Priscilla being left alone so frequently and for so long definitely contributed to the movie feeling slow. In contrast, scenes with Elvis were fast paced and exciting, but short lived. In a way, it allowed the audience a glimpse into how she felt living through that.

Sofia Coppola is so good at conveying loneliness and sadness, especially when it comes to young girls and women, her scenes without dialogue are always my favorite. Marie Antoinette is a masterpiece at that.

I wish everyone would read the book, I don’t read books regularly in fact haven’t picked up a physical book in 8 years until now. This book that the movie is based off of was so captivating I couldn’t put it down it was so so interesting!!! I HIGHLY SUGGEST READING “Elvis And Me”!!!!

Have y'all read her book??? Elvis would not fulfill her needs and she said she had a pretty high sex drive. I cant imagine how lonely and hard it was to watch the person you love cheat over and over all the while refusing to please you. The narcissistic manipulation that he did towards her was portrayed so well in the film.

elvis the human was very religious and wanted his home life to be traditional. while they were still intimate, he wanted to wait till marriage to consummate their love, which they did. elvis the rock star on the other hand couldn’t resist the temptations and be faithful to anyone but she had her affairs as well.
@ashleetrieu8320

@@larissalima7918I don’t know. I just can’t imagine that’s actually the case. I think he knew what he was doing, just trying to control every aspect of her life. Even sex. It would only happen when HE wanted it. Not her. Everything was to be on his terms. I don’t think he actually had some “morals” when it came to Priscilla. I feel like that’s giving him far too much benefit of the doubt. I think it was all intentional abuse and that he was just a piece of shit.

It's called "Madonna-Wh*re Complex". It is a theory by Freud, whose theories we wouldn't want to be right lmao but goddamn males prove it right every day. They separate all women into two categories: one woman that they respect because they don't have sex with her and all the other women who they don't respect because they have sex with them. And then when it comes to being intimate with the woman they respect they lose their minds because they can't wrap their heads around their untainted Madonna doing something that all those other wh*res do. So that's why they leave their wives and girlfriends to be "untainted" and go to other women to cheat on them, just like Elvis did here. Priscilla was his Madonna, and all of those women were wh*ores. And to be some male's Madonna isn't flattering at all, because they don't see you as a human being, they are tearing you to pieces in order to strip you away from your humanity and sexuality in order for you to remain pure. Just another of many examples of males being fcking weird about how they perceive female sexuality and women in general lmao

@sweetembrace6706
@sweetembrace6706 Жыл бұрын
this has nothing to do with femininity. Women are not oppressed on the basis of their presentation. Misogyny and patriarchy don't stop at long hair and dresses. If you think women with short hair that wear pants suddenly are not affected by men or a global patriarchy, you are not very bright. It is not progressive to ignore that the basis of women's oppression has nothing to do with liking pink and everything to do with being women, regardless of how masculine or feminine we are.

The wiki page defines it like this: "this psychological complex is said to develop in men who see women as either saintly Madonnas or debased prostitutes. Men with this behavioral complex desire a sexual partner who has been degraded (the whore) while they cannot desire the respected partner (the Madonna)." edit: i forgot the most important part... little facts i love about jacob elordi and his role as elvis in priscilla: 1. he did no serious prep on elvis lore 2. his only source of elvis lore prior to being cast in the movie was stitch in lilo & stitch 3. he is australian and he still did a better job than austin...

I hope you'll spend some time reading the real history of Elvis and Priscilla, because this deep dive comes up really short of reality. Try Peter Guralnick's definitive biography, Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love. Try reading Priscilla's book, too, because this movie is not the same portrayal.

This reminds me of the time i was in the psychward and there was this young kid, about 12 who was obsessed with elvis presley and the whole week and a half i was there he talked about him and sang his songs to me. That kid made me so sad, he was such a melancholy person. He told me his story about why he loved elvis so much and why he was there. Shit broke me, i forgot about that boy. I hope hes well.

On Elvis continually rejecting Priscilla sexually & the violence where he threw things at her etc: Its not complex. It’s control/abuse tactics, my exes did this to me. He had complete control over her, and any way she showed some sort of power, he took the power away. And the violence is very much controlled and on purpose as well. They use the amount of violence they feel is necessary to regain control of their partners
@SpockNRoll

@@SpockNRoll I learned that in therapy, it’s such a painful, confusing realization. We are taught to give people the benefit of the doubt, rationalize their behavior & blame ourselves for being treated horribly. My brain still can’t wrap around the fact that my ex punching holes in walls & throwing shit at me was very much a controlled display of violence in order to “keep me in line”. Even if an abuser never escalates to physically harming their partner, it’s still domestic violence.

The phenomenon with men selectively differentiating women as “relationship worthy” or a just a “body” has always fascinated me. I’ve watched a few videos on the subject and what struck me was they describe these women they see as so relationship worthy so that they can’t really see them sexually. I’ve seen some say “I couldn’t treat her like that, I wouldn’t want my daughter having sex with a guy like me.” So basically, when some men see women as real people and even on some familial level they lose that sexual interest. It’s just very odd and fascinating to me. This is just a very specific example and I can’t even find the tiktok podcast interview that I watched where they addressed this anymore.

At first I was annoyed that they didn’t expand on Pricilla’s personal life and her family more, because there’s a lot there. But I realized they were going for a capsule approach. They were showing you the period of time when Elvis entered her life to when she left, only focusing on their relationship and I think it works. They kept the settings minimal, with a majority of the movie taking place in Graceland which really puts you in there with Pricilla, feeling her same feelings of entrapment and loneliness. It was so good.
