Worst Car I've Ever Bought Found Sitting 38 Years

This is my last car rescue, forgotten since 1985, sitting for 38 years. Let's pull this 1968 Vw Beetle from it's grave and see what surprises are inside.

Hope the ‘68 came free with buying the ‘56? She’s a heap! Love how all the parts just fell out with the rusted floors. That wasn’t a rescue; that was an exhumation! Have a heart and drop it into the Connecticut River!

That is a very unmolested, original 1968 engine. Throttle positioner/altitude corrector in place. Short coil, 205M SVA distributor with dark brown cap. Correct square top fuel pump. Generator pulley is right. Warm air hose connected via the stove pipe. The bowden cable is connected to the oil bath warm air flap? Wow.. super rare! The rest of that bug make me think- "ashes to ashes, dust to dust"... :) A cool video would be to see if you can get the engine unstuck and running if the case isn't rotten on the bottom. :)

Minor point, the Corvair is pronounced "green briar" not green breer. They were really odd vehicles. My uncle had one that same color in perfect condition. Rode better than the VW bus I had.

I love this channel and the rescues. It's 40 years ago this month that I found an old guy with a collection of dead Volkswagens. I eventually got given a 1962 Beetle, Left hand drive and imported to the UK in 1965. I eventually gave it away again and it became a Porsche 356 Speedster replica. Nostalgia!

Ooh, the van is a Corvair? Mid-engine six-cylinder? I'm with Dubwerks, I'd take the van too! XD The archeology (car-cheology?) is my favorite part of poking around in wrecking yards, never know what you'll find!

Corvan 95 is rear engine, just like the VW bus, but a 6 banger. This is a 61 or 62 so might only be 85 Hp. The later ones were 110 Hp.

Lots of times it's not the whole car, but having all of those stupid small parts on hand is like a custom hardware store for vintage trinkets. It's all about that weird screw or a hunk of wiring harness you need for another vehicle.

I wasn't feeling too hot prior and luckily Dubwerks ended up coming ....yes dragging post 67 rot boxes home just doesn't have the same feel as pre 68 rot boxes lol

Really hope somebody will rescue that Greenbrier and restore it. Yeah, I know, big money pit, but they are such classic vans and not many still around. The ride on them was phenomenal for their time.

That Greenbrier is a 61 or 62. I have the panel van version in my garage as a daily driver in nice weather. BTW, I am about an hour's drive from this guy in lower Ct

Jason, and Robbie, I bought my first new car in May of 1968. A blue VW bug. Through the morning, in 1971, I totaled it against a concrete utility pole, leaving nothing intact on the bad side of a line extending from the left headlight to the right taillight, I thought I had never seen a VW in as bad a shape as mine. I was wrong. Even though mine was totaled and, no doubt turned into Fords, or Chevys, down the line, I think, even in today's money it had greater salvage vale than your rescue. I wish you all the luck you can use. I totally enjoy watching you wrench on cars.

Buddy and I pulled 2 69 bugs out of a farm here in Iowa this last winter. A green coupe and a red convertible they'd been sitting since sometime in the 90s surprisingly both weren't locked up. But man let me tell ya the convertible looks just as bad haha good vid gotta save what ya can.

That Corvair van is a 61 or 62. Based on what I saw, somebody was looking for the heater box or maybe the transmission. Trany is the same as the car, but the heater box is like looking for hen's teeth if you need one. (yes, I needed one a few years ago)
