Wow. I was amazed when I saw you blend up the moss! Is this similar to how tissue cultures are made commercially? I just discovered your channel and it looks interesting. I really don't have room for a tank now (kids take priority), but I'll be moving after the summer, so I'm taking lots of notes. I've been out of the hobby for about 35 years and can't wait to get back. Some things have changed a lot, some are just the same. 😁

Great timing! I was gathering materials after watching Aquarium Plant Lab and looking for a Maxigrow replacement. Thanks for showing you're using Masterline products-they're available in my country. Thanks again!
@FZAquascapeIdeas6 ай бұрын
Thank you also. Maxigrow might be much cheaper but MasterLine are amazing ferts for aquarium as well. No point in having so many types of ferts... His trays are way better then mine tho...
@RetraNature6 ай бұрын
@@FZAquascapeIdeas Yes, I have that size. He uses a 10-inch by 20-inch tray. You can search for "1020" tray and dome. By the way, your DIY with the mesh is pretty good. Maxigrow is a dry fertilizer that you need to mix yourself, but I think Masterline is better. Both have lower phosphorus (P) compared to nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) levels.

@@RetraNature yes and ML also provide some micro as well. But the strange thing is about 1 year ago i tried out to propagate moss in cups from in vitro plants. And used only plain water, no ferts and it still grew quite fast. (Was just floating them in my tanks for light) I think for the 10/20 trays he put some links as well but for now i have 6 10x15 and it's enough for me. And for monte carlo / hc cuba i dont need the mesh tray cuz i have to use some soil on the bottom...

Hi! I also have a similar flame moss farm, you have grown very very lush moss, congratz! Question: I see in your flame moss tray a darker patch, do you know what is that? Because I also get dark brown/green stuff on some parts of my moss and I have seen it affects growth😢,... If you do know, how can we prevent it?
@FZAquascapeIdeasАй бұрын
I think is temperaure related. During the summertime i've drop out this farms project. Also an important thing in my opinion is to alternate the emese submerse growth, and when you harvest a crop not to replant it dry but rather to sink it. With the mesh i use i can just sink the whole thing and after it grows 1-2 cm (1 inch) I give a big trim and use the trimmings for another seedlings tray. In the summer i've got problems with carpeting plants as well, a lot of meltings
@brayn198929 күн бұрын
@FZAquascapeIdeas Thank you for making time to answer my question! Nice advice, I will try it out. What I have done to help control it is: Trim all the clean parts and propagate them in another tray, and the darker parts I wash it down with a strong stream of water, the flame moss will cling on to the mesh, after cleaning it all out, I try to brush the moss with toothpicks so they stand straight. The moss starts growing again very well after the proceess, the only downside is that it delays the growth cycle like 2 weeks. But at the end you will have a healthier moss carpet. Thanks again for your useful tips!

humm I am gonna have to try this. I mostly do saltwater tanks but i love moss and want to do an aquascape or two focusing on moss. i'll need a lot of it. what type do you suggest for beginer moss growers and scapers?
@FZAquascapeIdeas3 ай бұрын
Depending on what you have in plan. But you can also try a dry start method. You besically put some moss in the blander and then with a brush you apply the blended moss on the hardscape, you cover it with a food foil and spray water daily for about a month. Then you can flood the tank and plant the rest of the scape with stem plants, and whatever you want. Or you can try my method if you have enough time to plan ahead and propagate your moss first. Best of luck with fresh water as well!

Hi I got a question, can I just buy 1 box of moss to start this project, and the moss will propagate as many times as i want, as long as I cut them into small pieces and replant them in new trays? Or will they stop propagate at a certain time and just die off and I have to buy new moss to restart again?
@FZAquascapeIdeas3 ай бұрын
You can start directly if you buy a box of moss but if it is in vitro (gel) you need to rinse it very well. After you fill up a tray i would recomend you to sink it in your tank if you delay too much and you try to spred it more and more it tends to turn black and ugly. Stil viable but not pleasent looking...
