I’ve been looking on the state forest website and all over the internet for answers to my questions about the camping on the Michaux State Forest and found nothing until I found your videos. Excellent and thorough. Specifically which sites are walk-in and which are motorized is a huge bit of information. Thank you!

Awesome video. I stay there a lot. I recommend camping in the back area. The front area you have a lot of day trippers with ATVs. Also Yes thats exactly what those things are, you drive you ATV up them and into the bed of your truck.

Thanks for the thorough videos on the campsites. We just stayed a night at #7 and wanted to warn everyone that the parking spot had a very steep incline. We tried to use our leveling blocks but they didnt help much. We boondock in our Promaster van as much as possible and found that site #6 was much better but was completely booked. They appear to be maxed out the limit for next few weeks leading up to Memorial Day.

You bet! Big rig friendly free camping isn't easy to find in the East and this additional green area was much more conducive to forest RV camping.

I hiked through here in the Appalachian Trail and once I hit that swampy boggy area my lungs opened up and all this inflammation just dissipated throughout my body. Only place I ever experienced that in my life, I don't know what was different about this specific place but it was the best I'd felt in years and since. Wanted to stay the night there but didn't know the rules so I kept on regrettably.

I found this video on Campendium. I see on there it says offroad vehicles needed. We have a 40ft class A. Your video seems to look like it would be okay. Is this true?
@LivingOurDreamNow3 жыл бұрын
The motorized campsites that I show in all four videos do not require an off-road vehicle. A passenger car could access each location. However, there are only 4 motorized camping areas that will accommodate a big rig. Each of the 4 videos in my video series on the Michaux State Forest showcases one of the big rig friendly motorized campsites. Visit our KZbin Channel to access the remaining videos. Lou

Can you please include some comments on pets? Are they allowed or are there restrictions. Thank you, Bob
@LivingOurDreamNow4 жыл бұрын
There are no restrictions on pets at the secluded walk-in campsites. Recommend dogs be on a leash at Campsite 1 and on any hiking trail.

im sorry,I am so confused. Do you park your camper in the parking lot and walk to your campground? Sorry to be so ignorant but this is something I am interested in, just learning. I have a small 21 foot TT. Thanks
@LivingOurDreamNow3 жыл бұрын
In this state forest, there are campsites that will accommodate your motorized vehicle at the campsite and others that provide walk-in tent camping. The videos I produce show you what you'll find at the campsite and where you'll park your camper or vehicle. Thanks for watching. Lou

Is there water available other than the two nearby state parks?
@LivingOurDreamNow3 жыл бұрын
I did not see a fresh water fill at any of these forest camping areas. The nearby state parks both had a dump station and fresh water fill.

I live next to Michaux, go riding Mountain bike there twice a week, getting ready to start my van life here. So I called the Ranger Station and I will paraphrase what they said with my input: Because the PA government shut down almost all the businesses during covid, the people lost their homes and needed a place to live, so they bought camping gear and moved to the mountains. And we couldn't have people living for free in the mountains they paid for, so there is no longer free camping. You now have to buy the permit, which I think she said was $10, and then there was another fee, and I calculated it all, with tax to be close to $20. When I am going past the Ranger Station I will stop in and find out for sure, but I was told there was no longer free camping.

Are the camping spot marked with numbers within each camping areas?
@LivingOurDreamNow3 жыл бұрын
The walk-in campsites shown in this video are numbered and marked accordingly. The large camping area that is big rig friendly shown in this video may accommodate a number of RV and the Michaux State Forest will limit the number of permits issued for location. There are no numbered sites in the big rig friendly camping area. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Lou

Do you refer this campsite No.1 as an independent site or camp site No 1 as a conglomerate of sites within No 1?? I myself refer a number of sites as a campground thus being campground No 1 verses site No 1....It appears campsite No1 is just a BIG open parking lot. Not a small pullin space.....say in the woods there. So....you will have a large number of units in that area. In other words long story short the wording is confusing. Site versus campground....To me I don,t like a BIG HUGE open area like that to camp in my idea is a nice private pull in spot amongst the trees. They have done it this way I assume, to do away with maintaining small Independant spots called sites up here. To get my meaning pull up a Provincial Park in Ontario Canada and you will see my meaning....for example ( Bon Echo Provincial Park ). AHHHHH....time stamp 21:12 is totally what I,m getting at !!!...and time stamp 21:48.....good tenting sites what I would be doing....Put your tent up right in the stand of trees....Time stamp area 23:07 is a lot better than first area you were in!!..Those wood lots are beautiful!!....what,s the most confusing about all this all those wood lots are NOT numbered that,s what throws you off. They should be numbered like 1a, 1b, 1c and so on. Case closed........LOL!!!!!!!!!
@LivingOurDreamNow10 ай бұрын
I just show you what I see - Michaux State Forest comes up with the numbering. The forest office knows how many campers to issue permits to for Campsite 1 so as to not exceed capacity. I've did an update on camping in the Pennsylvania Forest System as they implemented a daily fee subsequent to the recording of this video. Check our Pennsylvania Playlist for this update. Lou

Sucks that they list the sites as motorized in Michaux when they clearly aren’t like the rest of the state. Guess I’m camping on the road with no fire.

Take this video down as it's inaccurate. Camping is not FREE! It's $10 per night plus a reservation fee of $6.50 for PA residents and $15 for non residents. Thank you.
