I saw him in Vancouver in early 70s. He opened for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple . I knew his song Bullfrog Blues. I hollered for it several times but he didn't play it till the last song after two ovations. He said "this is for the guy up there and pointed to me." Made my night when he played a blistering version and got a magnificent send off from the crowd. RIP Mr Gallagher.

Tom I saw him too but in 87' but to see him with Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple holy shit!!! He was such a rare guitarist who didn't want to sell out and wanted to keep it real!! He's sorely missed To think Jimi Hendrix was on this gig maybe not this nite but he passed away a week later!!! Wonder what he thought of Rory?

He was the meanest cleanest blues rock player I've ever heard. Great singer songwriter. Never hit a bum note, improvised at will, responded to the audience energy, a superb showman, magician, & a very kind gentle egoless human being, proud Christian & real Irishman. RIP Rory Gallagher - may the road rise up to meet you.

Lot of musicians in bands at this time were very young, for example in "Free" guitarist and bass player were under 18 and the others under 20 I think- but Rory began to play with "The Fontana "at 15 too. It 's something we can't imagine today. There are young girls and boys music players on videos and tiktok perhaps but not on real stages

All appreciation and respect to Rory, but REAL bluesman he was not. That's the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Son House etc. Rory was a friend of and appreciated the blues. Bluesman, no. Guitar shredders are not bluesmen. Blues is a lot deeper than just the guitar. You need to learn your blues a bit better.

So underrated it hurts. A lot of people claim they have never heard of him, which I find astonishing. Many guitar greats, Hendrix, Blackmore, May, Page, Clapton all hold him in such high esteem. Blackmore called him the most natural guitarist he'd ever seen and when asked about what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist, Hendrix said 'I don't know, you had better ask Rory Gallagher'...Praise indeed. Been listening to Rory since the late 1970's and was privileged to see him live in concert, Copenhagen in 1987. Precious talent.

@@Qixo_ Srv tried to hard to sound like a super technical and more bluesy Hendrix. Rory had his own distinct sound and skills that of the strat masters I think only Blackmore could Rival him

On a scale of 1 to 10, this is an 11. I had the album since the early 70's and still have it, but I've never seen footage of them actually playing this song. Good grief, these guys rocked.

@tp10488 On a scale of 1-10, this is boring. It's just late 60's/early70's blues rock noodling. If that's you're thing then this is great. If not, then it's boring.

This is heart & soul, what a freaking talent! They don't need stupid dancers, lame big screens nor a thousand sorry asses light bulbs hanging down the cieling to drag you to their mood or keep you interested. Rory's the best.

That's what I admired in him. He didn't have a pretentious bone in his body. Came on wearing working man cloths, plugged into a club amp and rocked out. He was the real deal.

Stunned. I've been a fan for a long time, but not as early as I would wish. Have a taste album, but live, the intensity is MAXIMUM!. Now I feel it would changed my life if I'd seen him back in the day, when I was 14.

the amount of good/great rock/bands/rock guitarists of this era is astounding - the proof is so many never made it commercially while many others did, so it wasn't for lack of recording contracts, just so much great music, much got lost in the greatness/popularity of others.

Taste was a reel super group. I've never seen them playing live. But I was lucky when my cousins got me a ticket for the only Rory Gallagher's concert, mid seventies, in Oporto, Portugal. What a fine guitar player, both acoustic and electric.

Brian May stated that Rory Gallagher is the person who turned him onto and the reason why he's played Vox AC30 combo amps throughout Brian's legendary career. We can almost thank Rory for helping Brian find his iconic tone and being such an influence on Brian as a guitarist, who in turn influenced thousands of guitarists over the years himself. I feel like Rory doesn't get the recognition he deserves, and I only discovered him and became a fan of him through Brian May, constantly talking about Rory over the years.❤🎸🇮🇪🍀

Saw him in Houston - I think it was the '74 tour. Played like a manic madman for 2 1/2 hours. The 70's had a lot of amazing live shows from great bands. That concert sticks out in my memory. He lived and breathed the blues. Such unbridled passion. I've never understood why he doesn't top the list when people talk about blues legends. He should be in the same list as Hendrix, Page, etc.. Those Irish guys - Gallagher and Moore - monster guitarists. R.I.P.

Taste headlined the Inverness Festival of Blues & Progressive Music in the same year. A photograph of me throwing a peace sign in the air while Rory was playing appeared in the national press the following Monday but edited so that it looked as if I was totally naked. Another blues band were second top of the bill, Savoy Brown.
