I found that using blue painters tape on the wood, then gluing your pattern down using your preffered method that when your done cutting it out the blue tape peels right off with little to no residue left so minimal sanding is needed

I've tried all kinds of glues to paste patterns and they work great until you need them to come off. I've messed up a few really nice pieces like this. Now I put painter's tape over the wood and glue the pattern on that instead of bare wood. Makes things a whole lot easier.

I've seen peel and stick shelf contact paper used as well and it is much cheaper than the blue painters tape.

I find images in a similar way but I tend to look for "outline" to cut down on wasting all that ink.
