Great old sled. I had a 1979 TXL 340 and a 1979 250 TX free air. Those were great machines and I miss them. So simple to work on and a blast to drive.

Particularly the exhaust helps with those twin strokers. Needs that back burn to run properly. Thing wasn't even really out of tune. Amazing.

I used to have a 1979 ski doo Blizzard 9500 plus, 440 liquid cooled, with twin 38 mm mikuni carburetors, that were jetted out to the max, and dual expansion pipe's on it, and that thing would do about 80 mph, it also was equipped from bombardier, with a rotary valve, instead of conventional reed valve's, I bet that sled you got there, that polaris would probably do about 65-70 the way you've got it set up right now, and it wouldn't be hard to squeeze more out of it with some Mods.

Yup so did I, my dad bought it as a basket case for 100 bucks, I think I was 13 at the time. Ran it the whole season and tore the track out if it. Tried to "patch it together" but that didn't work all that well. It sat for awhile and then sold it for parts. Next sled was a 87 Indy Trail.

Good job !!! So far after watching vids from different people who are planning on going to this "$500 Sled" weekend you're got the best running sled out of all of them ---- It's an old sled but with 440cc, dual carbs, it should be decently fast --- I'm looking forward to the Big Event

I almost thought this was my old sled! I had the same exact one like 7 years ago. Mine ran, was pretty dang fast for how old it was, brakes didn't work. I bought mine with a titled tilt trailer for 350 bucks on Craigslist. Ended up selling the sled for 450 after I got it running and rode it a few times, fixed up and kept the trailer for several more years and sold it for 350. Man I love wheelin and dealn old cool stuff.

Watching video. Big Junkyard Digs watcher, it’s obvious on the vids y’all are good friends , and I appreciate the brotherhood. Noticed your lab has a significant lameness in his left rear…..it looks like a lab with an ACL injury. The most common Otho injury in labs. I’m from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with family roots in the Ames area and this is the most common injury I repair in dogs. Oh , yeah, Im a vet. Get him looked at, if you haven’t already. I have a Yamaha GP338 I got for free from a friend's barn, after the people renting their farm abandoned it there. Complete, but very, very, very rough. Also caked with pigeon poop. Engine was/is junk, track rotten/worn to nubs, suspension worn/rusted/seized, mouse-eaten seat, broken-up hood where the hinges mounted... It's a heap! But it's MY heap! Body is probably the best part, although the skies/steering and fuel-tank are also salvageable, but the underside/pan under the engine is both caved in and badly rusted/rotten. Very much a long-term/someday project. Your basket-case is a lot better-off, and in better hands! XD Looks like your dog's limp was taken care of or healed up.
