are polite and explain you are into old cars etc they are more likely to help. Option B) start by knocking on the door of the nearest house, explain that you are into old cars and are trying to find out who owns the one on the land over there. if they don't know, ask them who might know. Keep chasing, if you hit a dead end, ask at the next closest house. Etc. Option C) go to the post office and see if you can find out who delivers on that road, then ask them. If the postman doesn't know he/she will probably know who to ask.

Oh man, that car is rough. But the black/red color combo is my favorite for old cars. Looks like it may have had an accessory Dehne fuel gauge installed, judging by the holes int he top of the gas tank. EDIT: I helped a buddy haul a few old VW's out of the woods several years ago. The last trip was two dune buggies on one trailer. No good way to get them off, so we tied them together, tied the rear one to a tree stump, and stomped on it! Worked perfectly, too. No ramps, just speed and power. That was good for a laugh!

This poor beetle is so rusty underneath that it seems a miracle to me, that it didn't fall apart when you were pullin it up and down the trailer. Btw... it's strange but this one has two different front fenders. The right one with the "lying" headlight glass and the left one with the vertical headlight glass from a 70's model. Jason, you may be getting to that stage of the “saving old vw’s” part of life where you need to get a forklift… The kind with the beefy wheels that go off road. what would you have liked to see me have ? My plan was to make it a roller with the brake drum puller and 4 rollers i brought. Then use the truck and tow it out of there as i was told it probably wasn't trailer accessible. In the end I got it out and actually in a timely manner.

I enjoy every rescue. Quite surprising was a portion of the "wrong address" section at the end. From 25: 04 to 25: 12 is a view of the garage (with an American Flag) of a newer house looking at Candlewood Lake. I know that house, because I am the architect. I saw the trim on the relict vehicle left behind. I think you were clever enough to bring it with you. As it was not there anymore when you drove off. I have a question: Honestly is there anything on this vehicle you can still use? Maybe the roof or the rearwindow frame? I can see it mainly as yardart though. People are shaking their head as I have half an Austin A30 beside my house. They think I am braindamaged or something. I even had this car painted (in Wallace and Gromit paint) and braced it together with steel, wood and aluminium. But after ten years sitting outside it looks like shit again. I even had the headlights turn on with motion sensors and a car battery when you got near it. But now that is not working anymore neighter. I just do not have the heart to scrap it.

The steering-wheel in the second one was in better shape! I'd gather up every scrap there, just for parts. Oh man, not a lot of meat left on those bones, is there? XD Ah well, parts is parts! Right? Some of the steel engine parts might be savable, they often get saved by the case corroding away sacrificial-like.
