Step by step TUTORIAL about propagating carpeting plants for aquascape, it's my method to spread them with minimal costs with recicled materials.
Aquascaping demands a lot of aquatic plants. Some of my favourite ones are the carpeting plants.
Aquarium plants are expensive, and not easy to propagate, especially the carpeting plants like HC cuba (dwarf baby tears) eleocaris parvula and Monte Carlo.

First 3 weeks the growth is minimal. They just adapt and form roots. That's normal, just have some patience and next 3 weeks the growth will be explosive! Don't worry if the growth is too slow at the beggining. Also try to keep a balance between watering and ventilation. Don't use to much water at once but rather more ofeten! Good luck everyone!

If the mould dose form you can save the plants if you quikly plant them beacause mould will die in the fish tank...

Carpeting plants are somehow dificult to propagate, stem plants and other aren't as hard to propagate directly in the tank but the method will work if you select taller containers. I would recomand a much diferent method for stems emerse propagation, but that's just a great ideea for a future video so big thanks to you! 😍 Somehing like a super, shallow tank with 1-2 cm water level, just enough for the plants to have time to adapt from diferent forms but not much water so they will not melt before reaching the unlimited co2. Some friends are doing that and works like a charm. I will do it as well soon as i have time now that you mentioned😊

Great! I must try that. I wonder if you have tried putting springtails in to clear mould? as the plants aren't submerged, I wonder if that might be possible

Hmm i have 0 experience with terrarium and springrails. Might work well to prevent but that mould killed my hc in less then 48 hours... Last time i checked out it was the best looking tray 🥲 When i noticed was to late add them in. But if you notice in time you can rush the planting as well. In water the mould would die...

random question... how do you store old, used aquarium soil so it does not lose its beneficial bacterias? Does it need to be kept wet? I plan to change out all the soil and substrate in my current tank in about a month or so and I want to keep it for future uses like this propagation method. Thankyou for your very informative videos!
@FZAquascapeIdeas
@FZAquascapeIdeas 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunatly i think even wet loses most of the bacteria unless there are fish and plants to provide enough oganic mater. They also need some oxigen as well. I keep it in some nice pots for ponds made by Oase directly in aquariums. Not all my tanks are aquascape so when i take down a scape i save some soil in my farm tank and even some plants for my next poject. But that farm tank looks like crap. You can try to keep it in a plastic container with some water but i cant know for sure about the bacteria survival. Probably you will save at least a few colonies. Also dont recicle too much the soil try to keep it a maximum of 2 year and don't brake the grains. If the grains break up too much they release a lot of amonia in next setup and the start of the tank will be problematic with a lot of melting and algae issues. But for propagation of plants should be good cuz there isent much water to get alge. Just avoid it for rescaping or cap it with some fresh soil.

i suggest spraying the mold with hydrogen peroxide. maybe spray as a preventative as well. try on one tray before you do all.

@@bobs5596 yeah but monte carlo and hc cuba are way more sensitive. We use peroxide to kill some algae on aquatic plants and only hard leaves plants like anubias, bucephalandra, java fern aren't afected if we use 3% peroxide. Maybe diluted with water cand work...

Just like nursery plants needs to adapt. I do a lot of water changes, add plenty of co2 and they havent melted. You also need a well establised tank, a stable one but i find plants grown this well to melt less and outlive the ones in vitro from Tropica...

If the light is strong enough will penentrate anyway. Try to use less water and don't place it in a warm enviroment to reduce the fog from forming... Or use some transparent food foil instead of the lid.
