Shadow Alolan Marowak is sooo underrated for this cup. With Frosslass everywhere is a great counter that has a lot of play into other ghosts, fire, and some normal types like vigoroth

I m using it with regular Kingdra, without fairies two dragons are just too broken

I've been using Haxorus, Kindra and Lanturn. I was going to use an Altaria but the game has been cruel and I haven't been able to get a decent one. But god damn, duel dragons with Lanturn has been such a destructive combination. I'm still learning all the nuances of pvp, but I swear they were free wins. Went 22 out of 25 wins.

And this is why it was good that they added Steel- and Fairy-type Pokémon, LOL. Nothing resists Dragon-type moves in Retro Cup, so I can't really say I enjoy this meta. But I don't have the Pokémon for open Master League, so Retro Cup it is.

Kingdra actually loses to Abomasnow in the 1-1 shield but you can always farm up energy then switch after. If you play against a person who throws WeatherBall the moment they get it, you can easily play around it by just switching Kingdra out on their second move and catching it because these peoples play style are extremely predictable. Ever seen Swampert spammers use H-Cannon after 5-4-5-4... Fast moves? You can just switch out to catch.

I’ve seen a lot of altarias in my sets running dragon pulse instead of dazzling gleam or moonblast which think people don’t expect and it took me by surprise

@@665-9 yeah I’ve got dazzling gleam on my altaria but don’t want to change as the elite TM is a waste on it 😂, for my last set I ran medicham froslass and shadow charizard, I went positive but I think it needs improving any recommendations

Dragon Pulse Is much more reliable in this meta because it does heavy neutral damage. Moonblast will do super against Dark/Fairy and other Dragons but 2 of those don't exist in this format. Moonblast = 110 DMG / 60 energy (10% chance to -1 attack) Dragon Pulse = 90 DMG / 60 energy. (with STAB is 108 damage) The only difference is 2 Damage more + chance of atk drop. Moonblast is resisted by only Fire/Poison types In this Meta so both are good options, it's also good against fighting types as well but Sky Attack already exists so no need. Basically if you can afford to Elite TM then Moonblast works better but otherwise no, Dragon pulse works better, it's more or less good against trying to one shot a Charizard at full HP if no shields are left if your running Dragon Pulse really.

Going to ruin my team here but Oranguru and Shadow Girafarig is insane. The only weakness really is bug types, a lot of people swap in ghost seeing the psychic but forget that the normal typing cancels out damage. NidoQ, Orangu, S.Giraf goes nuts

You can't hard swap into kingdra and opponent will safe swap into something else to counter then it it's done for you 💀 if not then it's also not good match up for kingdra either abamasnow snow will eat up almost 2 Pokemon you gotta pray opponent is weak in the back to altaria 🙏🏻 it will be team effort to defeat abamasnow 🗿

@@Serain_x it definitely needs to be played around. Abomasnow is walled by lantern unless it uses energy ball. You can either choose to sack the lantern or attempt to catch the energy ball on altaria. If you catch it on altaria it opens more options. If not you have to hope abomasnow is their only counter to dragons, which it typically is if it’s out on the lead.

Steel and Fairy and Dark are banned in this format, it's basically Gen 1 of pokemon. It's not 100% accurate but these videos do showcase Kingdra in most matchups as well, also Octazooka is an insanely powerful gamechanging move as it can literally debuff you 2 stages of attack at 50% which is very big to turn poor matchup into good matchups. Even if you get hard countered a single debuff by Octazooka can give your team a good comeback.
