VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Welcome aboard! Join Bennie as she guides you through her cherished boat-a haven where practicality meets adventure. This tour explores every nook of her sailing home, which has traversed the Atlantic and now rests peacefully in a marina.
Kitchen (The Galley) Overview:
Material Love: The boat is adorned with mahogany planks from Honduras, chosen specifically for their resistance to mold compared to fiberglass or aluminum boats.
Cooking on the Waves: Equipped with a gimballed stove to keep meals steady despite the ocean's sway, and connected to a fiberglass propane tank for rust-free longevity.
Water Systems: Although currently hooked to marina amenities like shore power and fresh water, Bennie plans to install a water maker using reverse osmosis to provide clean drinking water when sea-bound.
Living Quarters:
Compact Luxury: The saloon doubles as a cozy living room with a convertible berth for guests, reflecting the dual functionality essential in tiny living spaces.
Favorite Feature: Bennie's favorite feature is surprisingly the gimballed stove in the galley-a cherished element that ensures a spill-free cooking experience, no matter the sea conditions.
Navigational Necessities:
Tech for the Sea: The boat is equipped with both modern navigation systems and traditional celestial navigation resources, ensuring safety and direction regardless of circumstances.
Power Solutions: A UPZ 600 watt power station backed by solar panels offers a sustainable energy solution, essential for long voyages and life off-grid.
Personal Reflections:
A Symbolic Sanctuary: For Bennie, the boat is more than a home; it's a symbol of his personal journey-reflecting battles with mental health and the ongoing project of self-renewal, much like the continuous maintenance the boat demands.
Community Connection: Emphasizing the importance of giving back, a portion of proceeds from his power station goes to communities without electricity, aligning with his values of support and sustainability.
Adventures and Aspirations:
Crossing Oceans: From the Canary Islands off Africa to the shores of the Bahamas, each nautical mile has been a testament to growth and adventure, reinforcing Bennie's love for the sea.
Therapeutic Ventures: Bennie envisions a future where therapy transcends traditional settings, utilizing the therapeutic nature of the ocean to aid others in their healing journeys.
Invitation to Follow:
Interested in more than just sailing? Join Bennie on her journey across both waves and life’s challenges. Follow his adventures on Instagram and KZbin at Bennie Meets World, and learn more about sustainable and adventurous living with The Lost Kid Crew.
Thank you for stepping aboard and sharing a piece of this vast, blue world with her. Here’s to smooth sailing and the endless pursuit of horizons!

Greetings from the west coast of Scotland, some people are just free spirits and time spent living on a boat just fits in with that perfectly.

There is nothing better than the boat life. I have lived 7 years in my 44-foot sailboat, north of the polar circle, Bodø and Tromsø in northern Norway .The winters uo here can be harsh, with 2 meters of snow and fierce winter storms. But wouldn't be without it

I didn't think you could live up there on a sailboat. Do you have to have a bubbler or something to keep the water open in winter? Living on a sailboat was a dream of mine - and doing it in Norway where my mom came from would have been pretty amazing!

@@janinafisher101 The boat was frozen in the harbor for several weeks during winter. But the boat doesn't seem to take any damage from it. It is important to keep + degrees inside the boat and especially around hull penetrations / hoses.

It is the funny thing about sailing, that at first you might struggle with the movement, sickness, the work involved. But then that becomes the joyous part of sailing; the movement becomes calming, the work becomes rewarding, and getting off the boat becomes harder and harder.

I could see myself in a similar situation in the future. How long did it take you to restore the boat? And how much time have you spent over the past 25 years keeping it in its restored condition? I've been fascinated by old wood sailing yachts since I was a little kid but have heard it's basically a full-time job keeping them maintained.

Lived in Spain for some years..now back in Florida. Thought about returning live aboard options are the best, especially if one is not going to be overseas 12 months..perhaps 6 months. I thought about Canary Islands have been there many times (Lanz and Fuetevetura) taking my VW California on the ferry from Portugal. I would recommend the Algarve for slippage. Usually downtown with easy access to everything and secure. But, saling is a couples sport, so perhaps in the future. In the meantime, boating is excellent on the western coast of Florida down near Tampa. Be safe..the Atlantic can get very dangerous. Recommend following the Moroccan coast to Gilbalter. Safe travels..Randall

love your story, I have worked with Mahogany as a furniture maker, it's a very special timber, & I like the 'living on a sailing boat' idea, I did do some boat-type work (cray fish trawler) and I didn get off the deck for the whole trip duration I was that sick and have suffered really bad sea sickness when I've done boat fishing, way back, but still love the notion! I do love ginger!!! (apparent sea sick-ness remedy) It initially sounds cheap, the rent anyway, although an uncle of mine who did own and sail boats often said; boats a whole in the ocean of which you pour dollars!!! This comment knows my budget and for me to make real of this dream I would literally be swapping my land house (investment) for the boat life and I know also, as you say/point to adventure being extreemly beneficial, which too is an investment of a different nature! Regardless, I enjoyed your tale, thank you.

"A motor boat is about the destination. A Sail boat it's about the ride to the destination" - Me Land lubbers will never get it unless they try it ...after the sea sickness is the tell tail sign. You hit the nail on the head when you said .."Best sleep EVER" most people will never get to know this. To bad. I got to the point where i could go to sleep on land. Or on land if a pin dropped I was up !! My point ..True REM sleep on the water is incredible !!

It all looks lovely in an edited video, but living in boats, vehicles and RVs has its disadvantages too. I've done it. The headaches and expenses of constantly fixing and improving things and having to adapt to all the hundreds of inconveniences on a daily basis is a hassle that gets old quickly. When I was younger this was more appealing. Now as I'm older, not so much lol. But good for her for embracing adventure while she can. 👍
