It's funny what some people will throw away. My family gathered at my sister and her husband's new to them house for Easter lunch and after we were done eating we were sitting out back talking. I looked down across their back yard which slopes down to a ditch and I saw something red in the bushes at the edge of that ditch . I asked my brother in law what that was and he said the last people left a rear tine tiller down there. I said, Oh really and then he said there is a riding mower down there too. I couldn't see it from where we were so I went on a mission to find it. I waded through the bushes and there was a GT235 John Deere mower with a 48 inch mower deck. I thought, Who would just shove this in the bushes. So now I am going to cut come bushes down and pull both of those out to see if we can get them going.

You have to set the key and push the button in the right spot and then you can do it in reverse

I have a cub cadet very similar to the one you have. Many things in common. As soon as you baked up and the mower deck stopped, I knew what happened. On mine, there's no way to back up and mow - forward only.

Turn the key back to the opposition one click push the button. The light light will come on and now it’s pro so you can mow and reverse.

Now you know why it was at the curb. A dealer would have $500 in the belt repair (both belts), new blades, and a full engine tune-up. Plus the guy needed an excuse to convince it was money-wise to simply buy a ZTR mower with a 60" deck. Hopefully, he got away from those Murry and MTD made mowers. Look at the Hustler mowers as they are made by Excel, that is now owned by Stanley Black & Decker so one can figure it will be going to China to be built line most of Stanley Black & Decker stuff is. As long as the Hustler is still being made in KS they should have the same Excel quality. We have put our Hustler Raptor HD through hell for 5 years and broke a couple of spindles and a few belts when sticks get up in the belt drives. I did say we put it through hell.

You may already be aware but excel started making hydro ztr mowers in the 60's probably the heaviest ztr you could buy for decades.

@@petepeeff5807 We beat the daylights out of ours. Every year I use it to push and mow the blackberry patch that keeps encroaching. I put a frame made of 1" square tubing on the front to help us old folk to have a handhold getting on and off. It also makes for a bush pusher back for getting the front under bushes to mow the grass. It also has a trailer hitch ball on the front for moving any of the trailers (not the big implement trailer) around the place. When we get snow in the winter deep enough to worry about getting our car or pickup to the road, we use the mower as a snow blower. Cuts the snow down to 2".

If you want that trans to last longer on those , you can remove it ,tip it up side down and drain the fluid out of the top vent cap hole,manual states it not serviceable,but you know now myself know better now,,they just want you to buy a new mower,and decided down to put a drain plug in it,,the casing allows one to be tapped in ,but tough torx decided not tto so to sell you a new one for 700.00 .its a tough torx hydro they put in those and i just replaced my trans oil 3rd time already as the mower is old as that one ,it seems to collect mousture from condisation ,,its still works find,,just make sure grass,mud pack and debis not packed laying on too of the hydro trans unit,,it ll heat it up and destroy the unit as theres a fan up there also blowing downward over the alum fins on the trans casting blowing above,keeping the unit cool. Important if you want to run it for years,, I replace mind with JD Hy Gaurd ,believe me or not, it's cheaper than transmission fluid at the corp profit auto parts stores

Unhook the switch aside of the seat,so to start it easier

Make sure you blow off the top of the trans,,you can also unhook that wire on the trans shifter as well underneath then you can mow backwards

That aint no Cub Cadet.... thats an MTD in Yellow paint.... the frame flexes and the belt jumps an or burns off.... brother has one and we cant keep drive belts on it for the deck

I think that lawn tractor was designed by stupid people. My 1991 Cub Cadet had a lot of stupid safty switches that country boys had broken and the machines still worked fine, including a 1’ long plastic grass shoot that wind rowed the grass in the yard so you had to modify that by removing that particular obstacle. Then you could properly get the 2 acres of grass mowed.👍🇺🇸✌🏻Only in America where all you can sue your way to wealth.
