I really loved Free Guy. When I left the theater I couldn't stop smilling. But I really think that it doesn't need a sequel.
@HazmatPyro3 жыл бұрын
Disney is interested in a sequel but I don't think it has actually been greenlit. I have no idea where to take the film in a sequel. Antwan traded free guy 1 in in exchange for the lawsuit against him being dropped and now Guy and the npcs are stuck in a virtual world seeming content with the state of it. Nobody can access the servers of free guy 1 because it's not publicly accessible due to the deal with Antwan so nobody can really ruin anything for guy. So we have a main character stuck in a perfect world with nobody to serve as an antagonist. Meanwhile Antwan is not going to make the same mistake again and will use a less complex ai that won't go sentient. (Correction: I looked up the plot and apparently Antwan launched a catastrophic flop and got arrested for theft so he's pretty much fucked. I can't see him working in the games industry anymore.) Millie and Keys are likely to live a happy life either as indie game devs or working at some other studio. So there's nowhere to take the film in a sequel that will add anything. There's nothing more to explore and any future events are likely going to be quite boring. In addition, I see little point in making a Free Guy 2 with different characters as we already have the first film and while it is a fun film idea, seeing the same film again with some variations is boring. A spin-off would be very different from Free Guy and then you're better off making a separate ip if you want to explore whatever plot you can come up with for Keys , Mouser , ans Millie. TL;DR: a sequel is pointless.

To be fair, the reason the game company in the movie was the portrayed as the big bad was not because they wanted to make a sequel, but because they had promised the sequel would be backwards-compatible with the original, when in reality they were planning on taking the original offline as soon as the sequel dropped and every player would have to start from scratch.

Another thing I noticed, the name of the company is Soonami which is a portmanteau of Konami and Bethesda Softworks. The "So" part is from Bethesda Softworks and "onami" comes from Konami. In addition, the name sounds vaguely similar to "tsunami", a type of natural disaster. Blizzard Entertainment is also named after a type of natural disaster. So three large gaming companies who are widely hated are featured in the title of a seemingly large villainous fictional game company, quite a cool detail.

Ryan Reynolds himself is a marketing cheat code.

Of all things to love about this movie, and there’s a lot of things, I absolutely loved how much shade it threw at Rockstar. Especially after the disaster that was the Definitive GTA Trilogy. There’s no denying they’re a scummy company, and this movie portrayed that perfectly, especially in the little details. Throwing Dude in to stop Guy when he was only about 60% done. Shutting out the entire player base to stop one bad apple from playing. The entire plot point where they’re just abandoning their old titles to make infinite money off the sequel through microtransactions. And how their intentionally rushed game was rightfully panned for being buggy and unplayable. At this point, it’s not even shade, it’s just blatant criticism. And even when they’re not bashing Rockstar, they’re being very faithful to the gaming industry. The little guys got their work stollen by the big studio with all the resources. Gamers are beginning to drift away from the big shooter sequels and take in the smaller, more thought out titles of indie devs. And honestly just the studio environment as a whole, what with all the allegations being thrown out at basically every other studio for having a toxic work environment. It’s all really faithful except the streamers, the world caring at all, and all the shenanigans they pull in the final act. But I’m willing to look past that because of how god dang fun this movie was.

Most of them could. I take that back. Almost all of them could. Provided if by "independent" you mean not with their parents specifically. They would still be stuck living with other people, in many cases worse people than their parents. They also wouldn't have time for silly things like "hobbies" or "fun." Like playing video games or making KZbin (or similar platform) videos. My favourite part about this movie is just how incredibly dated it will be in just a few years. I couldn't stop laughing at things that I knew almost no one was going to understand a decade from now. Just the fact that they brought in Pokimane, Jacksepticeye and many other media personalities is hilarious because they add nothing to the film except being a famous face. There were so many things it got wrong about programming, game design, gaming culture and Taika Waititis villain is probably one of the worst villains I've ever seen and I love all of it. 10/10 movie, might never watch it again but happy I did.

@gunnarsoderhielm34253 жыл бұрын
@@spacedoohicky Well other than the stereotypical developer/hacker actually goes into the game as a player character to change the code there's also such ridicolous things like actually hiding crucial and secret code in such a way that player characters can access it if they know where it is and the only defense is in game security npc's instead of just an invisible wall or something, the game developers have their own servers in the building instead of just renting servers from some other business like pretty much all big game developers do, an entire secret part of the map which is as big and detailed as the normal map is just hidden out of bounds, I mean christ imagine the space that would take up on players computers, and many other things like that that work better in movies but which are just ridicolous in real life. It's very stupid and I love it all.

The idea of having lightsabers and Captain America's shield and all that actually could've been another very clever commentary on the state of gaming; pointless franchise tie-ins that have nothing to do with each other, like sticking Thanos in Fortnite. Just include a couple sentences about it towards the beginning of the film and you have setup and payoff, rather than something that kind of takes you out of the movie.

@darkmyro3 жыл бұрын
I feel like that's really unfair and reductive. Guy doesn't do a lot of deadpool-esque jokes and Guy as a character is about as opposite as you can get from deadpool. Guy is innocent, naive, polite and wants to be the hero, while deadpool is mean, jaded, broken, and doesn't consider himself a hero, literally says that in the movie. I feel like every time Ryan Reynolds is in something people say something like " oh it's deadpool, but X". It's not a hot take anymore and at best it has maybe one or two jokes you could classify as deadpool jokes with this movie at the very least. I think this movie already getting a announced sequel is definitely a mistake since where do you go from this movie to another. Also i feel like the content creators they chose to show apart from maybe like one of them are quite toxic in some ways
@GBDupree3 жыл бұрын
The real life Content Creators were definitely the worst part, whereas the fake one, despite being a stereotype, wasn't that bad and can be enjoyed. The idea was doomed to fail anyways because those who are familiar with them would most certainly cringe because its obviously forced and fake because they know they wouldn't say or do that, or because it is *them* and they are already cringy and people avoid them anyways. Like I would never expect them to put in really good content creators that don't get enough love, but you know they'll put in the people who are super popular, despite how little people you would know in real life that can enjoy them without cringing. Like they have to be popular because young children aren't allowed to watch things with "bad words" in them, but are allowed to freely watch Twitch, so they get to giggle at the "silly person" yelling and swearing a lot, right? So its clearly a bunch of executives who don't know what most people will like, because not everyone will like the same stuff anyways, but pick whatever are the biggest names. Which, unlike some other media like films, KZbinrs/streamers/TikTok-ers (and also music industry """stars""") who are the biggest names in the industry are typically disliked by people who are fans of the genre and like quality, but are popular through other methods, typically people who are just getting into the medium and don't know who to pick and aren't too bothered by quality so take whoever paid for the best advertising. They think that by including these people we will go "Woah, they got him? I need to see this show now!", when the more likely reply would be "yeah, we all knew they were a sellout", or "well good for him, glad he got paid to do that, but I wasn't interested in the show". There's no winning here, but there is losing, both the studio wasting their money on something that won't gain them more, and the viewers who have suffer with seeing someone they already try to avoid despite KZbin's best efforts. Especially when so often these massive "stars" tend to end up revealed as terrible people in some way or another (which, to be fair just about no one is immune to that, but all the more reason not to play with fire). Like I'm pretty sure that the girl streamer (Forgot the name, started with an A?) got in trouble because she likes to poison and torture her cat for fun on streams, and then when people tried to stop her she got Twitch to defend her and remove the comments and then boost her content, which is why she suddenly got super popular. If that is her and not someone else, then that makes her involvement in the movie really bad, and rewatching will be rough if you even want to bother.
