I'm a Data Scientist from way back. I was a Statistics TA in grad school and have coded in SAS and Sql since the late 90s. That said when I wanted to learn the new skills I went to EDx and started the program you reviewed. So far it has been a high quality course. I've been impressed.

Hi Quynh, thanks for sharing your journey. I would recommend to learn as you work. You are in a similar position as I was when starting to learn data science. At the time, I had to pick up data science (back at the time, in 2004 it was called data mining) by self-teaching myself. I used the biology problems to serve as practice whereby I would find solutions from books, stackoverflow and tutorial resources online and offline. By solving each problem successfully I started to gain confidence. Thus, I think you can try to see which tasks at work could serve as the problem for which you can tackle and apply newly learned concepts. I share more advices on getting started in data science in my Medium article, towardsdatascience.com/10-things-i-wish-i-knew-about-learning-data-science-7a30bfb91759

@DataProfessor4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yousef, both are synonyms with the former ( 'data science' ) encompassing a much broader term that takes into consideration other facets (data visualization, data wrangling, model deployment, etc.) that complement the 'data analysis' component which is at the core of data science. To get started, I would recommend to choose a programming language (R or Python, both are good, choose 1 and proceed to using it to do some projects). Here are some videos I recommend. 🔶CONCEPTS AND ADVICE ✅What programming language to learn for Data Science?
