In my area (Portsmouth) UK, the normal household waste is collected and taken to an incinerator where it is burnt to produce electricity, the recycling (including small electrical items) is taken to a recovery and sorting facility where it is separated and sold off. We have 'bottle banks' for empty glass bottles and jars. The government are talking about starting a deposit system for plastic bottles to try and reduce the amount of plastic waste going into the sea and rivers.

We need to be more like that here in the US. I'm not a fan of perfectly good reusable items being buried in our landfills forever.

First half of 2018 was very good. Last half has been a bummer. Tire blowout and damage cost time and money. Still not finished with all the repairs. Now my water pump and serpentine belt went bad and repairs under way again. That and other problems make this half of 2018 not so good. Looking forward to getting back on track and moving on to better activities. Thankful for good friends who give me loving support Like watching you and a couple others do the scraping and picking as I did a little of that when I was in the antiques business years ago. Look into reselling as well as scraping! Good luck!

Here we have 2 different bins. Recycle and kitchen waste that gets composted. Regular garbage gets put out in your own can or bags. The recycle one now often goes into land fill because they are having trouble with finding buyers. I live in Canada Montreal. Yes we have deposits on cans and return them to the store.I live close to a bus stop and every morning someone leaves a can or2 there. I pick them up most days and when I have a bag full return them. Saved up for my lap top like that with any gift money. Took a while but I got it. Soon we will have the same on wine bottles and a few other things. Great find from Rick. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤

Those girls at the scrap yard are so sweet. I hauled scrap for three years in a 18 wheeler for a company in south Tennessee and north Mississippi. They had three yards and a huge shredding machine in Corinth Ms. All of the employees were very good at their jobs. Prices were a lot higher 5 years ago and there were a lot of people who made a pretty good living. Love your videos. Wish we could all do more about what goes into the landfills, there is just so much waste. I have a washing 2 vacuums carpet cleaner and a couple of TVs I am going to try to dismantle. May even try putting an ad on Letgo maybe to pick up metal. Am retired and bored out of my skull. Watch you Taco Stacks and Scrapvulture. Just started w arching Shane Man TV. Really respect what all of you do, wish every one not necessarily scrapped for a living, but maybe tried to take care of our world a little better. Love to all scrappersand scrapper supporters and commenters. Some of these commenters are really smart and have good hearts.

About the deposit thing: I life in germany and we pay 25 Cents extra on top of every glass/plastic bottle or any aluminuim can (Glass bottles only 15 Cents). You can hand this bottles and cans in at every store where they sell bottles and cans. They have to take it back and give you the the money. Picking it out of private dumpsters is illegal because dumpster diving is forbidden here. But you are allowed to pick stuff out of public dumpsters (at trainstations etc). If you throw it into your garbage it get's recycled anyway because we have to seperate our trash at home and throw it into 3 (In some areas even 4) different dumpsters. It's stupid to throw cans and bottles into the trash, you loose so much money (4 Cans = 1€ =1,17$) but many people do it because they are lazy. Awesome videos, awesome attitude! Please excuse any writing mistakes, working on my english :)

Yes, our garbage truck, picks up both my bagged trash, then my recycle bin, then tosses it in the same area of the truck. When I called the recycle office, I asked, they told me it's sorted at the dump site. I have taken things to the dump myself, there isn't any separating going on out there...I take the time, as we were all instructed when our recycle program began, to wash out my jars, cans etc. before putting them in the recycle bin. So I feel ripped off, as this causes me to use more water, to wash detergent bottles clean, than to just toss. I live in Texas.

My 2018 is finally getting better. I turned 59 in December. February 23 I went to the ER because I could not stop throwing up. They did a Cat scan and thought I had a bowel obstruction . All they would give me was ice chips. On March 14 they finally went in through my belly button and found that my small intestine was twisted and wrapped around a hernia that I did not know I had. Made it through the operation fine. They gave me Lovenox too soon and I was rushed to ICU and they had to give me 4 units of blood. Thank god for many people praying for me that I am here today. I am living proof that prayer works . How is your Robert Plant doing ? Fine I hope. Keep doing great videos :)

I'm in Iowa and have can & bottle deposit. If you want the deposit back then you need t take it to the store and get the money. I don't care about the deposit and give the cans & bottles to a local scout troop. We have recycling and a different truck comes for it, but it is a pain in the but to put it out to the curb. One week is metal and glass and the next week is paper and plastic. I just take it to the recycling drop off at the store when I have a load.
@MrCjon716 жыл бұрын
Waste Pro in Summerville, SC was doing exactly that. They provided us with two cans and were collecting them with a single truck. It, along with terrible service is the reason they lost the contract with the town. Our trash is now serviced by Carolina recycling. They only recycle paper and cardboard, which is a bit disappointing though.
@ScrapPalletMan6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris. Your input is valuable because I was wondering if waste companies were actually doing that.
@davidkirkman22236 жыл бұрын
As for the recyclables issue. Some places say you can't take anything out of the recyclables box but it still goes on, now yes some manuciplaties do have stuff going to landfills because people don't clean properly or it has to much contamination attached to it or stuff in not recyclable but was put in recycle boxes and was missed by collector. From eastern Ontario in Napanee paul

A homeowner left six central heating radiators for me today... 366 Lbs of steel ! Took it all in on my scooter in four runs to the scrapyard for a total of 40 Eurobucks!!!

Yep. Fortunately, the source was just a 10 min ride from the scrapyard. Easy money! Went back today and they had put aside a lot of copper, brass and a big chunk of lead pipe. All for the dream!!!

That would be awesome if you could pull up to the cans and say "get in my truck" and all metal and cords just jumped up and got in your truck. I lived in San Jose calif for many yrs a friends husband work at the dump and the recycled was put on a conveyer belt and sorted by hand

In order to recycle plastics and paper in my area you have to pay for a private company to pick up your stuff. We don't even have the option for recycle bin you just put it in a pile on your curb if you pay for the service
@ScrapPalletMan6 жыл бұрын
wow... not even an option to recycle without personally paying

Scrap & Pallet Man nope besides a drop box that only takes certain things. it's 3 dollars a bag to recycle plastics. While they are decent size bags made of recycled plastics it still seems ridiculous that we have to pay them to make money off us.
