I met Kossoff down a club with a friend, and they we're chatting about starting up a group. Not too long, and Free appeared. We went to most of their gigs. Kossoff had a flat in Covent Garden above a fish & chip shop. Great days!!

I was fourteen when I found these guys and this music. Is it any wonder we all grew up far too quickly?

This takes some serious guts, to pour your heart out with just three instrumentalists and an amazing singer in front of a few hundred thousand people.. timeless class.

I'm that dot on the right. Free were a highlight of the festival - and the genius of Koss is too often forgotten.

Really pure ...pure tone. Simple drum kit. Lots of room for the music to breathe. That's the beauty of 3 instruments...done right.

Sounds as good listening to this today as it did listening to it in the 70s with my hippie boyfriend. Fantastic band. Great memories.

Great band. I love the easy rolling and super tight feel, just fantastic now as it was then.

Pure soul. Less is more. In rock circles truly unique. Rooted in blues and years ahead of the funk era, these four maestro individuals at a very young age showed emotion, musical showmanship and a unique concept rooted in blues and soul. By 1970 rock was still in its embryo phase. Singer songwriter was the leading mainstream influence when this happened. The Free represented all these influences magnificently. Minor chords ballads, New Orleans funk. Blues riffing as at Stax by Albert King. Unmatched since.

I wish I'd had the chance to see these guys perform live, they were just so good. My sister, being a couple of years older, did . . . :)

When you see these guys live, and I have several times, what hits you first before they play anything, is how skinny Paul Rodgers is.

These guys were barely into their 20s when they recorded this. Think on that.

Paul Rodgers was 20, Paul Kossoff 19, and Andy Fraser had only recently turned 18 when Free played the IoWF. The old fart of the band was Simon Kirke who'd recently turned 21.

@@mifune9634 That makes it even more impressive although I knew Andy was really young I believe he played with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers when he was only 15.
