Great spot! I’m taking off in Feb to truck camp in the Mojave Desert and make my way down towards the Salton Sea and maybe Yuma. Going to stay here for sure! Loved the old prison. Thank you for sharing!

Magnificent Desolation! Watching your video reminds me of 3:10 to Yuma. Great movie. Thanks for the tour around your camp site.

I thought so to. Loved the openness about it, could see for miles. LOL I thought about 3:10 to Yuma video several times while I was there also. LOL I need to rewatch it.

Cool old jail! Fun to see you jump being surprised! The train was really cool to see off in the distance! Seem's like it would be super quiet for sleeping... Thanks again Mark man!

That looks like a great campsite to spend a little time. We agree that dispersed camping beats an RV park any day. Being a retired LEO, old prisons and jails are always interesting to me. I can’t imagine being imprisoned in place like that or tasked with guarding prisoners there. Times sure were different back then. Thanks for showing us around. Stay safe and keep the great content coming!

I agree. Especially without heating or air conditioning or plumbing. LOL I'm spoiled.

It's great hiking in the remote desert this time of year... no rattle snakes and beautiful weather. I was out hiking in Joshua Tree NP and the Mojave a few weeks ago, amazing hiking in that entire region.

Yeah, the desert is awesome this time of year. I'll be making my way to Joshua Tree NP soon. Can't wait to check it out.

Another good spot. Currently parked up in NM making my way to Yuma eventually. I plan on riding the Apache trail outside of Phoenix on my way through, check it out on the dual sport

Love this road! Walked up the hill to get a peek at the mining operation. It’s a big active mine. Worth noting is the close proximity of the town of Los Algodones in Mexico. A great place to go if you’re in need of prescription glasses or dental work at a fraction of the cost in the US.
@DispersedCamperMan13 сағат бұрын
Yeah, the mine is huge and active. I need to get my passport/card.

Out of all of my boondocking spots on my trip out west last winter, the Ogilby Road area was by FAR my favorite. Great cell service, close to Yuma (and cheaper gas), and great climate in the winter. Highly recommend it to anyone to try out! Pilot Knob mountain nearby right off of the interstate was a great day hike as well. When you get to the top and look south, you can see the border wall and a great view of Los Algodones.

Very cool! I'll keep Pilot Knob Mountain in mind next time I'm out that way.

You should space out your solar panels better so they don’t shade each other. In the video your 2 big orange solar panels have shading from the trees or the panel in front. Partial shading drops the output of these panels by 80%. If you have these panels in parallel or series, the voltage drop brings down the whole system. The dust doesn’t matter so much, but the shading is robbing you of power.
@DispersedCamperManСағат бұрын
You are correct about my panels. If you also notice, the cables connecting them were maxed out. The way I parked I couldn't get them to the front of the truck away from the tree to get max sun. None of my ground panels are connected to my onboard lithium batteries. They are connected to my 2k watt jackery, it's what I have my starlink plugged into. I was getting over 400 watts solar, plenty to keep my jackery charged. My 600 watt panels mounted on my roof charges my onboard system.

You should try going another 3 to 4 miles up the Ogleby Road to the old mining town of Tumco. I’m there right now and there’s nobody here and a lot to explore.
@DispersedCamperManСағат бұрын
I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm in that area. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is the cargo trailer working out good? Even with other campers around it's still better than staying in town. Alot better view.
@DispersedCamperMan16 сағат бұрын
Trailers working great as expected. BLM land is much better than an RV park for sure.

Why did you decide to camp so close to the road with so many options available?
@DispersedCamperManСағат бұрын
I was a fair distance from the main road. The spot I really wanted was already taken. I liked the back drop of the mountains where I was at.

Has your e-bike over heated again ?
@DispersedCamperMan15 сағат бұрын
Yes. One other time. It only over heats if I'm going up hill for a long time. If I take the controller out of the black plastic box, it stops over heating. The holes I drilled in it helps.
