Hi Barry! The heavy fishing gear is for fishing cod. The shape gives it very low resistance in the water when you are supposed to move it up and down a meter or so close to the sea bottom (imitating herring). The weight can be up to a kilo in order to reach the bottom if it is strong current and deep sea fishing. Hope to see allot more of your adventures here on youtube!! Keep up the good work!! / Nick

If you have a fishfinder and the cod is spoted on 30 meter you will not catch and hook it at the botom at 80. It will hook the fish where it is. But sometimes I see on my Humminbird fishfinder that cod rocketing up from 70 meters and hunting the jig on 30 meters. All i 8 sec.

Barry, The "Nunchaku" fishing gear is called Pilk. Not sure if that is what they call it in UK.. Anyway, you use it when you are stationary in your boat and just drop it to the bottom and then wind it up a bit and go up and down once in a while and also have it just hanging. This is how Cod is often being fished since it often is lurking around the bottom where there is a cliff etc. Fair winds

I suspect you will find those big chromed lumps of metal are known as 'plugs' in fishing circles Barry. Lures of that size are normally intended to be trolled for pelagic species like Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna. In the unwise event that you might entertain the idea of using the big plugs I suggest doing so with Shaddy shifting her stern as fast as she can go. The lures feature such massive construction so that when a vessel is travelling at a specific speed they move through the water in a particular way at a predetermined depth. You would undoubtedly also catch highly opportunistic and edible species like Dorado and inedible ones like Barracuda. But you should be prepared for much bigger stuff or be resigned to eventually losing your tackle. The latter scenario is undesirable because if you lose tackle, you are likely to leave a fish with a lure painfully imbedded in it's mouth, gills or throat. Unnecessary suffering aside, a lost lure can affect a fish's health by impeding it's feeding so every effort should be made to land a fish and remove the hook. Accomplished big game anglers use meticulously maintained and serviced reels that are built like the winch drum on a bulldozer so they can, and do contain more than a thousand yards of heavy line. The tackle is worth thousands of dollars and big game anglers use it while equipped with a special harness which is attached to both the reel mount and a specialised chair that is heavily bolted to the deck of a boat. Fighting a big game fish in this manner can take more than an hour and is an extremely strenuous activity. Big game fishing is essentially a rich man's sport these days although groups of enthusiasts who cannot afford to own or hire a boat individually do so on a collective basis. For someone with no experience at all and virtually no tackle save the requisite lures, I recommend you do not try it. But if you do decide to give it a go I suggest you use the heaviest line you can get your hands on with an equally heavy steel trace attaching lure to line. Use at least one swivel of equally robust construction and attach the whole shebang to your stern using an inner tube or very, strong rubber strap to absorb the initial shock of the fish striking the bait. It is important that you understand you still need to have your line secured to the stern above the 'shock absorber' which simply attaches to stern and line form a loop in the line still attached to the stern above it. Although I have never tried this unsporting method as I feel no desire to ruin its day for a game fish. The latter technique is one I have observed some maniacs employ successfully in Darwin with species like Queenfish. If you do hook something really big such as a Marlin or Bluefin Tuna behind your yacht, simply tow it like you would a dinghy in the hope it will exhaust itself struggling before it gets off or smashes your tackle. If you succeed at that you might, be able to haul it alongside and retrieve your lure. You may have watched the episode of Gone With the Wynn's where Jason landed a smallish juvenile Marlin which probably weighed in at about twenty or thirty kilo's on light tackle? Try and envision a similar fish or possibly a Sailfish literally four or five times as big and possibly even more. The current world record for Marlin caught on game tackle is held by Melanie Kisbee of Australia who caught a 452kg (996lbs) blue marlin off Batemans Bay in New South Wales in 1999. Just for general reference in case you are interested Barry big, wild caught Bluefin Tuna fetch eye watering prices in Japan. Some fish occasionally fetch six figure sums and prices have been known to go even higher at auction! For example a 612lb bluefin Tuna sold for a record $3m at the first Tokyo fish auction of the 2019 season. It isn't difficult to see why tuna is such a phenomenally expensive species to buy in Japanese 'sushi' bars. If you factor in about thirty pounds for presumably inedible bits, the latter price equates to $5,172 per pound wholesale!

Great score with the wind turbine. When it's not sunny it's usually windy and vice versa. Solar and wind seem like a really good combination. Might consider painting a bit of bright colour on the tips of the blades so that when spinning rapidly against a bleak sky the tips will still be visible. I'd hate for you to be checking out the solar panels and get clipped by the blades. Also, it's difficult to tell in the video but that mounting pole looks like it was made for a much smaller blade length. In some of the shots it looks like the blades will come very close to contacting the bend in the mount as the main unit changes direction. In very high winds the blades will flex a bit so there needs to be a lot of clearance. When you do find a stainless welder then it might be worth redoing the mount to add some bracing and if the bend needs to stay in the pole then maybe lengthening the top bit slightly to keep the blades away from the bend.

The best fishing at sea is to use the up & down method, a surface lure and a deep lure to fish multiple levels. If you don't have a wire line pole to get to the deeper water column, a heavy lure or a lure with a trolling weight a decent ways from the lure works.

The heavy lures are pilks (tube pilks in this case) which you can fasten in the end of a fishing line and find a good spot where the sea botom is steep , or att least very inclined. Best fishing is on 70-120 meters (200-300') depth but generally you can use this method from 20-200 (60-350') meters of depth. Lower the pilk down until you find bottom. Then raise the lure about a meter (3'). Then adjust the brake on the reel until it's just about can take the wight of the pilk when you maneuver it up and down with your rod. The procedure takes only some seconds and now you are set to go. Than lift and drop the pilk (not necessarily fast, or very slow) but so the shiny metal wiggles and the light reflections attracts fishes around. You will figure it out in a while. If you use braided line and there are sharp objects like corals or sedimental rocks I recommend to put some foot or two of a leader between the fishing line. The leader can be of steel or a heavy monofilament nylon line. This method is used in northern Atlantic along the Norwegian coastline and is very effective. I've tried it in the Bahamas and it works just as well. Some call it jigging (and the lures jigs) but that is something else and includes a lot of rubber and a different fishing technique then pilking.
@SveinMBortne6 жыл бұрын
It works in all depths. They are designed for fishing cod. If the cod is angry or hungry…. you have it. Best result in sunrise or when the sun sets down.
@MiQBohlin6 жыл бұрын
Yes, and sometimes you just hook cods in a fin when they are to close to each other around the pilk 😉 Especially in northern Norway. Once I caught a 12 kg cod hooked in an eyebrow… outside of Leka.
@moejaime26546 жыл бұрын
Ok great explanation ; but what can you catch with this lure ?
@MiQBohlin6 жыл бұрын
Of course you actually can get a lot more spices then listed down, but so far I’ve caught: Atlantic Cod (Gadus morhua), Coalfish (Pollachius virens), Atlantic pollock (Pollachius virens), Common Ling (Molva molva), Rose fish (Sebastes norvegicus), Barracuda (Esox sphyraena), Whiting (Merlangius merlangus), Haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), Redspotted plaice (Pleuronectes platessa), Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus), Red hind (Epinephelus guttatus), Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus), Atlantic wolffish (Anarhichas lupus), Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) Cero (Scomberomorus regalis) Tarpon (Megalops atlanticus) etc. So, both small and big, high and low, stationery and pelagic fishes are attracted to the pilks.
