Police, firefighters, health services are not for profit. The US spends 3x what Europe does on healthcare (from taxepayer money) and doesnt get it universal and has to pay for insurance ontop. Paying taxes sucks but do you know what sucks more? Coughing up 40k for a hospital stay. I personally don't mind paying more so people don't go broke from medical expenses. My dad is old, he fell wrong, went to the hospital and they detected brain damage. Multiple operations later and he is at almost 100%, in total we paid around 100 euros for it. I'm from England so have free healthcare, I think there should be a baseline level of care citizens are entitled to for free, but also higher levels of care that you can pay for. For example, there's a 2week wait to see a GP/Doctor for free? Okay, you can pay x to see one now. This would help reduce stress on the free system too as those with money can go a different route and not wait for the free care.
