QUICK CORRECTION: - Don't move the settings files. Edit them in the original folder, and they work. (Server)\VRisingServer_Data\StreamingAssets\Settings\ - Use 127.0.0.1 to connect to the server on your own PC. Your friends will use your external IP address. Note that you will need to host the server for a few minutes for it to appear on the list. In the meanwhile, Google for and let others use your public IP address.

Hello, after the game update yesterday, I am unable to find my server or get in. I also updated my dedicated server V Rising Dedicated Server from Steam but it wont show up in public neither can I join. Whats the issue? Before that...It was all fine. Me & my friends were playing fine as well.

I was scratching my head on why my persistent data folder settings weren't saving and now this makes perfect sense. Does the persistent data folder actually serve a real purpose at all? It doesn't really seem necessary to maintain anything with it.

@TheBvandersnatch Thanks for the reply dude! I figured it out though! it was not the server....it was my port forwarding IP address which sometimes would change when I closed my PC! so I need to set that again if it changes! ...thanks for the response tho ♥

Thank you, thank you, for this. You are the only person on the entire internet who addresses this. I found this tutorial very helpful. I created a dedicated server for my friend and I many months ago and today when we wanted to go back into the game after not playing for 3 months, he couldn't log on because neither of us remembered the damn password I set 3 months back, and neither of us could find it written down anywhere. I have no idea where or how my dedicated server is working as I never installed or created a dedicated V Rising server in the Steam tools. But I guess it's on my PC somewhere. I do have cloud saves for the game I can access though. Anyway after watching this video I installed the Steam tool for the the future in case we start a new server, and in doing so I stumbled onto the server settings for my last game save and found where my password listed and what it was. Happy days! Thanks again.

To anyone having problems, what fixed mine was also making sure that the Port & QueryPort in the default "ServerHostSettings" were also set to "Port:2015" & "QueryPort:2016" The server first launches off that then gets overridden if you have your own settings. Note, you see your own server twice others will not unless they are on the same network as you.

Just making things a bit clearer. If you set -persistent in .bat file the file the game will use are that in that folder. So if you remove that command line it will automatically use the one in LocalLow Folder by default.

SERVER SETTINGS solved- so no matter how I did the persistent path etc I could not change my server settings. I just changed the settings in the first directory he shows in the video where we copy them from. Don't bother copying them and just change them where he first shows us where they are.

What does your network look like? Is your PC connected directly to the router you set up port forwarding on?

Great guide. Just as many others I cant get mine to show up in the list. I spent the better part of 4-5 hours today trying to troubleshoot, I even went as far as to install it on a different computer that I specifically use as a server. No dice. Port forwarding doesnt seem to work in regards to this app, I am not sure why ... but it just will not work. I have forwarded the ports just like I forwarded everything else for my server. Tried just about everything I can think of... if anyone has a solution I would love to know what it is.

Having the same issues, I used to think it was maybe my router/firewall/isp that was somehow blocking it but for me I think it's what ServerHostSettings file are being used

Is it possible that a server has multiple Hosts ? I have a couple of friends whom I want to play with, now the issue is that I can't keep my PC online 24/7 in case they want to play without me. So I would like to know if there is a way that the server is "turned on" by anyone of those friends who comes online first.

@@gbricochetj i beileve you will need to run/update it through steam every time there is an update and if you use SteamCMD you will need to update it through the SteamCMD program with the command "app_update [gameID]"

Server is up, I can connect with my internal IPv4 address, my friends can't connect with my external IPv4 address, but the SteamP2P number works for them. Server is also not on the list. I can't connect to the server myself when I go to "Continue" on the main menu.

Everything works EXCEPT the server showing up on the public server list. Even with every steam port forwarded. Not sure if it is a bug with the game or what. Never had an issue forwarding ports this simple before. = /

HELP I set up the server as you explained, played for 2 weeks almost everyday. but haven't played for a couple of days now and wanted to play today. but the server is no longer using our saved files /games and wants us to make a new character. what went wrong my friends are not very happy with me. how can I get the saved games back or reattached or what ever it is called.

my cmd window closes itself and shuts down the server after about 20-30 seconds after launching the start server .bat file. any idea why this is happening? was working fine for a good few days, started having this issue that isn’t allowing me to run the dedicated server since rebooting my computerz

I have followed this guide like 5 times and still cant get it to work. It shows up in the Steam server list but i get a "Connection Timed Out" error. It's on a different PC than the one im playing the game on.

@snixee0516 gonna redo my reply since it seems to have been deleted(probably due to containg a link). I can't confirm that this resolved this specific issue, but I was having similar connection issues with my plex server and other games. My ISP had me behind double NAT. Essentially, my connection would have to go through both my router and my ISP, so portforwarding opened my NAT for my router but not the one via my ISP. I called them, and they fixed it for me, so you might could try seeing if you are behind the same thing. I was able to connect to my plex server and other games afterward. I did read that some ISPs might charge for doing this, so if it turns out to be your issue, I'd make sure before having them do it.

Hello. I think I'm doing something wrong. I was able to get my server up and running but I can't edit my server settings. I tried editing the notepad ServerHostSetting.Json that we put in the above directed but for some reason its not changing my server settings.

maybe cuz your override path was in settings directory. instead of root folder like showed on a video try placing files in .AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRisingServer\Settings (you'll need to create settings folder yourself)

So I figured out the issue. So I did have to put the settings folder in the vrisingserver folder. And instead of running the start.bat file I ran the actual Vrisingserver.exe

I've tried running a dedicated Server on my computer and it works partially. All my Server Settings work as intended. Connecting is an issue though. I can connect via my local LAN-ip + port but nobody can connect via my WAN-IP + Port, as shown when you are ingame and press ESC, not even myself. Port forwarding is set up and I cant tell what the issue is.. :c
