Awesome. Thanks for watching! So glad that you showed her my video. I switched my aunt over to an Ooma a few years back. She was very hesitant. But now that she’s retired and have a limited source of income, she’s very appreciative of having a phone bill that’s only $5.85. Her regulatory fees are lower because she lives in NC. And I live in SC. The only caveat is that you must have stable internet service. Whenever my internet is out due to a really bad thunderstorm or if someone hits a power line - I just use my cell phone.

Trust me when I SAY - I’ve had my ooma for years and have not regretted it. It’s been one of my best purchases. So many times - cable companies will act like you are saving money by doing a bundle by getting phone service along with your cable but there are so many hidden fees. When I look at my ooma bill - you only see $0.00 plus the 911 regulatory and state/local fees. As long as your internet service/electricity is up - your home phone service is up. And when your power line is down - the calls just go to voicemail. And you can access those voicemails through their app. I can go on and on about how happy I’ve been with ooma. Thanks for watching my video! I’m always looking for ways to save money. 😉

Don, Ooma charges tax and do not inform me when they go up & down. In our area, those FCC fees, 911 & various Fed & St tax are about 9 bucks. I think Premier is better than Basic, but I use mine for a home office phone- but I am not on it all day. My Mobile APP is glitchy, but I live in a remote area. Best wishes.
@HandfordHacks2 жыл бұрын
@@nccrchurchunusual So true! There’s no way to get around FCC, regulatory and 911 fees. Those fees are not pushed down by any company, but by your county. I always compare my old home phone service, and my cable service home phone to Ooma. With the cable provider - they will charge a $10-20 equipment fee, regardless if you’ve had the equipment for 2 years or 10 years. And if you never had any issues with your equipment - then most people have overpaid the cost of just buying the equipment outright. The same holds true for cellular service and buying cell phones vs being in a contract and paying more on a phone plan.

Also, are the fees and taxes paid for ooma similar to the fees and taxes you would pay on a regular home phone such as via AT&t's home phone /voip. I believe with AT&t's home phone, we paid approximately $15 in fees and taxes per month, even though the line was technically a VoIP.

So many questions! My husband stays home and I need to be sure he has a landline incase we need to call 911
@HandfordHacks3 жыл бұрын
An ooma is based off your internet. So if the electricity goes out in your house - then all calls to the ooma will go to voicemail and you won’t be able to use your home phone. In those scenarios - I use my cell phone. So I just want to make sure that you are aware of any potential downtime with having an ooma. An ooma is very similar to a cable company offering phone service. It’s the same technology. Hope that helps with any additional questions you may have.

Yes, I am absolutely still happy with my Ooma. I’ve had it forever. I use to have the upgraded plan which consist of sending voicemails to emails and to ring calls directly to my cell. But after a while, it wasn’t worth it (for me) to pay the extra $5 - so I downgraded, especially once they rolled out the app for the phone. Looking at their plans now - multi ring is now $10. Occasionally- I do miss the upgraded plan. Check it out here. For $10 - it still is a phenomenal rate. www.ooma.com/home-phone/plans/

Here is the two plans they offer: www.ooma.com/home-phone/plans/ I don’t know if you are leasing the Ooma equipment. Yes. The quality is the same. The only caveat is that it’s based upon your internet. So if your internet service provider is working on the power lines or they are setting up google fiber in your area - then you could experience an internet outage. And if your internet is down, so is your home phone. In my video - I showed that the only cost is the taxes and regulatory fees. That’s still the same amount. Also, does it take a long while to Port your current number over to ooma if you want to keep your current number? Approximately how long does it take? Also, kind of wondering how ooma compares to straight talk's home plan.
@HandfordHacks2 жыл бұрын
The porting process can sometimes take longer or shorter. The recommended approach is to keep your current service until your number is fully ported over, which will have some overlap. When I ported my number and my aunt’s number - it took 30 days. And during those 30 days - we paid for our regular phone service until the number was completely ported over. Otherwise, you could lose your number if you don’t. Hope this helps!

@HandfordHacks Жыл бұрын
Great Question. You absolutely can port a landline number over. I’ve ported over a number for a family member. Depending on the provider - it can take a day to port over. I’ve read that some providers can take 2 days to port the number over. If you have call forwarding options, you can ask the provider if they will allow call forwarding during the porting process until it’s complete. Some providers will allow this. I hope this helps. When it comes to saving money - having an Ooma was a huge saving. Thanks for watching my video!

Geez! I'm not interested in ANYTHING except the ability to make and receive phone calls, period. I don't need a dashboard for that... or anything else. I don't have a cell phone and don't want one... just a landline with a price that is not criminal.
@HandfordHacks2 жыл бұрын
Ha! I love the dashboard and the mobile app. But, it’s certainly not a feature you have to use. For a $6 bill - it’s definitely the lowest option to having a home phone, but the caveat is that you need internet. But it’s still cheaper.

That’s correct. You must port your phone number to Ooma before you can get rid of your landline. Number porting costs a one-time fee of $39.99 per number you wish to port, and is available in most areas. For customers that upgrade to an annual subscription to Ooma Premier you can port one number absolutely free. Porting your number and purchasing the ooma equipment will still come out cheaper monthly than doing a home phone service plan bundle that’s normally offered through your cable subscription and cheaper than a local home phone company. I’ve tried those alternatives and the monthly costs is just better.
