Good day from Thailand! As the majority of users, i wan to thank you for your updates. Not sure how SG bankruptcy will impact the world of philately though.

Thank you, Sylvaine. In the short-term, at least (by which, I mean 2 or 3 years), I don't think collectors will see any impact. Longer term, we might see changes, as Phoenix appraises the results of their efforts. One thing I could envision happening is the stamp business and catalogue business being separated - if not owned by different companies, at least having the catalogue a division completely independant from SG Stamps. Ii think it is a conflict of interest for a stamp dealer to also publish a catalogue that supposedly reflects market values. Everyone knows they don't. The catalogues are SG's sales price list and it is in their interest to keep catalogue values as high as possible.

Hi Ted! Excellent, informative video! I didn't know Stanley Gibbons have financial troubles and went into administration. Maybe I am wrong, but I find it very troublesome and sad when a companies pure motivation and aim is "to make money". I think it erodes or totally obliterate goodwill and service towards the hobby, e.g. philately and philatelists, and anything with substance but no financial gain, is thrown out of the window. Thanks also for all the information available on your forum!!!! You are really contributing towards and have a huge positive influence on philately!!!!

Very informative, thanks for sharing. I didn´t know that SG got in serious trouble. We also lost a lot of stamps companies over here during the past two decades. The internet is far too competitive... 😬 Greets from GER, U.

Thank you. Yes, it seems to me stamp businesses are very slow to adapt to changing times.

Hi Ted I enjoy the videos. I live in Circleville Ohio and im a WW collector. Ive been collecting since 4 years old and about to turn 40. I have a United States collection 85% complete to early 90s mounted in albums but my many many thousands of WW are just in glassines and a cpl old scott international, mostly not catalogued. I feel young for the hobby and have no friends or anyone to help me figure out the best way to move forward i want to spend the rest of my life building, cataloguing and displaying a great WW collection. Do you have any advice or know anyone near central Ohio (im 25 min south of Columbus) that I could reach out to so I can get more involved with philately? Im looking for someone to help guide me to the next level to become an advanced phitaliest. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

The only person I know in Ohio lives in Stow, about 2 1/2 hours drive from you. He's a dealer on HipStamp and you could contact him through the question button on any of his stamp listings. www.hipstamp.com/store/noernberg-stamps Tell him Ted Tyszka (or user name, youpiao) sent you. I would also direct you to my own stamp forum, where there's a great bunch of people eager to help out anyone with questions. tedtalksstamps.proboards.com/threads/recent

Too often , private funds buy these types of companys and look to make a quick buck, but ultimately they load them with debt and then they collapse.
@tedtalksstamps10 ай бұрын
Phoenix doesn't seem to be that type of fund, to me. I believe they might just be able to turn things around.
@roger09299 ай бұрын
@@tedtalksstamps Maybe I misunderstood your explanation but it sure sounded like the majority stockholder grabbed all outstanding shares for pence on the pound and then turned around and "sold" it to themselves. Seems to be a version of the Sears "bankruptcy" where the CEO sold the profitable parts of the business to companies he had an interest in. Of course, all of this is possible as the UK enables these con schemes by not enacting laws to prevent them. The majority of philatelic scams in the past 50-60 years have all come out of the UK including several by Stanley Gibbons.
