I saw him in Vancouver in early 70s. He opened for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple . I knew his song Bullfrog Blues. I hollered for it several times but he didn't play it till the last song after two ovations. He said "this is for the guy up there and pointed to me." Made my night when he played a blistering version and got a magnificent send off from the crowd. RIP Mr Gallagher.

Lot of musicians in bands at this time were very young, for example in "Free" guitarist and bass player were under 18 and the others under 20 I think- but Rory began to play with "The Fontana "at 15 too. It 's something we can't imagine today. There are young girls and boys music players on videos and tiktok perhaps but not on real stages

All appreciation and respect to Rory, but REAL bluesman he was not. That's the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Son House etc. Rory was a friend of and appreciated the blues. Bluesman, no. Guitar shredders are not bluesmen. Blues is a lot deeper than just the guitar. You need to learn your blues a bit better.

I picked up a bunch of the recent Gallagher deluxe album reissues, 2 CDs each, one of them one of the guys in his later band, I think Gerry, said he also had a Fender Champ or something that he used in the studio sometimes, mainly on the first Rory album, and he couldn't believe the sound Rory got out of even this little Fender amp! But of course the Vox AC30 with TB was his main rig for years.

I saw Taste at the Marquee in early 1969 as a 13 year old and remember standing there thrilled to the core. Decades later I saw Rory at the Roxy on Sunset Strip and he was nice enough to allow a drunk, barefoot, top hat-wearing and feeble Slash to “jam” during the encore. It was not an experience I imagine the millionaire rock star cares to remember!

So underrated it hurts. A lot of people claim they have never heard of him, which I find astonishing. Many guitar greats, Hendrix, Blackmore, May, Page, Clapton all hold him in such high esteem. Blackmore called him the most natural guitarist he'd ever seen and when asked about what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist, Hendrix said 'I don't know, you had better ask Rory Gallagher'...Praise indeed. Been listening to Rory since the late 1970's and was privileged to see him live in concert, Copenhagen in 1987. Precious talent.

Brian May stated that Rory Gallagher is the person who turned him onto and the reason why he's played Vox AC30 combo amps throughout Brian's legendary career. We can almost thank Rory for helping Brian find his iconic tone and being such an influence on Brian as a guitarist, who in turn influenced thousands of guitarists over the years himself. Saw him in Houston - I think it was the '74 tour. Played like a manic madman for 2 1/2 hours. The 70's had a lot of amazing live shows from great bands. That concert sticks out in my memory. He lived and breathed the blues. Such unbridled passion. I've never understood why he doesn't top the list when people talk about blues legends. He should be in the same list as Hendrix, Page, etc.. Those Irish guys - Gallagher and Moore - monster guitarists. R.I.P.

I saw Rory in 1980 in Marseille France, Eliot Murphy made the first part of the show. He began with the son titled follow me... it was unbelievable !

Got to see Rory in 92 in Dublin - he was still rocking that beat up strat. I love his records, played them until they wore out, but that live experience is raw and unforgettable.

Taste headlined the Inverness Festival of Blues & Progressive Music in the same year. A photograph of me throwing a peace sign in the air while Rory was playing appeared in the national press the following Monday but edited so that it looked as if I was totally naked. Another blues band were second top of the bill, Savoy Brown.

There isn't an awful lot of footage of Taste in their prime. Thankfully we have this gem. Memories of many happy times watching them at Mothers Club, Erdington.
