It might be a good idea to insulate the underside of the engine cover with foil covered insulation to reduce the amount of heat entering the RV and also to lower odds of it catching on fire from an engine malfunction. I've never seen a wooden engine cover on any vehicle.

Having grown up with VW busses I saw that and immediately had a sense memory of heat. Nice in an Ohio winter, nasty on a summer road trip. The engine cover on those VE’s was made of metal and right between the front seats. Actually, closer than in this big RV.

My dad gutted an old school bus and made it into a motor home. He made 2 sets of bunkbeds in the back, added a kitchen (table folded into a bed), a bathroom, and a broom closet. The front part of the bus had a couch that folded down into a bed and he made a corner stand for a TV. My mom made curtains, including one to go across the front of the bus (when parked). We used it several times to go camping, visiting or family reunions. My dad, uncles and grandpa often used it for hunting. Dad also used it when they went up to the Barrie Flea Market, which was a week long event. Lots of fun.

This won't likely matter since you are flipping, but if you cover a wooden box in the future you could put a layer of batting on first before the vinyl or fabric. It doesn't really add padding, but it has a little give that might keep the outer layer from developing a hole. You would also do this with a foam cushion for a chair or whatnot. This series has been a lot of fun - you never know exactly what you might see here! :)

We have 15 year old twins, Boy & Girl and thank god they helps a lot around the house. I love teaching them how to fix and repair things. I would love to pick up an old fixer car for them to learn repairs on and get running. My father did that with me, I repaired and got running a old 68 Mustang that was for me when I turned 16 and I took my behind the wheel test at DMV with it. I was pretty frickin' proud of my old Mustang and my Dad helping me fix it up. I will always hold this memory close to my heart. Kinda' hope the same thing for my twins.🥰

Cinderfella is a real movie it features Jerry Lewis as Cinderfella. Hilarious and worth the watch should you and Steven get a chance. Older movie however. A hazmat suit would be best for Mice yecks for sure. The Chrome is mint on RV and the interior is looking fly! Later! 😊

Cinderfella a 11:40 movie from 1960 starring Jerry Lewis. Since the engine hatch does not provide an airtight seal, don't forget to add a carbon monoxide detector for driving. You will need one anyway for when you use the kitchen appliances and heating system.
@wallypalmer4704 Жыл бұрын
You did a great job on the engine cover! It fits right in with the 70's vibe. I have pretty much zero handyman skills, so if I had attempted to do that upholstery job, it would look like a toddler did it. This motorhome reno is going to be a GREAT series! Looking forward to the next episode!

Take cheap plastic containers, poke some holes in the top. Put moth balls in the containers and place them around inside the motor home. And when your working on it just put a container by every wheel or in under belly compartments. You'll never have mice.

Could I make a suggestion? It's great that you use a disinfectant spray. Since you have allergies, try liberally sprinkling bicarbonate of soda everywhere before doing anything. Not in the motor of course It's a wonderful, gentle chemical that has so much going for it. That includes, disinfectant, cleanser, air purifier and sanitizer.

Great progress Alexander. Surprisingly good condition on the cushions. Hope you don't paint too much of the paneling and cabinets. All that wood finish is very iconic for the time period . Access to the driver's seat and the shotgun seat seem rather awkward. Keep up the good work!😎

Just a thought but the shag rug on the engine "dog house" probably helped muffle the engine noise and the vinyl you replaced it with won't be as effective. I suggest adding Reflectix material on the inside of it to increase the insulation value and reduce sound and heat.
