It should be worth noting that an extinguisher with a "C" rating merely indicates the extinguishing agent will not conduct electricity; if the electrical source has been removed, the fire is treated as an A and/or B class depending on the fuel involved. Therefore a "C" class extinguisher will be always be multi class type such as ABC, BC, or AC. This is why a multi purpose dry chemical ABC type is the most popular and useful type extinguisher found in homes, businesses and industrial facilities across America. Class D or K extinguishers should also be present to supplement an ABC type for maximum safety in locations where such fires are likely to occur. This includes but is not limited to metal fabrication shops, laboratories and commercial/institutional kitchens.

It's not a triangle; it's the fire tetrahedron (Oxygen, Fuel, Heat, and a Chemical Reaction). Oxygen, Fuel, and Heat can exist together, but without a chemical reaction, there is no fire.
@mikeb97632 ай бұрын
The chemical reaction is a byproduct of having the right amount of the three elements. You can have heat but the temperature has to be enough to ignite the fumes released by whatever fuel it’s in contact with and so forth. So the fire triangle is correct too.
@justinoldham1212 ай бұрын
@@mikeb9763 The triangle is outdated... and incorrect because it doesn't have the chemical reaction in it... which is why it's outdated. For instance, the Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint (LVNR... commonly referred as the choke hold) is an effective restraining technique. However, as scientific studies have been performed and case studies of the technique have been conducted, it has been proven to be an incorrect restraint technique (it always was, but it previously didn't have any scientific evidence to show it was outdated and incorrect). So, now the LVNR (choke hold) is no longer taught to law enforcement officers because it is neither acceptable nor effective. The fire triangle is the same. Scientific studies have discovered a 4th element -the chemical reaction. Therefore, the model to teach about the elements of a fire and how to extinguish has changed to reflect the new information. Can the triangle still be used... Yes... but, like the LVNR, the triangle is outdated and incorrect. Teaching the triangle is an old teaching habit, and it belongs in the history archives. As new information is discovered, we must change the way we teach. The tetrahedron is the correct model moving forward.

This is just an impractical way of thinking, a chemical reaction will only occur once the tree elements of the triangle are there. That's like saying, that the fire itself is a part of the triangle.
@justinoldham121Ай бұрын
@@thefireman3476 NO. Not just having the 3 elements there, but the right amount of the elements in the right conditions to cause a chemical reaction. The fire isn't a part of the triangle, because only the 3 elements make up the triangle. Instead, the fire is a result of the 3 elements and the chemical reaction (all 4 elements) a part of the tetrahedron - which is why the triangle is an outdated model.

@@justinoldham121 I do understand that a fire is not a chemical reaction in and of itself, it is the product or symptom of the reaction. But the same way, a chemical reaction is the product/symptom of the elements of the fire triangle. What you say: "right amount of elements in the right conditions" is silly, because the elements are the conditions. Heat, the presence of oxygen and fuel are all physical conditions that must be met for there to be a chemical reaction, and when those conditions are met, there will ALWAYS be a chemical reaction. It's the same as dropping a pencil from your desk, it will ALWAYS fall to the ground. Why? Because the conditions are met: having potential energy, and meeting no resistance which causes its velocity to be 0, i.e your hand stopping it in place. It's the same with chemical reactions, it's a physical law, that chemical reactions will, and must happen, once the conditions are met. If not, we would not be able to replicate results in our laboratories. Therefor it is just not necessary to include the chemical reaction as a condition, because once the three other conditions are met, the "fourth" condition will always take place. I suppose, you could argue that you can somehow artificially force the chemical reaction without having the other conditions in place, but that also presupposes you can have a fire with no heat, no oxygen, no fuel, and you somehow force the fire to just exist. Which makes very little sense, and if it were to be possible, it would occur during very very rare instances, probably in a controlled lab environment. If I am wrong I will admit it, but you got to provide some instances in which it actually matters that the chemical reaction itself is viewed as a condition. I am not a chemist, I just had basic science in high school, and generally am interested in science. I may be wrong, but from what I can remember and think to myself, what you are saying doesn't make sense.

So a average household only needs 2 fire extinguishers: a ABC extinguisher, and a K extinguisher for kitchen. Remember to place the ABC as central as possible in your house, so it is always as available as possible.

Funny, this video, like all fire safety training I have ever seen, advises for people to get away from the fire when it starts. In the only real life work place fire I have experienced, all the guys in the lunch room ran towards the fire & put it out. Official advice was ignored, but the result was good.

I survived a fire at sea that resulted in a funeral pyre for the vessel. I was the deckboss. The dumbass stackmonkey (lowest rank on a crab boat below "masterbaitor") somehow got his hands on the biggest fire extinguisher. He said "how do you work this thing" right before dropping it into the burning engine room, sealing the fate of our workplace. Getting away from the fire was the last thing on anyone's mind until the last worthless 110 was expended and we all looked at each other. I realized someone had to answer the coast guard who was asking if we were wearing life jackets. Unspoken, the captain went below with the baitor. I picked up the mike and said "coast guard, this is the Ocean Gale. WE'RE ON FIRE." And dropped the mic and went on the bow to launch and take command of the liferaft. I cannot to this day see a fire without seeing aluminum fishing boat rigging sticking out of it.

Ive finely got my E training,Learning done with my work placament,Got to know our Fire Extinguisher's and for what fires they are for,Lets put it this way,Wont be wanting to use a water Fire Extinguisher on chip pan fire or Electricals going up in high flames,They be for paper and cardboard fire,electrical fire extinguisher be carbon dioxide or dry powder types or fires will spread billion times worse with water,never leave any flamable goods about as well,They also catch fire,Also not good for when any fires also might break out,Never leave windows or doors WIDE open,Never leave fire exits open as well,Wind and fire can also make the fire's spread more,We all got to know these things,Main thing is to do when fires ever break out is to escape out of the building as soon as possible to safety

Just sharing : powder extinguishers should not be used in escape routes. Still only sharing, in europe powder extinguishers are banned from being placed in public and common areas. they are only allowed in technical areas.
