I’m considering putting my blocks in the exact order of the book. I work at a library and I might use the quilt and book for a fun program or display.

It would have been fun to make each one of the colors a book spine. I think of ideas after I'm halfway through the quilt lol. As a side note, Yeah for Librarians, as a young kid I would take my recesses in the library and she was just so wonderful. I have great respect and love for your job :)

Here’s what I did……I went through the first 5 chapters of the book and pulled fabric from my stash that matched. I marked the colors that I didn’t have and then when I went to a larger city with several nice quilt shops I matched the colors I was missing and bought an 1/8 of a yard of that . I’ll do the next 5 chapters later this month when I go out of town. I couldn’t match the colors exactly even with thousands of bolts of fabric to choose from so I got stuff that was close . It is like a scavenger hunt !

I love the idea of floating stars. Because they are floating, it takes away the anxiety of loosing the points. I find them very relaxing, plus beautiful use of scraps.🙂

I have been reading through the comments and have seen a lot of people wanting to do the string bean block. My first thought when you showed it was it would make a boring quilt because my mind is not creative like yours. I pictured the setting just all lined up next to each other without the visual impact of a creative setting, or a creatively designed block. Now I would really enjoy seeing how you would design the quilt. The half square triangle quilt that you set in a rainbow is my very favorite quilt, and is always out for use. It simply makes me happy every time I see it. Thank you so much!

I love HSTs. Pat's way to do them is so easy. Instead of pinning, I put a light touch of glue stick at the corners when sewing on either side of the line on the diagonal. They are easy to square up with my SULLIVANS CUTTING EDGE SHARPENING EDGE RULER 6-1/2IN SQUARE. It's my favorite 6.5 inch ruler. I also have the larger sizes and their 6 x 24 inch ruler.

I joined a little late but wanted to share something i found when making the nine inch blocks. If you sew a second line on the flippy corners, you get a 3-1/2 hst with the cut aways which makes a 6-1/2 block. i have made 4 extra blocks so far.

I vote for Half-Log Cabin. String Bean is nice, but 30 blocks that size will be make a quilt that's much bigger than I can handle. The Half-Log Cabin blocks will be easy to adjust for size because if you want it smaller, you can just leave off a round or two to get 8.5" or 10.5" blocks.

I am having a great time doing the Secret Lives of Colour and I am getting as close as I can to the colors but I refuse to let it stress me. I'm not putting my blocks together as I will wait until I have more done just to see if I like the color arrangement or if I want to change it somewhat. It is for me and for fun so why not?
