Being a nube to networking I was all excited, especially when you kept repeating that this is super easy to understand. Then I got lost gradually through your video series. First lesson was easy, second was harder and it kept getting worse. I thought that I am retarded or something as I couldn't keep up. Now I realized that if I do not understand a video I keep watching, then I watch the next lesson and all of the sudden start understanding the former lesson. Very Good question. not explained in the video. network ID is to identify the network- at what network you currently are. the broadcast ID is something different- it should've been explained earlier. broadcast in an internet protocol-it transmits data and packets to the network. in simple words saying " i am here- i exist"

+mohammad arif Hey my friend, the great thing about youtube is that you can re-watch videos:. I will explain. He is referring to Private IP addressed. In class A, the private ones are from the range of 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255. Meaning 2^24* 1 (the "* 1" is because it stays in range 10) In class B, the private ones are from the range of 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255. Meaning 2^16 * 16 (the "*16" is the range from 16 to 31) In class C, the private one are form the range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255. Meaning 2^8 *255 (the "*255" because there are two 0s at the start of the first IP address Hope that helps

+mohammad arif,I see that arif commented something about your doubt. He is refering to how much private IP address. For example: Private Class C: (192.168.0.0)-(192.168.255.255) masc: 255.255.255.0 It's true, we got 254 host, but in general we have 256 IP including subnet and broadcast. Now, These IP address are inside only one subnetwork because we have 256 subnetwork in that range (192.168.0.0)-(192.168.255.0) In total we got 254*254=64516 The same way you can solve your doubt for private address in the subnet class B (172.16.0.0)-(172.31.255.255) masc: 255.255.0.0 You have 65534 hosts, but 65536 IP addresses You have 16 subnets. 65536*16= 1048576 At the end we get 1048576 IP address in total.

+Mod Mark Thanks for watching. Consider a classroom. The name of the classroom is the network id (name). Each of the student in the class has a name, it can be compared to the IP Address of each hosts. So everytime you say, this message is for mark (or one particular host represented by their IP Address), that gets delivered to only mark. But when you say "Everybody listen" before sending a message that is applicable to the whole class, the sending computer uses the Broadcast ID (to obviously broadcast to all the hosts in that network or classroom). The first example you borrow only 1 bit in the second example you borrow 2 bits. why?? How to identify on how many bits you need to borrow? #PleaseAnswerSomebody

The number of bits you borrow to create your subnets depends on the requirements. From a testing perspective, the test will give a number of hosts per network requirement and/or a number of networks requirement. From there, you will need to determine the number of bits to borrow to subnet your network. EXAMPLE: You are required to subnet 192.168.200.0/24 into multiple networks. Each network must support at least 24 hosts and you must segment the network into at least 3 networks. If you reference the chart Imran supplies, you will notice you need to borrow 2 bits to meet the minimum requirements (4 networks with 62 hosts per network). You could borrow 3 as well, but will have smaller networks with less room for additional hosts in the future (8 networks, 30 hosts per network). You have to pay attention to the wording on the exam.
