Beautiful work! Another way to make this potholder is to crochet using two strands of yarn. When you do that there is no need to crochet two and stitch together the two pieces.

I just finished my second of these after seeing how great the first one worked out. So nice and thick! For this one I used Hobby Lobby I love this cotton, which is a lighter #4 than the Lily sugar n creme I used on the first. I like the Hobby Lobby better for this pattern as the pad comes out thick enough for a hot pad, but also flexible enough to use as a pot holder. Very nice. And I love the cool stitch pattern. Thank you!

I struggled with row 2, trying to work in the bottom piece as you like to do. Girl, i was pulling my hair out. But, determination and an old 80 yr old stubborn brain would not let me QUIT. So here i am at row 4 and the small strip is lookin' pretty good. I bought the Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton from Hobby Lobby. So far i am enjoying working with it. I am usually crocheting with worsted weight, acrylic yarn. So, this cotton is a lot different. But, here goes another row or 30.

When sewing/crocheting the 2 pieces together it may be helpful for some crocheters to use a stitch marker or safety pin at the corners and middle to keep stitches lined up. It is less likely to get misaligned when sewing pieces together.

Hey Tiffany! Out of curiosity, why did you use a G hook (instead of recommended H?). Is it because the stitches should be tight? Just practicing now with H hook & wondering if I should go smaller like you?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
That is a great question and great recognition that typically we would use an H-hook. That is exactly it. I used the G hook because I wanted my stitches to be tighter, more dense, as to close any holes or gaps and protecting my hand from any potential contact I could have with the hot pan. 😊❤️🧶

If I don't have a G hook, could I do this with a larger hook like an I or H?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 10 ай бұрын
GREAT question!!! Yes, I would say an H hook would work fine. Moving up to an I hook might work but the stitches will be bigger and more roomy which could open up the possibility or exposure of something hot touching your skin. Just a thought. 😊❤️🧶

@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
That is a great question @nancole3180. Sometimes looking at the pattern can help. You will see what stitches are repeating themselves and then when you look at your work you can see, "oh, that is this stitch so next I have to do that stitch." If this is something you are struggling with it is perfectly ok to back up a little bit and focus on working basic stitches like single crochets only or Half Double crochets only for a little while until you get the hang of things. It is better to ease into it and love the process than jump right into making things and feel frustrations. 😊❤️🧶

Great question Kimberly! I would not. Cotton yarn is stronger, more durable, and reacts better to heat and water when needing to be cleaned than Acrylic/Synthetic or Wool based yarns. Hmm, thank you for sharing what you're having trouble with. Not seeing exactly what you are seeing, I wonder if you have tight stitches. In that case try to go up a crochet hook size. This might help to loosen things up. As for stitch placement, maybe try rotating your work so you can see the top of the row and all of the V's. You want to place your crochet hook under the whole V. See if that will help. Wishing you all the best!

@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 4 жыл бұрын
Hi TwistedRose! Hmm, I would try a different 100% cotton yarn. There are a couple different brands to choose from and some are more coarse than others. OR you could try combining and crochet both a scrubby yarn with a 100%cotton yarn and crochet them together which would help add some friction to your pot holder and make it less slippery. Great question! Thank you so much for asking. 😊🧡🧶

@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Hi Marlynn. That is a great question. I wouldn't for a couple reasons. Acrylic yarn does not hold up being washed as often as you will want to wash a pot holder. Also, acrylic yarn is often synthetic fibers and can melt under the high heat. Cotton yarn will be more durable. I hope this makes sense and helps your decision. 😊🧶🧡

oh bummer! Sorry it didn't work out for you. There are actually a couple different kinds of cotton yarns you can try. Maybe the kind you had just wasn't for you. I recommend cotton because the material is so thick and strong. If you really wanted to try something else you could use a size 4 acrylic yarn but I would probably add a liner in between the two sides before you crochet them together just to give you an added protection. I have watched this more times than I care to admit. In the beginning I am stuck on the two spaces over from hook for 1/2 double crochet then one space for slip stitch. I think I’m only doing one stitch over?

Hi Blank. Hmm, Try watching my Crunch Stitch tutorial to see if that might help. This pot holder is basically just 2 squares of the crunch stitch joined together. Here's a link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3m3q5yqnbqfoKs

You’re in Flower Mound? Super cool! I’m from Irving! I love this pattern, but mine is not coming out square in the end. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Angela! How cool! Hello neighbor 😄. Hmm, if yours is not turning out squarish by following the pattern that is ok. Eyeball it. If you want to add a few extra rows to get the shape you want then do it. Subtract a few rows. Do it. Make this yours. And then repeat what you did for the second one that way you can crochet them together and they match. I have noticed that some cotton yarns crochet differently than others even though they claim to be the same size. It's weird. Thanks for reaching out! 😊🧶🧡

In all the years I have been crocheting I have never used glue.

Hi Cynthia, yes, it's different, it's new, and it's just an option. There was a time that fabric glue was the only thing that really worked for me but since being on KZbin I have been introduced to many different techniques. But the fabric glue is a nice trick to keep in my pocket.

What happens if you use acrylic yarn? Does it have to be cotton?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. You Could use acrylic yarn and tight stitches with the double layer. But what I worry about is when you go to wash it. My experience with acrylic yarn is that is softens and relaxes which could result in less protection against the hot item. My experience with the cotton yarn for the pot holder is that it maintained form and structure. I have literally lit one on fire (accidentally). Causing an entire corner to be burned off and yet I still use that pot holder to this day. It just continues to hold structure and works great pulling anything out of the oven. I’m not saying Don’t use acrylic. I’m just saying this has been my experience. If you do make a pot holder out of acrylic let me know how it works out for you 😊.

Ahh hopefully you haven't tried it on anything! Acrylic is plastic so when subjected to high heat it can melt depending on the brand/stitch. Cotton yarn can be $1.77 for 90 yards, which should be more than enough for a potholder. Definitely worth the splurge!

Hi Mizlizzie! I've actually been asked this a couple different times. Honestly, It has just become a muscle memory for me at this point. I just go straight in position. Don't ever feel like you have to hold your hands the way that I do. I'm sure at some point I will need to play with other holds to help my hands. 😊🧡🧶

Good tutorial but your music goes so loud, that I had to constantly get up and turn it down, then I couldn't here you speak so I had to turn the volume back up.

Sorry about that. This was one of my first videos and I was just figuring things out. I learned pretty quickly to just avoid using music all together. 😊. Thanks for watching though! I hope you liked the project. 😊❤️🧶

No, Seriously! If you struggle with weaving in your ends this one very specific fabric glue is a lifesaver. But it has to be this one brand and this one type. None other. Don't knock it till you try it. Game changer. But really more so as a last resort, not an end all be all.

I don't like the way she teaches would not recommend it was very confusing as she doesn't show very well the hole you should put your crochet hook into. It was very confusing to me.
